  • This study deals with underwater explosion (UNDEX) characteristics of various non-explosive underwater shock sources for the development of non-explosive underwater shock testing devices. UNDEX can neutralize ships' structure and the equipment onboard causing serious damage to combat and survivability. The shock proof performance of naval ships has been for a long time studied through simulations, but full-scale Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E) using real explosives have been limited due to the high risk and cost. For this reason, many researches have been tried to develop full scale ship shock tests without using actual explosives. In this study, experiments were conducted to find the characteristics of the underwater shock waves from actual explosive and non-explosive shock sources such as the airbag inflators and Vaporizing Foil Actuator (VFA). In order to derive the empirical equation for the maximum pressure value of the underwater shock wave generated by the non-explosive impact source, repeated experiments were conducted according to the number and distance. In addition, a Shock Response Spectrum (SRS) technique, which is a frequency-based function, was used to compare the response of floating bodies generated by underwater shock waves from each explosion source. In order to compare the magnitude of the underwater shock waves generated by each explosion source, Keel Shock Factor (KSF), which is a measure for estimating the amount of shock experienced by a naval ship from an underwater explosionan, was used.

  • Spread spectrum provides the minimized inter-symbol interference, the low probability of intercept and the multiple access capability. This paper presents a direct sequence spread spectrum with carrier/timing recovery and equalizer which compensates the delay spread caused by multipath transmission. When the sea trials were performed in Korean East Sea, the bit error rates of QPSK and direct sequence spread spectrum are $1.46{\times}10^{-2}$ and $5.17{\times}10^{-4}$ at 3 km source-receiver range, respectively.

  • Today, Internet service is a most important Information Source. So, the Power Line Communication has been achieved to offer Internet service to Last-Mile area. But, Power Line is not suitable for communication, So, electromagnetic wave is generated from Power Line during flow of communication information. And the electromagnetic wave is interfered with Wireless Communication Service using the same frequency range. In this paper, the Notch Filter and the Spectrum Sensing technology are proposed to reduction of interference between Power Line Communication and Wireless Communication Service. The Spectrum Sensing technology is the core technology of the Cognitive Radio (CR) system. CR is the technology that temporarily allocates the frequency bandwidth by scanning surrounding wireless environments to keep licensed terminals and search the unused frequency bandwidth. The proposed emulator is implemented with Spectrum Sensing and Notch Filter system using Embedded Board.

  • In this paper, a multi-hop relaying transmission scheme is analyzed regarding its feasibility and potentiality in the IEEE 802.22-based cognitive radio (CR) environment. Shortly, basic design issues are addressed such as relay station (RS) deployment and a frame structure of physical channel to escape inter-hop interference. This paper mainly develops a radio resource management scheme based on spectrum sensing results aggregated from CR secondary nodes and improves the opportunistic spectrum sharing efficiency. In particular, a decision rule about a channel availability is made using a distributed sensing method. Subsequently, spectrum allocation and routing path decision procedures are proposed to establish a link from source to destination with a hop-by-hop manner. Simulation results show that the proposed multi-hop relaying scheme is substantially profitable in CR environments if the number of hops and RS deployment are designed in such a way that the spectrum sharing gain is larger than spectrum division loss which is inherently induced in multi-hop relaying systems.

  • Interference mitigation is a significant issue in the cognitive heterogeneous networks, this paper studied how to reduce the interference to macrocell users (MU) and improve system throughput. Establish the interference model with imperfect spectrum sensing by analyzing the source of interference complexity. Based on the user topology, the optimize problem was built to maximize the downlink throughput under given interference constraint and the total power constraint. We decompose the resource allocation problem into subcarrier allocation and power allocation. In the subcarrier assignment step, the allocated number of subcarriers satisfies the requirement of the femtocell users (FU).Then, we designed the power allocation algorithm based on the Lagrange multiplier method and the improved water filling method. Simulation results and performance analyses show that the proposed algorithm causes less interference to MU than the algorithm without considering imperfect spectrum sensing, and the system achieves better throughput performance.

  • The unique compact radio source, Sgr $A^*$, at the Galactic center show many observational signs that it is powered by supermassive black hole. Recent observations also imply that it is surrounded by winds from nearby IR sources. So we explore the model in which multiwavelength spectrum from Sgr $A^*$ is due to the spherical accretion of these winds onto the central supermassive black hole. Improving upon the previous work, we allowed the possibility that ions and electrons have different temperatures, included the Compton effects and pair processes. Electrons radiate via cyclosynchrotron and bresstrahlung with comptoniztion. We find that ion approaches the virial temperature ${\sim}10^{13}K$ while electron temperature saturates at ${\sim}10^{10}K$. However, decoupling between ion and electron does not greatly affect the shape of the emission spectrum. When the mass of the black hole is ${\sim}10^6M_{\odot}$, radio, IR, X-ray, $\gamma$-ray band spectrum is reasonably explained by the model. Yet Compton effect which is neglected in previous works produces significant emission in IR band, which is marginally compatible with observations. Pair production is negligible and annihilation lines cannot be observed.

  • Recently, there has been a growing consumer interest in the amount of noise produced by household electrical appliances. The designer of the product must identify the source of the noise, in order to reduce the noise. In the case of a household electric appliance such as the washing machine, there is consumer's complaint about the noise that is generated during the dehydrating condition. Because of several noise sources combined each other. It is difficult to identify the noise sources that contribute to the noise output. Multi-Dimensional Spectral Analysis (MDSA) is a method that can remove the correlation between different noise sources, and it expresses the key contributing factor as a unique output. This study utilized MDSA to analyze the contribution of each input in the noise output during the dehydrating condition.

  • Heavy-weight floor impact noise is directly related to the impact source and floor vibration property. Dynamic properties of the standard floating floor that is used in Korea was investigated using accelerance, acceleration energy spectral density(ESD), and structural modal test. In the standard floating floor, natural frequency was decreased by the finishing mortar mass and the damping ratio was increased. Bang-machine force spectrum acting on the concrete slab can be calculated using inverse system analysis. Impact force acting on concrete slab is changed by interaction of finishing mortar and resilient material. The amplitude of the bang-machine force spectrum was amplified in low frequency range(below 100 Hz), and over 100 Hz was decreased. Changed force spectrum influence to the response of structure vibration, so the heavy-weight floor impact noise level was changed.

  • Microwave diagnostics method for plasma science and engineering is vigorous research area for its good characteristics such as high sensitivity, reliability, and broad measurement spectrum from low density plasma to high density. We investigate mechanism of microwave probes (hairpin, impedance and absorbtionf probe) and apply it for interpretation of full transmitted spectrum of cutoff probe. Mechanism of the spectrum having same key roles of I-V curve of Langmuir probe is not exactly revealed yet in spite of its importance. This study elucidates physics behind it using a circuit model and E/M wave simulation. Circuit model reveals exact cut-off peak frequency taking account of a collision frequency and a plasma frequency and it enable precise diagnostics of plasma densty from low pressure to high pressre. Cut-off like peaks have been obstacle for choosing cut-off peak is analyzed by E/M simulation and one of cutoff like peaks made by probe holder used for acquire plasma density with cutoff peak applying the hairpin relation. Furthermore, phase difference method for plasma density is conducted. This method uses a single microwave frequency source and it is low-priced.

  • We suggest that supercontinuum can be used for absorption spectroscopy to observe the exciton levels of a semiconductor nano-structure. Exciton absorption spectrum of a GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well was observed using supercontinuum generated by a microstructrured fiber pumped by a femtosecond (fs) pulsed laser. Significantly narrower peaks were observed in the absorption spectrum from 11 K up to room temperature than photoluminescence (PL) spectrum peaks. Because supercontinuum is coherent light and can readily provide high enough intensity, this method can provide a coherent ultra-broad band light source to identify exciton levels in semiconductors, and be applicable to coherent nonlinear spectroscopy such as electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), lasing without inversion (LWI) and coherent photon control in semiconductor quantum structures.
