This paper presented the CanSat competition as one of very small satellite programs for expending the space technology base. The CanSat was compared and characterized with a real satellite and the foreign CanSat competition cases and domestic CanSat development trends were summarized. On the basis of the above information, the organizational structure and function were suggested for domestic CanSat competition and the required technologies, such as satellite, launcher and ground station were described. And also, the prior plan for competition, including mission, education and schedule were suggested.
Acoustic and vibration research activities for the structural development of Korean space launch vehicles are introduced in this paper. Various dynamic loads exerted on a launch vehicle during its operation are summarized. The acoustical design method of payload fairings which protect satellites from harsh launch environment was reviewed. Several acoustic research activities were performed to enhance the analytical prediction ability during the development period of the Naro and the Nuri launcher. Specifically, the following research activities are reviewed: a test and vibro-acoustic analysis of composite cylinders whose layup properties are varied, a research on low-frequency acoustic load reduction by an acoustic resonator array and an acoustic test on the cylinder part of the Naro payload fairing. A vibro-acoustic analysis result for the Nuri launcher was introduced and predicted acoustic and vibration levels and measured ones are shown to be in a good agreement.

Upper stage of launch vehicle mainly injects a lunar explorer from low earth orbit to the moon at a distance of 380,000 km. In foreign lunar explorer, the upper stage is separated from the explorer after the explorer is injected into the earth-moon transfer trajectory, and the lunar explorer then uses on-board propellant to carry out mid-course correction maneuvers and lunar orbit insertion maneuvers. This study describes a newly presented small liquid upper stage. Using a small liquid upper stage with a wet mass of 2.9 tonnes, the lunar explorer not only can be injected earth-moon transfer trajectory but also can be performed lunar orbit insertion. This study provides acceptable mass range of the lunar explorer and the scope of acceptable mission range also describes based on the launch from Naro Space Center.

To lunch the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II(KSLV-II), a second launch complex will be built at the Naro Space Center, and a Kerosene Filling System (KFS) will be installed. KFS of KSLV-II launch complex system is being designed based on Naro Launch Complex. But this must supply fuel to fuel tanks of the vehicle with only a supply pump because KSLV-II is a 3-stage launch vehicle unlike Naro Launch Vehicle or Test Launch Vehicle (TLV). A sudden rise of pump output pressure is recognized during fuel filling scenario selection process. This occurs because return flow can not actively deal with much flow change using the orifice-type flow-control method. To solve this problem, it is verified that fuel can be stably supplied by installing an accumulator, designed for appropriate adjustment of filling-mode change sequence via flow analysis of various cases.
The end of the ROK-U.S. missile guidelines opened up the possibility of developing space launch vehicles for various platforms based on air and sea. In particular, the air-based space launch vehicle is an essential space power projection capability compared to the ground-based space launch vehicle in consideration of the geographical location of the Korean Peninsula, such as the deployment of various satellite orbits and the timely launch of satellite. In addition, compared to the ground-based launch vehicle, the cost reduction effect is large, and it has the merit of energy gain because it can be launched with the advantage of the aircraft's altitude and speed. Therefore, in this paper, the necessity of air-based space launch vehicle in the strategic environment of the Korean Peninsula is clearly presented, and through technology trend analysis of various air launch vehicle, the three methods are proposed to have the most efficient air-based space launch vehicle capability in the Korean situation.
This paper discusses the structural design and analysis of a 6,000 meters depth-rated capable deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) system. The UUV system is currently under development by Maritime and Ocean Engineering Research Institute(MOERI), Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI). The UUV system is composed of three vehicles - a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) and a Launcher - which include underwater equipment. The dry weight of the system exceeds 3 tons hence it is necessary to carry out the optimal design of structural system to ensure the minimum weight and sufficient space within the frame for the convenient use of the embedded equipments. In this paper, therefore, the structural design and analysis of the ROV and launcher frame system were carried out, using the optimizing process. The cylindrical pressure vessels for the ROV were designed to resist the extreme pressure of 600 bars, based on the finite element analysis. The collapse pressure for the cylindrical pressure vessels was also checked through a theoretical analysis.

This work uses different finite element approaches to the free vibration analysis of reinforced shell structures, and a simplified model of a typical launcher with two boosters is used as an example. The results obtained using a refined one-dimensional (1D) beam model are compared to those obtained with commercial finite element software. The 1D models that are used in the present work are based on the Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF), which assumes a variable kinematic displacement field over the cross-sections of the beam. Two different sets of polynomials that correspond to Taylor (TE) or Lagrange (LE) expansions were used. The analyses focused on three reinforced structures: a stiffened panel, a reinforced cylinder and the complete structure of the launcher. The frequencies and natural modes obtained using one-dimensional models are compared to those obtained from classical finite element analysis. The classical FE models were built using a beam-shell or solid elements, and the results indicate that the refined beam models can in fact be used to investigate the behavior of very complex reinforced structures. These models can predict the shell-like modes that are typical of thin-walled structures that cannot be detected using classical beam models. The refined 1D models used in the present work provide results that are as accurate as those from solid FE models, but the 1D models have a much lower computational cost.

This study investigates the use of movable calibration target for gyroscopic and accelerometer bias compensation of inertial measurement units for firing lane alignment. Calibration source is detected with the help of vision sensor and its information in fused with other sensors on launcher for error correction. An algorithm is proposed and tested in simulation. It has been shown that it is possible to compensate sensor biases in firing launcher in few seconds by accurately estimating the location of calibration target in inertial frame of reference.
