This paper proposes a novel spectral hole substitution technique for low bit-rate audio coding. The spectral holes frequently occurring in relatively weak energy bands due to zero bit quantization result in severe quality degradation, especially for harmonic signals such as speech vowels. The enhanced aacPlus (EAAC) audio codec artificially adjusts the minimum signal-to-mask ratio (SMR) to reduce the number of spectral holes, but it still produces noisy sound. The proposed method selectively predicts the spectral shapes of hole bands using either intra-band correlation, i.e. harmonically related coefficients nearby or inter-band correlation, i.e. previous frames. For the bands that have low prediction gain, only the energy term is quantized and spectral shapes are replaced by pseudo random values in the decoding stage. To minimize perceptual distortion caused by spectral mismatching, the criterion of the just noticeable level difference (JNLD) and spectral similarity between original and predicted shapes are adopted for quantizing the energy term. Simulation results show that the proposed method implemented into the EAAC baseline coder significantly improves speech quality at low bit-rates while keeping equivalent quality for mixed and music contents.
We examined some problems in speaker identification procedures: transformation of acoustic parameters into auditory scales, invalid measurement values, and comparability of spectral energy values across the frequency range. To resolve those problems, we analyzed the acoustic spectral energy of three Korean numbers produced by ten female students from narrow-band spectrograms at 19 proportional time points of each voiced segment. Then, cells of the first five spectral matrices were averaged to form a matrix model for each speaker. The correlation coefficients and sum of the absolute amplitude difference in each pair of the spectral models of the ten subjects were obtained. Also, some individual matrix models were compared to those of the same subject or the other subject with a similar spectral model. Results showed that in numbers '2' and '9' subjects could not be clearly distinguished from the others but in number '4' it shed some possibility of setting threshold values for speaker identification if we employed the coefficients and the sum of absolute difference. Further studies would be desirable on various combinations of the range of long-term average spectra and the degree of signal pre-emphasis.

This paper deals with accuracy of accumulated fatigue damage estimation using stochastic fatigue analysis method based on Rayleigh PDF. From full scale measurement data on an 8100TEU container vessel, zero-order spectral moments for wave- and vibration-induced energy spectral densities are determined on the probability level of 99%. 80 simulation cases in total are prepared according to the variation of ratio of zero-order spectral moments and center frequency of vibration ESD. By using inverse Fourier transformation and rainflow cycle counting for the combined ESD of wave and vibration, exact fatigue damages are derived. Fatigue damages in frequency domain based on Rayleigh PDF show large conservativeness compared to exact fatigue damages in times domain. The main cause of the excessive conservativeness is analyzed by two aspects: ratio of zero crossing and peak frequencies and ratio of initial zero order spectral moments and zero order spectral moments from rainflow stress range distributions. Finally, a guideline of applicability of Rayleigh PDF is proposed for wide band processes.
The accuracy of classifying pixels in HIRIS images is usually degraded by noisy bands since noisy bands may deform the typical shape of spectral reflectance. Proposed in this paper is a statistical method for noisy band removal which mainly makes use of the correlation coefficients between bands. Considering each band as a random variable, the correlation coefficient measures the strength and direction of a linear relationship between two random variables. While the correlation between two signal bands is high, existence of a noisy band will produce a low correlation due to ill-correlativeness and undirectedness. The application of the correlation coefficient as a measure for detecting noisy bands is under a two-pass screening scheme. This method is independent of the prior knowledge of the sensor or the cause resulted in the noise. The classification in this experiment uses the unsupervised k-nearest neighbor algorithm in accordance with the well-accepted Euclidean distance measure and the spectral angle mapper measure. This paper also proposes a hierarchical combination of these measures for spectral matching. Finally, a separability assessment based on the between-class and within-class scatter matrices is followed to evaluate the performance.

Because of muscle fatigue, motor unit recruitment and firing rates decrease and EMG power spectrum shifts toward lower frequencies as spectral compression which represented by a falling shift in the median frequency. However, changes of this frequency shows relatively less than those of the magnitudes of the low frequency band. This paper aims to examine the moderate ranges of the frequency bands in the existed ones as spectral fatigue indices of biceps femoris muscle. Twelve subjects participate in this experiment, and EMG signals are measured from these muscles during treadmill walking on the speed of 4.5 km/h. ANOVA analysis is used to compare changes of the low and high frequency band with reference to those of median frequency. Experimental results demonstrate that the low frequency band 25-82 Hz and the high frequency band 142-300 Hz could be appropriate for spectral fatigue indices of biceps femoris muscles.
Suspended Solids (SS) generated in rivers are mainly introduced from non-point pollutants or appear naturally in the water body, and are an important water quality factor that may cause long-term water pollution by being deposited. However, the conventional method of measuring the concentration of suspended solids is labor-intensive, and it is difficult to obtain a vast amount of data via point measurement. Therefore, in this study, a model for measuring the concentration of suspended solids based on remote sensing in the Nakdong River was developed using Sentinel-2 data that provides high-resolution multi-spectral satellite images. The proposed model considers the spectral bands and band ratios of various wavelength bands using a machine learning model, Support Vector Regression (SVR), to overcome the limitation of the existing remote sensing-based regression equations. The optimal combination of variables was derived using the Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE) and weight coefficients for each variable of SVR. The results show that the 705nm band belonging to the red-edge wavelength band was estimated as the most important spectral band, and the proposed SVR model produced the most accurate measurement compared with the previous regression equations. By using the RFE, the SVR model developed in this study reduces the variable dependence compared to the existing regression equations based on the single spectral band or band ratio and provides more accurate prediction of spatial distribution of suspended solids concentration.
The statatistical characteristics and spectra of sea waves at Mookho were analysed by several statistical methods. As the results, the following conclusions are obtained: 1. Values of surface elevation of sea wave are better fitted to Gram Charlier distribution than Gaussian distribution. This proves that sea waves have not only characters of irregularity but also non-linearity. 2. Distribution of maxima of surface elevation practically follows the distribution of Cartwright and Longuet-Higgins, also spectral width parameter is found to be increased with the increase of root mean square of surface elevation. 3. Sea wave may have spectrum of broad frequency band, however distributions of wave heights and periods follow the Rayleigh distribution which is derived from the assumption of narrow frequency band. 4. Ratios among mean wave heights from observed data show good agreements with theoretical values from Rayleigh distribution. 5. Spectral density and spectral width parameter increase with increase of wind velocity. And wave period at optimum band gas higher value than significant wave period by about 10 percent.

This paper proposes a new algorithm classifing same hues in order toe estimate the spectral reflectance of object from 3 band color image information. To estimate the spectral reflectance of object, the conventional estimation methods are required of 5 or 9 band digital color values. The 5 or 9 band image acquisition systems are required of 5 or 3 times same work for color image acquisition process. To solve the above problems, we propose a new method that can be estimated spectra reflectance estimation of object. The proposed method is to classify same hues corresponding a color stimulus, by using hue angle and chroma vector of a color stimulus. The classified same hues are used as the population corresponding a color stimulus. The range of same hue is estimated by the cumulative proportional ration according to the number of basis function.

Recently the various applications and spectral indices development of airborne hyperspectral imagery(A-HSI) has been increased. Especially the vegetation indices (VIs) were used to verify stress and vigor of vegetation. The VIs needs two or more spectral bands selectively to calculate as NIR(near infrared) and red wavelength. The A-HIS has specific band characteristics as narrow, continues and many. The A-HIS has narrow, continues and many specific band characteristics. That could be make it confuse which of bands could be explained for appropriate vegetation characteristics. If the A-HIS bands is not the same the wavelength with VIs' development band setting, then it need a selection adequate for spectral characteristics of target vegetation. Therefore we set 4 substitute bands for NIR and red wavelength respectively and calculated two VIs combined with substitute bands such as NDVI(normalized difference vegetation index) and MSRI(modified simple ratio index). To consider the variation of each VIs, we adapted the image differencing method of change detection technique. Also, we used spectral derivative to identify appropriate bands for spectral characteristics of digital forest cover type map. The result of adequate bands for two VIs selected red #3 as 680.2nm and NIR #2 as 801.7nm. This wavelength was good for any forest type in low variations.
For efficient spectral utilization of satellite channels, a shared band transmission technique is introduced in this paper. A satellite transmits multiple received signals from a gateway and terminal in the common frequency band by superimposing the signals. To improve the power efficiency as well as the spectral efficiency, a travelling wave tube amplifier in the satellite should operate near the saturation level. This causes a nonlinear distortion of the superimposed transmit signal. Without mitigating this nonlinear effect, the self-interference cannot be properly cancelled and the desired signal cannot be demodulated. Therefore, an adaptive compensation scheme for nonlinearity is herein proposed with the proper operation scenario. It is shown through simulations that the proposed shared band transmission approach with nonlinear compensation and self-interference cancellation can achieve an acceptable system performance in nonlinear satellite channels.
