Multipurpose fisheries base was conceptually designed to establish marine ranching system in the coastal waters around Tongyoung, southern sea of Korea. Fisheries base for marine ranching system has integrated various facilities which were required for the process of spawning, rearing, training, releasing, monitoring and catching functions. This base has five steel piles for supporting upper structure and systems. Four steel piles are surrounded by circular net pen made by steel wire, they have the function of the protection against fouling for pile and scouring for bottom soil as well as secondary rearing and short stocking. We can use the last pile to moor a ship and access to the base. Principal structure with steel piles is designed by optimization technique considering design external forces in the coastal waters of return period of 50 years. Design optimization Problem is formulated for this base. Optimal design of multipurpose fisheries base is numerically investigated by sequential quadratic programming method.

The characteristics of tidal exchange in Masan Bay were studied on the basis of salinity observations and current measurements in the summer of 1985. The exchange ratio of the sea water was calculated using three different formulas. The tidal exchange rate was estimated to be smaller than that of another bays in the southern coast of Korea. The tidal exchange ratios in Masan Bay at spring tide were deduced to be 2.4-11.7%. While those at neap tide were 2.0-9.1%. Though tidal range of neap tide is smaller than that of spring tide. the tidal exchange ratio in the bay can be increased in case of highly stratified vertical structure.
Baculovirus(WSBV) was isolated from infected Penaeide was collected from shrimp farm at southern sea of Korea from 1993 to 1995. The Infectious virus was purified and used for diagnosis of infected shrimp. Anti-viral serum were used for immunological detection as enzyme linked immunoabsorbent assay(ELISA) and indirect fluorescent antibody technique(IFAT). In IFAT, stomach, lymphoid organ and antenae gland of infected shrimp showed fluorescent reaction. In ELISA, tissues of spontaneously infected shrimp appeared higher O.D. values than in artificial infected shrimp. Primer set was constructed from sequence of 420bp of cloned Baculovirus(WSBV) genome. Specific band for infected shrimp was detected in Polymerase chain reaction(PCR)
A study was carried out on the distribution of chlorophyll a and water quality in the dry season in Yosuhae bay and adjoining sea, Southern Korea, in July of 1994. Concentration of salinity and phosphate were lower in the outer bay than in the inner bay. While nitrate and silicate were higher in the former than in the latter. We were identified with coastal waters of origin from China with the lower salinity in outer bay. The China coastal water was characteristic of high nutrients and phytoplankton biomass, such as chlorophyll a. The principal component analysis-(PCA) on the analytical data proved that high density of phytoplankton biomass , occurred under the condition of low salinity and high concentration of nissoived Inorganic nutrients. It is thought that the thermoharine structure and biological produtions of Yosuhae bay were controlled by the China coastal water in the outer bay.
A series of bromophenols and corresponding debrominated phenolic compounds was prepared by isolation from red alga Tichocarpus crinitus and by structural modification of natural bromophenols. Their structures were determined by extensive NMR analysis and the antioxidant activities were established through the determination of their abilities to inhibit free radicals using DPPH as the stable radical. The most active free radical scavengers were the debrominated phenolic derivatives 3,4-dihydroxybenzyl alcohol and 3,3',4,4'-tetrahydroxydiphenylmethane.

Tide data made during 1 year on the tide gauge near the Thusima Island (St. Izuhara) give energy spectra. The energy at Tsushima is greater in a period band between the inertial period and 100hrs. A simple analytical model shows that the energy observed corresponds to waves trapped on the extensive continental slope around Tsushima Island. These observations seem to be the first to clearly show the presence of trapped waves.
The intra-annual and interannual variations of total, high, middle, low clouds, and cloud forcing net solar radiation flux, cloud forcing net long-wave radiation flux, and SSTs over the tropical oceans are investigated with the use of ISCP D2, NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis for January 1983-December 1993. The intra-annual variation of total cloudiness is dominated by high and middle clouds in the western Pacific and central tropical oceans, the interannual variation of total cloudiness is also dominated by high and middle clouds in the central Pacific and Atlantic. The dominant intra-annual and interannual EOFs of total cloudiness have spatially coherent link with those SSTs. For the interannual EOFs, total cloudiness and SSTs are related to E1 nino-Southern Oscillation(ENSO). The second most important intra-annual EOFs of total cloudiness are related to Inter Tropical Convergence Zone(ITCZ). The third most important intra-annual EOFs show coherent relation in the western Pacific. The correlation analysis between cloud radiative effects and SSTs show spatially coherent relation over the tropical oceans even though cloud forcing cooling effect is much higher than heating effect.
Two cumaceans species, Eocuma amakusense $Gam{\hat{o}}$, 1967 and E. latum Calman, 1907, belonging to the family Bodotriidae are collected from the southern sea in Korea, and are redescribed. At the present, just one species belonging to the genus Eocuma, E. cf. hilgendorfi Marcusen, 1894 has been reported in Korea. Herein we add two Eocuma species to the Korean cumacean fauna and described them with full illustration contained new information of mouthparts. A key to the Korean Eocuma species is also provided.
Tidal power can use conventional technology to extract energy from the tides. It is usually best deployed in areas where there i s a high tical range which includes Western and Southern coastal areas in Korea. However, to extract tical energy, a barrage across an estuary or a bay is to be constructed that is now very hard due to severe environmental impact on local estuary. The recent technology of application of tidal stream provides a new window to extract power minimizing the adverse environmental impact Tidal stream technology which directly exploits these currents is relatively new but is presently generating considerable interest Turbine rotors can be used to extract energy from the flows. Prototype devices currently on test in the UK include the 300kW SeaFlow turbine. In this paper, the recent technology and research on ocean tical stream power are addressed
The volume transport and turnover time of the Deukryang Bay. located at the southern area of Korea, were calculated based on the current meter(RCM-7,ACM 16M) data observed at the three gateways of the tegrating observed data and then averaging on time. dangdo and Kogumdo. The total water volume transports through three entrances of the bay in May and October were $3.9{\times}10-2Sv, 3.4{\times}10^{-2}Sv(1Sv=10^6m^3s^{-1}$) and turnover time were 0.97day, 1.12day, respectively. Semidiurnal tides were predominant (70~85%). The water volume transports by residual currents were 2~4% of total water volume transports . The average fraction of fresh water calculated by tidal prism method using salinity difference between inflow current and outflow current through three entrances In Deukryang Bay was about 0.06% of total volume and the flushing time of fresh water was estimated as 0.97day.
