To establish a database for artificial seed production of stone flounder Kareius bicoloratus, experiments were conducted to study the characteristics of spawning and fecundity of this species. Broodstocks were captured in the area of Gyeokryeolbiyeoldo, Chungnam, Korea in October 2003 and induced to natural spawning. The broodstock consisted of 12 females (34.5~51.0 cm total length and 540~2,200 g body weight) and 23 males (29.0~38.0 cm total length and 310~680 g body weight). Gonad development began in December and proceeded in the direction of the tail; measurements were made with the naked eye. The tank-held broodstock were reared for 3 months before spawning, which continued for 77 days from January 9 to March 27, 2004. Daylength during the spawning was recorded at the yearly shortest of 9.8~12.1 hours and the water temperature was maintained at $8.4{\sim}12.2^{\circ}C$. The total fecundity was 19,844,000 individuals, among which 15,433,000 individuals (77.8%) were produced during the mid-spawning period. The average bloating rate, egg-fertilization rate and hatching rate of the total number spawned reached 50.4%, 58.5% and 55.6%, respectively, and 93.8% of the hatched fry appeared normal. The number of total eggs in absolute fecundity per total length was proportional to both lengths, as was the number of total eggs in relative fecundity per total length. The number of total eggs in absolute fecundity per body weight was proportional to body weight as was the number in relative fecundity per body weight except that the number in relative fecundity per gram decreased after a peak in increased body weight at a certain point.
The gonadosomatic index (GSI), fatness, ovarian development, first sexual maturity, and fecundity of the Korean anchovy Coilia nasus were investigated by histological observations and morphometric analysis from January to December, 2007. The GSI and fatness began to increase in February, and reached the maximum in June when the ovary was getting mature and spawning occurred. Thereafter these parametes rapidly decreased in July when spawning occurred. Therefore, monthly changes in the GSI and fatness were closely related to ovarian maturation and spawning. The duration of ovarian development in females can be classified into five successive stages: early growing stage (February to March), late growing stage (March to April), mature stage (May to June), ripe and spent stage (June to July), and recovery and resting stage (December to January). Maturation and spawning of this species occurred between June and July during the period of high seawater temperature-long day length. Percentages of first sexual maturity in female individuals were over 50% for fish ranging 24.1 to 27.0 cm in total length, and 100% for fish over 30.1 cm in total length. The number of total eggs and mature eggs in the absolute fecundity were increased with the increase of total length and body weight, respectively. The number of total eggs and mature eggs in relative fecundity were also proportional to total length, but rather these numbers decreased in the maximum body weight (126.0${\sim}$150.0 g).
This study aims at obtaining the basic data for the development of pen shell culture at Yoja Bay, the southwest coast of Korea. The authors dealt with the annual gonadal changes of the pen shell, Atrina pectinata japonica, to find out the gametogenesis, reproductive cycle and spawning season, and to investigate the fluctuation in the larval occurence in Yoja Bay. From July 1983 to June 1984, an average of 20 individuals as specimens were monthly collected by commercial fishing dredge near Manwol island located at the mouth of Yoja Bay. The degree of gonadal development was determined by the histological observations as resting spent stage, early developmental stage, after developmental stage, early spawning stage, after spawning stage and degenerative stage. According to these degrees of gonadal development, annual reproductive cycle of the pen shell population was determined. From July to August, the gonads were changed through degenerative into resting stage and, in September and October, they became entirely empty gonads. From November they showed the first sign of gametogenesis developing very slowly. Nevertheless, the developing gametes did not increase in number probably owing to a phagocytic phenomenon by phagocytes which appeared in the gonad during this stage. Some individuals started spawning in April and in May majarity of individuals were in spawning stage. In June, majority of the individuals showed signs of degenerative stage. Therefore, the authors came to a conclusion that the pen shells in Yoja Bay spawn chiefly in May. And this is also supported by the result of the survey on the planktonic occurrences of the pen shell larvae. Namely, there were no larvae at all in April, only a few in May and many in June by vertical water sampling.
A study on the spawning and fecundity of anchovy, Engraulis japonica, in the southern waters of Korea was carried out on the basis of data collected from gonad examination during March-september, 1991. Spawning period showed that length class in the range of 9-12cm fork length occurred during May-July, whereas adults above 12cm from March to September. In comparison with the oocyte compositions of the ovary of anchovy adult caught at sunrise and sunset, together with variation of the gonad weight and sex ratio of the fish sampled during time between 14:00 and 21:00, considering that the oocyte more than 600um in diameter existed much in the samples from sunset compared with that from sunrise, as well as a decreasing trend in the gonad weight and proportion of female of anchovy taken around sunset, spawning was estimated to occur mainly after sunset. The proportion of the adult with a pronounced peak above 600um in oocyte composition was estimated to be about $20\%$ of the spawning population. Fecundity was estimated to the range of about 23,000-315,000 with batch fecundity of 1,857-8,223 and specific batch fecundity of $438\pm146$.
The reproduction of marbled sole Limanda yokohamae, caught near around the southeastern coast of Korea, from December 1983 to November 1984, was investigated based on such annual variations as gonadosomatic index(GSL), gametogenesis, reproductive cycle, spawning number, hepatosomatic index (HSI), and fatness. GSI began to increase in the autumn season with the onset of shorter day length and colder water temperature, and reached the maximum value in December with the shortest day length and the lowest temperature over the year. The gonad activated the proliferation of oogonia and spermatogonia in June, reached the mature stage in October, ripe in December, and spawning from the end of December to January. After spawning, it showed the resting stage which gonad remained regressive and suppressive from February to May. In addition, the adult individuals observed discharged eggs only once during their spawning period. At yolk globular stage, the substance of vitellogenin synthesized from the liver was considered to participate in the active yolk accumulation of oocytes. Marbled sole was concluded to be a typical winter spawning species in that such environmental factors as short day length and low water temperature were closely related with the gametogenesis, the stimulation of oocyte maturation, and were also affecting the ovulation.
This study was conducted in Lake Hayq between January and December 2018. The objectives of this study were to determine the growth, condition, sex ratio, fecundity, length at first sexual maturity (L50), and spawning seasons of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Monthly fish samples of C. carpio were collected using gillnets of stretched mesh sizes of 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, and 13 cm and beach seines of mesh size of 6 cm. Immediately after the fish were captured, total length (TL) and total weight (TW) for each individual were measured in centimeters and grams, respectively, and their relationship was determined using power function. Length at first maturity (L50) was determined for both males and females using the logistic regression model. The spawning season was determined from the frequency of mature gonads and variation of gonadosomatic index (GSI) values of both males and females. Fecundity was analyzed from 67 mature female specimens. The length and weight relationship of C. carpio was TW = 0.015TL2.93 for females and TW = 0.018TL2.87 for males that indicate negative allometric growth in both cases. The mean Fulton condition factor (CF) was 1.23 ± 0.013 for females and 1.21 ± 0.011 for males. The value of CF in both cases was > 1 that shows both sexes are in good condition. Among the total 1055 C. carpio collected from Lake Hayq, 459 (43.5%) were females and 596 (56.5%) were males. The chi-square test showed that there was a significant deviation between male and female numbers from 1:1 ratio (χ2= 22, df = 11, P > 0.05) within sampling months. The length at first sexual maturity (L50) for females and males were 21.5 and 17.5 cm, respectively. Males mature at smaller sizes than females. The spawning season of C. carpio was extended from February to April, and the peak spawning season for both sexes was in April. The average absolute fecundity was 28,100 ± 17,462. C. carpio is currently the commercially important fish while Nile tilapia fishery has declined in Lake Hayq. Therefore, this baseline data on growth, condition, and reproductive biology of common carp will be essential to understand the status of the population of carp and design appropriate management systems for the fish stock of Lake Hayq, Ethiopia, and adjacent countries.

This study was performed to describe the effect of water temperature, salinity and density on the eggs development of the hard clam, Meretrix petechialis. Eggs of Meretrix petechialis were turned out to be demersal isolated eggs of $82.3-86.1{\mu}m$ in an average diameter after spawning. The hatching rate of D-shaped larvae by elapsed time after spawning was the highest in fertilization immediately after spawning and distinguished decrease from 1 hour of spawning. The optimum water temperature for development of D-shaped larvae from fertilization was ranged between $25^{\circ}C$ to $27^{\circ}C$. However, D-shaped larvae was not developed at $33^{\circ}C$ of water temperature. The required time from fertilization to D-shaped larvae were 37.3 hours in $20^{\circ}C$, 20.8 hours in $25^{\circ}C$, and 15.3 hours in $30^{\circ}C$. Biological minimum temperature for the egg development was estimated to be $12.4^{\circ}C$ in average. The range of salinity for the development of eggs were 20.0-37.5 psu, optimum range was estimated to be 27.5-32.5 psu.

The ecophysiological characteristics of the oyster Crassostrea gigas in Taean area, west coast of Korea, were investigated after main spawning season from September 2011 to January 2012 to confirm the recovery process of condition. The cupped oysters, from 4 different off-bottom culture areas were compared the gonad indices, histological analysis combined with measurement of RNA/DNA contents and ratios in gonad of each sex were undertaken. To evaluate the health condition of oyster after spawning, the RNA/DNA ratio in adductor muscle, fatness and condition index (CI) were used. The results showed that cupped oysters cultured in Uihang coastal area were different physiological aspects than other experiment areas, namely continuously decreasing RNA/DNA content and ratio in adductor muscle, lowest CI and fatness. Oysters cultured in Iwon Station 1 and 2 showed fast recovery in RNA/DNA, increase in fatness and CI during post-spawning stage until October rapidly and there after it decreased. Oysters in Shinduri showed rapidly decrease in fatness and CI until October. On the contrary to this factors, RNA/DNA ratio in adductor muscle increased as like protein until October. Partially spawning season could be observed until December in Shinduri and Iwon Station 1.

The gonadal development of triploid and diploid Pacific abalones, Haliotis discus hannai was histologically investigated in spawning season. Diploid abalones had matured oocytes and spermatozoa, but most triploid had spermatocytes or developing oocytes that was slightly retarded in gonadal development compared to diploid abalones. In spawning experiment of triploid and diploid abalones, spawning rates of diploid male and female were 100%, but those of triploid female was 50% and male was 25% respectively. Investigation of spawned abalone eggs and spermatozoa revealed that length of diploid sperms head were 17.47 ${\mu}m$, breadth of head were 10.31 ${\mu}m$, length of spermatozoa were 130.72 ${\mu}m$, but those of triploid spermatozoa were 11.83 ${\mu}m$, 7.89 ${\mu}m$ and 103.36 ${\mu}m$ respectively. Triploid spermatozoa were significantly small to diploid spermatozoa (p < 0.05). The eggs of diploid and triploid were not different in size. The cross experiment between oocytes produced by triploids and spermatozoa by diploids ($3n{\times}2n$ cross) revealed that no fertilization were occurred, and $2n{\times}3n$ cross also revealed same result.

The maturity and spawning of brown sole, Pleuronectes herzensteini were investigated using samples randomly collected in the East Sea of Korea from April, 2003 to March, 2004. We analyzed monthly changes in maturity stages, gonadosomatic index (GSI), egg diameter, fecundity (F), total length (TL) at 50% group maturity, and sex ratio. The spawning period was February to May, and the main spawning period was March to April. The fecundity was 38,702 eggs at 22 cm (TL) to 133,085 eggs at 37 cm (TL), and the relationship between TL and F was $F=11.307TL^{2.628}$. The TL at first maturity was 15 cm and at 100% maturity, 21 cm. Thus, TL at 50% group maturity was estimated to be 17.8 cm, which corrensponded to the age of 3 years. The sex ratio was 60.2 for female and 39.8 for male, where the female population was seen to be slightly predominant.
