To obtain a lower story height with a long span and better fire resistance, a new composite floor system using GFRP (glass-fiber-reinforced plastics) was proposed. This floor system consists of asymmetric steel with a web opening, a hollow core ball, concrete, and GFRP. To evaluate the flexural performance of the new composite floor system, an experiment was conducted. The test parameters were the presence of GFRP, the void ratio in relation to the hollow core balls, and the web opening. The test results showed that the resistance and stiffness of the specimen with GFRP were 10% higher than those of the reference specimen, and that fully composite action was accomplished up to the yielding point. After the attainment of the yield strength, the ductility of the specimen was reduced due to the stress concentration around the web openings. The slip between the concrete and steel beam, however, was small. Thus, in the design of the proposed new floor systems, it is desirable that the calculated resistance be reduced by 15%, for safety.
In this research stress-strain behavior of composite geocell-soil systems under triaxial condition and the influence of strength due to the presence of geocell were studied. For the research a series of triaxial tests were carried out on sand specimens confined by flexible-walled single rubber cell. The diameter of all rubber cells placed at the center of the soil sample were 50 mm. Three rubber sizes, i.e. 35, 50 and 70 mm height, were applied to the soil specimen and the size of soil specimen was 50 mm in diameter and 100 mm in height. Three different densities of soil were used for the tests. In general, it was observed that the sand specimen develops an apparent cohesion due to the confinement by the geocell. The magnitude of this cohesion seemed to be dependent to the properties of the geocell material. The test results have shown that the geocell material for this research not only develops the apparent cohesion but also increases the angle of friction whereas geosynthetic material in the references showed only the increase of apparent cohesion. From the application of geocell-soil composites to the hyperbolic model, it was recognized that the determination of the peak strength influences the behavior of the geocell-soil composites.
Side friction is often neglected in the analysis of the results of a consolidation test when the specimen has a high ratio of diameter to height. As the height of a specimen increases, however, side friction becomes important. This paper presents an investigation of the effect of side friction on consolidation test results for normally consolidated kaolinite slurry. Consolidation tests were performed to obtain settlement, pore pressure, compressibility, and hydraulic conductivity of kaolinite slurry. The compressibility relationship is corrected for side friction using a modified form of Taylor (1942) analytical solution. Numerical simulations using the CS2 piecewise-linear model are compared with settlement and excess pore pressure measurements. Experimental results show improved agreement with a modified CS2 model in which the effect of side friction is considered. The numerical and experimental results indicate that the side friction is an important factor affecting the rate of consolidation as well as the compressibility relationship for the specimen.

This study has attempted to suggest a proper reinforcement method by strengthening unbonded post -tensioning through height of an anchorage hole, form of a saddle, and loading time point as parameters and evaluating the reinforcement method through a bending experiment. The result of this experiment indicated effects of reinforcement since the maximum strength ratio(the ratio of an experimental value to theoretical value) of SC composite beams before prestressed was 0.97 and after prestress were 1.00~1.21. As a result of analysis on displacement and strain, irrespective of height of an anchorage hole and loading time point, the D120-series specimen where an anchorage hole was installed on the neutral axis after reinforcement showed that its deflection continuously increased without sudden load reduction after maximum load and it stably behaved with relatively low strain of each part. In terms of reinforcement effects, the maximum strength of SCR-UD120 specimen prestressed after pre-loading was increased 1.72 times comparing to SC composite beams so SCR-UD120 specimen prestressed after pre-loading was shown to be the best.
Raining method has been widely used for preparing sand specimen because of its ability to reconstitute the homogeneous specimen with desired relative density and its reliability established by the numerous experiments on diverse influential factors. In conventional raining methods, adjustment of relative density is achieved by controlling the shutter porosity and the whole system is required to be re-adjusted to achieve the target relative density when the granular characteristics are changed. It is also observed from conventional methods that certain degrees of spatial variation in density exist and the limited range of relative density is reproduced. In this paper, raining system with porous plate is proposed. It is shown that the wide range of relative density can be achieved by controlling failing height only. This enhanced system is able to obviate the subtle control of shutter porosity and minimize the effect of falling distance, which in turn ensures the homogeneity of the specimen, especially for low relative density.
In this paper, wavy square absorbers were experimentally and numerically investigated. Numerical simulations were performed with LS-Dyna software on 36 wavy absorbers and their crushing properties were extracted and compared with the simple one. The effect of different parameters, including wave height, wave depth, and wave type; either internal or external on the crushing characteristics were also investigated. To experimentally create corrugation to validate the numerical results, a set of steel mandrel and matrix along with press machines were used. Since the initial specimens were brittle, they were subjected to heat treatment and annealing to gain the required ductility for forming with mandrel and matrix. The annealing of aluminum shells resulted in a 76%increase in ultimate strain and a 60% and 56% decrease in yield and ultimate stresses, respectively. The results showed that with increasing half-wave height in wavy square absorbers, the maximum force was first reduced and then increased. It was also found that in the specimen with constant diameter and half-wave depth, an increment in the half-wave height led to an initial increase in efficiency, followed by a decline. According to the conducted investigations, the lowe maximum force can be observed in the specimen with zero half-wave depth as compared to those having a depth of 1 cm.

A large number of small particles may surround large gravels which are non-contact and dispersed within the ground. The strength of such soil may be influenced by the mechanical properties of a few coarse gravels. A specimen or gravel size can impact the shear characteristics of sand with dispersed gravels. In this study, the size of gravel and specimen varies and its effect on shear characteristics of a granular soil was evaluated. Five sizes of gravels with 7, 12, 15, 18, and 22 mm were used repeatedly and inserted in the middle of each compacted layer. A specimen consists of five or ten equal layers depending on gravel size, which is 5 cm or 10 cm in diameter and 10 cm or 20 cm in height. An embedded gravel ratio by weight is 3% and constant for all cases with gravel. After consolidation, a series of undrained triaxial compression tests under three confining pressures was performed on sand with dispersed gravels. The maximum deviator stress of a specimen with 10 cm in diameter was at average 30% higher than that with 5 cm in diameter and increased up to 90% for a specimen with gravel. When a gravel size of 7 and 12 mm used, the maximum deviator stress of a specimen with 10 cm in diameter was higher than that of one without gravel, whereas the maximum deviator stress of a specimen with 5 cm was higher or lower than that without gravel. The gravel size and specimen diameter influenced the undrained behavior of sand. The maximum deviator stress of a specimen with gravel either increased or decreased compared to that without gravel, depending on the ratio of gravel size to specimen diameter, 1/5.

Internal factors having effects on compressive strength test results of concrete include size, shape, height-diameter ratio(h/d), section processing method, dryness and wetness, etc. of the specimen. As it is difficult to ensure dimensions of core specimen due to rebar cutting from rebar spacing, wall thickness, effects on the structure, etc. when taking core of the concrete structure, correction of dimensions and h/d of the specimen become important for quality control of the concrete. Thus, in order to review effects of specimen size and height-diameter ratio for the concretes with compressive strength within 40~60MPa, this study has experimentally reviewed compressive strength test values by applying correction factors pursuant to KS F 2422 (Method of obtaining and testing drilled cores and sawed beams of concrete), when changing specimen diameter to ${\emptyset}5{\sim}15cm$, and h/d to 2.0~1.25.

The strength and durability of concrete are affected by various factors such as the quality of material, mixing ratio, construction, the method of cure, time elapsed. the condition of test and etc., it is very difficult to pre-estimate the strength of concrete with the use of experimental specimen. The domestic standard of specimen cylindrical type and its sizes are both l0cm$\times$20cm and 15cm$\times$30cm, which are prescribed in KS F2405, and the loading speed is prescribed to test with 2~3kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ per second. The loading speed should have great effect on the compressive strength, but in reality in the construction site sometimes the loading speed is applied so dubiously that the value of the compressive strength can be unreliable. And the cross sectional area of a specimen should be level and smooth, otherwise it can be broken at a lower stress than the real strength through the eccentric or intensive working of the load. Capping should be carried out in order to measure the strength correctly. And used for capping are various materials such as capping compound, cement glue, plaster, mechanical grinding and etc. In this study, therefore, I have carried out an experiment on the relationship among the loading speed, the ratio of height to diameter of specimen, the method of capping, and the compressive strength, for the efficient quality control of concrete structures. So this study has been purposed to provide some basic data that can be used effectively at construction sites.
This Study is results of experimental works to investigate the characteristics of vibro-compaction of crushed stones having coarse grain sizes. For testing material, crushed stone, sieved within very narrow ranges of grain size distribution, was used. Cyclic loading apparatus was used to apply cyclic loading to the specimen prepared in the mold. Tests were performed by changing the ratio of the maximum to the minimum stress, frequency and the magnitude of the maximum and the minimum stresses. Settlement of specimen due to cyclic loading was measured to analyze the compaction efficiency and sieve analysis test after cyclic loading test was also carried out to find the crushing rate of the specimen. As results of cyclic loading test, normalized settlement in terms of specimen height tends to be converged around loading cycle number of 1500. The magnitude of normalized settlement is in the range of 3.11 ~ 8.57%. The crushing rate is in the range of 4.46 ~ 8.78%. Normalize settlement and the crushing rate tend to increase with decreasing the ratio of the maximum to the minimum stresses and they tend to increase with increasing the frequency and the magnitude of the maximum and the minimum stresses for the given ratio. In conclusions, compaction rate of crushed stone is controlled by the dynamic stress (difference between the maximum and the minimum stresses) and the crushing rate is dominated by applied energy to the specimen.
