  • In this paper, the Colliding Bodies Optimization (CBO), Enhanced Colliding Bodies Optimization (ECBO) and Vibrating Particles System (VPS) algorithms and the force method are used for the simultaneous analysis and design of truss structures. The presented technique is applied to the design and analysis of some planer and spatial trusses. An efficient method is introduced using the CBO, ECBO and VPS to design trusses having members of prescribed stress ratios. Finally, the minimum weight design of truss structures is formulated using the CBO, ECBO and VPS algorithms and applied to some benchmark problems from literature. These problems have been designed by using displacement method as analyzer, and here these are solved for the first time using the force method. The accuracy and efficiency of the presented method is examined by comparing the resulting design parameters and structural weight with those of other existing methods.

  • Metaheuristic algorithm is used to solve the weight minimization problem of truss structures considering shape, and sizing design variables. The cross-sectional areas of the line element in trusses are the design variables for size optimization and the changeable joint coordinates are the shape optimization used in this study. The design of plane and spatial truss structures are optimized by metaheuristic technique named Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO). Finite element analyses of structures and optimization process are carried out by the computer program visually developed by the authors coded in MATLAB. The four benchmark problems (trusses 2D ten-bar, 3D thirty-seven-bar, 3D seventy-two-bar and 2D two-hundred-bar) taken from literature are optimized and the optimal solution compared the results given by previous studies.

  • The purpose of seismic isolation system among them is to lengthen the period of structure and make its period shift from the dominant period of earthquake. In this study, the seismic behavior of arch structure with lead rubber bearing(LRB) and friction pendulum system(FPS) is analyzed. The arch structure is the simplest structure and has the basic dynamic characteristics among large spatial structures. Also, Large spatial structures have large vertical response by horizontal seismic vibration, unlike seismic behavior of normal rahmen structures. When horizontal seismic load is applied to the large spatial structure with isolation systems, the horizontal acceleration response of the large spatial structure is reduced and the vertical seismic response is remarkably reduced.

  • The objective of this paper is to help to make decision of the appropriate structural types in long span structured building due to range of span. For the intention, based on 7 forces of structural element, it is analized the relationships among 6 configurations of structural element(d/1), 25 structural types, 4 materials, and span-length known with 186 sample from 1850 to 1996. 1) bending forces: $club(1/100{\sim}1/10),\;plate(1/100{\sim}1/10),\;rahmen(steel,\;10{\sim}24m)\;simple\;beam(PC,\;10{\sim}35m)$ 2) shearing forces: $shell(1/100{\sim}1/1000)\;hyperbolic\;paraboloids(RC,25{\sim}97m)$ 3) shearing+bending forces: plate, folded $plate(RC21{\sim}59m)$ 4) compression axial forces: club, $arch(RC,\;32{\sim}65m)$ 5) compression+tension forces: shell, braced dome $shell(RC,\;40{\sim}201m),\;vault\;shell(RC,\;16{\sim}103m)$ 6) compression+tension axial forces: $rod(1/1000{\sim}1/100)$, cable(below 1/1000)+rod, coble+rod+membrane(below 1/1000), planar $truss(steel,\;31{\sim}134m),\;arch\;truss(31{\sim}135m),\;horizontal\;spaceframe(29{\sim}10\;8m),\;portal\;frame(39{\sim}55m),\;domical\;space\;truss(44{\sim}222m),\;framed\;\;membrane(45{\sim}110m),\;hybrid\;\;membrane\;(42{\sim}256m)$ 7) tension forces: cable, membrane, $suspension(60{\sim}150m),\;cable\;\;beam(40{\sim}130m),\;tensile\;membrane(42{\sim}136m),\;cable\;-slayed(25{\sim}90m),\;suspension\;membrane(24{\sim}97m),\;single\;layer\;pneumatic\;structure(45{\sim}231m),\;double\;layer\;pneumatic\;structures(30{\sim}44m)$

  • This research is to analyze the modern warehouses in Gunsan during the Japanese Colonial Period. They were the spatial and urban symbol of City of Rice, Gunsan. The main purpose of this study is to survey the modern warehouses in the original center of city, to find their architectural characteristics and to set up a possibility of reuse. 7 existing warehouse buildings are located at Jangmi-Dong and Jooksung-Dong, and they have been built between 1935 and 1940. The warehouse buildings have a module of 6m and they are generally 12m wide, 24~48m long and 8m high. Their structure is composed of reinforced concrete and wooden truss. All warehouse buildings have a rectangular form. Now the diverse commercial programs occupy the original space. Modern warehouse in Gunsan has the spatial and symbolic value as industrial heritage. Therefore, it is necessary to respect the original value of modern warehouse and to create a reusing space for the current generation. It is also essential to verify restoring possibility of three symbolic warehouse buildings in the harbour that were demolished.

  • This paper study on the accuracy improvement of nonlinear stiffness equation. The large structure must have thin thickness for build the large space structure there fore structure instability review is important when we do structural design. The structure instability of the shelled structure is accept it sensitively by varied conditions. This come to a nonlinear problem with be concomitant large deformation. Accuracy of nonlinear stiffness equation must improve to examine structure instability. In this study, space truss is analysis model Among tangent stiffness equation and nonlinear stiffness equation is using nonlinearity analysis program. The study compares an analysis result to investigate accuracy and convergence properties improvement of nonlinear stiffness equation.

  • A geometrically nonlinear finite element formulation of spatial cable networks is presented using two cable elements. Firstly, derivation procedures of tangent stiffness and mass matrices for the space truss element and the elastic catenary cable element are summarized. The load incremental method based on Newton-Raphson iteration method and the dynamic relaxation method are presented in order to determine the initial static state of cable nets subjected to self-weights and support motions. Furthermore, static non-linear analysis of cable structures under additional live loads are performed based on the initial configuration. Challenging example problems are presented and discussed in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the present finite element method and investigate static nonlinear behaviors of cable nets.

  • Magnetic flux sensors are commonly used in monitoring the cable force, but the application of the sensors in large diameter non-closed Galfan cables, as those adopted in Yueqing Gymnasium which is located in Yueqing City, Zhejiang Province, China and is the largest span hybrid space structure in the world, is seldom done in engineering. Based on the construction of Yueqing Gymnasium, this paper studies the cable tension monitoring using the magnetic flux method across two stages, namely, the pre-calibration stage before the cable leaves the rigging factory and the field tension formation stage of the cable system. In the pre-calibration stage in the cable factory, a series of 1:1 full-scale comparative tests were carried out to study the feasibility and relability of this kind of monitoring method, and the influence on the monitoring results of charging and discharging voltage, sensor location, cable diameter and fitting method were also studied. Some meaningful conclusions were obtained. On this basis, the real-time cable tension monitoring system of the structure based on the magnetic flux method is established. During the construction process, the monitoring results of the cables are in good agreement with the data of the on-site pressure gauge. The work of this paper will provide a useful reference for cable force monitoring in the construction process of long-span spatial structures.
