  • The most important factor in pre-school children's psychological perception is ease of learning, and the closest measure is "natural" interaction. This study aims to explore the potential of tangible user interfaces (TUI) for AR collaboration for children's cognitive development. The conceptual model is constructed by analyzing physical interaction, spatial perception and social collaboration on the usability of TUI, to explore the role of TUI in pre-school children's cognition. In the empirical study, children aged 3-6 were taken as research objects. The experimental tool is "Plugo" education application. Parents answered questionnaires after observing their children's use. Research shows that physical interaction are the most critical factor in TUI. TUI is beneficial to the cultivation of spatial ability. The results are as follows: 1. Cronbach's Alpha and KMO were 0.921 and 0.965, which were significant and passed the reliability and validity test. 2. Through confirmatory factor analysis (model fit index, combinatorial validity), we found that physical interaction were closely related to usability. 3. The path analysis of the relationship proves that usability has a significant impact on the cultivation of pre-school children's spatial ability.

  • A quick and automatic detection with no harm to the goods is very important task for improving quality control, process control and labour reduction. In real fields of industry, defect detection is mostly accomplished by skillful workers. A narrow band eliminating spatial filter having characteristics of removing the specified spatial frequency is developed by the author, and it is proved that the filter has an excellent ability for on-line and real time detection of surface defect. By the way,. this spatial filter shows a ripple phenominum in filtering characteristics. So, it is necessary to remove the ripple component for the improvement of filter gain, moreover efficiency of defect detection. The spatial filtering method has a remarkable feature which means that it is able to set up weighting function for its own sake, and which can to obtain the best signal relating to the purpose of the measurement. Hence, having an eye on such feature, theoretical analysis is carried out at first for optimal design of narrow band eliminating spatial filter, and secondly, on the basis of above results spatial filter is manufactured, and finally advanced effectiveness of spatial filter is evaluated experimentally.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a framework for predicting searching performance through an understanding of how cognitive ability relates to searching process and outcome. Specifically, this study examined the relationship between spatial visualization, logical reasoning, integrative reasoning, and information searching process and outcome. Information searching process was assessed by seven search process indicators: (1) search command selection: (2) combination of search commands; (3) application of Boolean logic: (4) application of truncation; (5) use of limit search function; (6) number of search statements; and (7) number of search errors made. Searching outcome was assessed by the number of correct answers to search questions. Subjects first took three standardized cognitive tests that measured cognitive abilities, and performed online catalog searching in response to seven information search questions. The searches were logged using Lotus ScreenCam, and reviewed for the analysis. Factor analysis was used to find underlying structures of the seven search process variables. Multiple regression analysis was applied to examine the predictive power of three cognitive variables on three extracted factors, and search outcome. Results of the data analysis showed that individual differences in logical reasoning could predict information searching process and outcome.

  • This study is about the class model that can demonstrate the modeling ability using the spatial perception capability on basic modeling required for jewelry design majors and the most important perspective method in jewelry design. The outputs were obtained by presenting the topics for creative activities to students after theoretical explaining how to present a spatial sense and presenting practical classes on basic shapes, stereoscopic shapes and perspective methods. While the existing basic molding classes were only practical classes, this study presented students with a class model that allows them to use creativity, basic perspective, and spatial sense together. And it was found out evaluation method that both students and professors can relate to each other through the intensive education effects and clear evaluation standards. I hope that this paper will continue to study more diverse materials and convergent class models.

  • Geometric education emphasize reasoning ability and spatial sense through development of logical thinking and intuitions in space. Researches about space understanding go along with investigations of space perception ability which is composed of space relationship, space visualization, space direction etc. Especially space visualization is one of the factors which try conclusion with geometric problem solving. But studies about space visualization are limited to middle school geometric education, studies in elementary level haven't been done until now. Namely, discussions about elementary students' space visualization process and ability in plane or space figures is deficient in relation to geometric problem solving. This paper examines these aspects, especially in relation to plane and space problem solving in elementary levels. Firstly we propose the analysis frame to investigate a visualization process for plane problem solving and a visualization ability for space problem solving. Nextly we select 13 elementary students, and observe closely how a visualization process is progress and how a visualization ability is played role in geometric problem solving. Together with these analyses, we propose concrete examples of visualization ability which make a road to geometric problem solving. Through these analysis, this paper aims at deriving various discussions about visualization in geometric problem solving of the elementary mathematics.

  • In multiple antenna systems, spatial facing correlation causes a significant degradation in performance. In this work, a method for reducing the sensitivity to spatial fading correlation through the bi-directional use of spatial resources is investigated. Firstly, the concept of bi-directional use of spatial resources is introduced. Then, the ability of this technique to reduce the sensitivity to spatial fading correlation is then shown through an analysis of the number of usable eigenmodes (UEMs). This system is found to efficiently reduce the sensitivity to spatial fading correlation.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of young children's age and information processing style in understanding spatial coordinates. For sampling the subjects of this study, Korean version K-ABC Intelligence Test(Moon, Soo-Back, 1997)was conducted with 165 children aged 5-6 who were attending I and G kindergarten in D city. From this pool 30 children who possessed sequential processing style and 30 children who possessed simultaneous processing style were sampled. In order to analyze the understanding of spatial coordinates, a test tool was formulated according to methodology of Blades & Spencer(1989) which was modified. Acquired data was subjected to descriptive and comparative statistical analysis. The following conclusions were arrived at: Firstly, there was significant difference between 5-year-olds and 6-year-olds in understanding spatial coordinates. The 6-year-old group got statistically higher grades than the 5-year-old group in locating a point on the coordinate plane and reading the coordinate numbers. Secondly, there was significant difference between children's information processing style in understanding spatial coordinate. Children with high simultaneous-low sequential processing showed higher performance in locating a point on the coordinate plane and reading coordinate numbers than children with high sequential-low simultaneous processing. Thirdly, after verifying statistical significance of interactivity between young children's age and children's processing strength, there was significant interactive effects in both tasks.

  • Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a common cause of stroke, and it occurs mainly in the striatum, thalamus, cerebellum, and pons. Physical exercise is known to ameliorate neurologic impairment induced by various brain insults. In the present study, the influence of pre-and post-conditioning of treadmill exercise on spatial learning ability, the lesion volume, and apoptotic neuronal cell death in the striatum following ICH in rats was investigated. ICH in the striatum was induced by injection of collagenase using strereotaxic instrument. The rats in the pre-exercise group were scheduled to run on a treadmill before ICH induction for 2 consecutive weeks. The rats in the post-exercise group were scheduled to run on a treadmill after ICH induction for 2 weeks. The rats in the pre-exercise and post-exercise group were scheduled to run on a preconditioning treadmill exercise 2 weeks before ICH induction until postconditioning treadmill exercise 2 weeks after ICH induction, except the day of surgery. For this study, radial arm maze task, Nissl staining, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay, and immunohistochemistry for caspase-3 were performed. Our date showed that treadmill exercise suppressed the ICH-induced apoptotic neuronal cell death and decreased lesion volume in the stratum. Treadmill exercise also alleviated the ICH-induced impairment of spatial learning ability. Preconditioning treadmill exercise before the ICH insult and postconditioning treadmill exercise after the ICH insult showed similar effectiveness on the recovery of ICH. In this study, however, preconditioning exercise before the ICH insult and postconditioning exercise after the ICH insult showed the most potent effectiveness on the recovery of ICH.

  • Selectivity estimation of queries not only provides useful information to the query processing optimization but also may give users with a preview of processing results. In this paper, we investigate the problem of selectivity estimation in the context of a spatial dataset. Although several techniques have been proposed in the literature to estimate spatial query result sizes, most of those techniques still have some drawback in the case that a large amount of memory is required to retain accurate selectivity. To eliminate the drawback of estimation techniques in previous works, we propose a new method called MW Histogram. Our method is based on two techniques: (a) MinSkew partitioning algorithm that processes skewed spatial datasets efficiently (b) Wavelet transformation which compression effect is proven. We evaluate our method via real datasets. With the experimental result, we prove that the MW Histogram has the ability of providing estimates with low relative error and retaining the similar estimates even if memory space is small.
