Sound quality is becoming the major concern in passenger vehicle. The study on it has been done recently but it is not good enough. In order to improve the sound quality in passenger vehicle, so many noise sources must be considered and human feeling to the noise also be taken into account. In this paper, the sound quality was analyzed by vehicle road test which was carried out with varying the traveling speed. As basic factors for sound quality, only objective factors are considered such as loudness, sharpness, speech intelligibility, sound pressure level ... etc. The relations between sound pressure level and other factors are discussed from a point of view of traveling speed dependency. The frequency dependency of sound quality factor is also analyzed by frequency analysis.

This study is about the effect of the sound pressure level of reverberation on stage acoustics. There are several electro-acoustics systems to enhance the room acoustics of concert hails but not many studies on the stage acoustics for the musicians who plays on the stages. To investigate the effect of reverberation on stage acoustics, the reverberation time of a test room has been controlled through a 4 channel speaker system, and the preferred reverberation level has been selected by performing musicians. As a result, the sound pressure level of reverberation seems to affect the perception of stage acoustics which motivates musicians' performances.
The test and evaluation of floor impact sound is mainly conducted before move in the residence. Floor impact sound generating is actually the conditions in which a heavy load like a curtain and furniture is installed, the situation before and after move in the residence is different. In this study, we investigate the floor impact sound variations according to the live load installation like furniture in the source room. The vibration acceleration level and floor impact sound level variation were measured before and after live load ($200kg/m^2$) installation in the floor impact sound test building and the field. The difference was not large although the vibration acceleration level and the floor impact sound level were reduced through measurement result of load installation. Resonance frequency was not changed by load installation.
Standard sound source currently used in heavy-weight floor impact sounds that cause many social problems has excessive low-frequency energy within a range from 63 Hz to 125 Hz, and is difficult to evaluate and measure. To solve these problems, studies are widely performed using a new impact source, the impact ball. In this study, the sound fields in a receiving room were compared and analyzed according to the current impact source, the bang machine, and the impact ball. And deviation of sound pressure level according to the impact source positions were compared. In case of impact ball, the sound pressure level was lower at 63 Hz and below and higher at 125 Hz and above. The same trend was observed at the low-frequency range on the horizontal and vertical planes, regardless of the type of the impact source, which showed the influence of the room mode. There was a problem with the variations in the sound pressure level according to the size or shape of the receiving room. And it also shows that change of source positions may effect the single number rating scheme.
Loss of postural balance can possibly lead to increased risk of slips and falls in work places. Present study was performed to investigate the effects of noisy environments on postural stability during standing. It is known that a sound is characterized by the frequency and pressure level of the sound. Therefore, effects of the frequency and pressure level on postural stability were of primary concern. Ten male subjects participated in the experiment. Subject's center of pressure(COP) position was collected on a force plate while they were exposed to different frequency and pressure levels of the sound. Measured COP was then converted into the length of postural sway path in both anterior-posterior(AP) and medio-lateral(ML) axis. Results showed that the length of sway path in AP axis was significantly affected by the frequency of sound. The length of sway path was lowest at frequency level of 2000Hz and increased below and above this frequency range. The sound pressure level, however, did not significantly affect the postural sway length in both AP and ML axis. The results imply that industrial workers in noisy environments should be aware that their abilities of postural balance can be disturbed significantly.

The accurate measurement of the room sound level is required in environment noise control. However, it has been found that the measurement system noise always corrupts the actual noise from the sound source. In this study, a new sound level measurement technique in which the system noise is eliminated from the measured signal by the cross spectrum method, is proposed. The received signals of two measuring microphones are recorded to DAT through the pre-amplifier and digitized by A/D converter. The cross spectrum calculated from the digitized signals gives the accurate sound level since the system noise is uncorrelated with the sound source noise which we want to measure. The performance of the proposed technique is verified experimentally to be effective and the technique is found to be economic since the low cost general purpose microphone could be used in this technique.
PURPOSES: The purpose of this study is to research the influence of road traffic noise by road slope through the analysis of the field road traffic noise and determine consideration of road slope in the case of appling active noise cancellation. METHODS: This study measures vehicle's noise by the NCPX method at the three field sections such as uphill, downhill, and flatland. Total sound pressure and sound pressure level by the 1/3 octave band frequency are calculated through the raw field data. Total sound pressure level is compared by ANOVA test and T test statistically. The results obtained are compared in accordance with the road slope and the progress of the uphill section. RESULTS : The noise characteristic of early, medium, and last parts of uphill was found to be consistent when the vehicle was travelling uphill section. The result of statistical test, it was shown that total sound pressures are not different each other. According to the comparison by the geometry, sound pressure of the uphill section was higher than those of the flatland and downhill section in high frequency band. By the result of statistical test, total sound pressure are different according to geometry in the case of high vehicle speed. In the comparison result by road slope, each sound pressure level was found to be consistent in total frequency. However, total sound pressure proportionally increased according to road slope. CONCLUSIONS: It is found that the effect of road slope on noise generation was little in this experimental sites.

Impact noise is induced in a car when it is driven on a harsh road or over some bumps. This noise occurs with the very high level of sound, which affects passengers in some way or other. Although it is impossible to clearly remove such noise, it is necessary to research an improvement in sound quality for impact noise. A new sound metric for impact sound is presented. This metric is verified by comparison between mean subjective ratings and several sound metrics. In this paper, more objective attributes are considered, which the attributes are expressing the level and modulation of sound. Three sound metrics are employed to get impact sound indexes for each course by the method of multiple linear regressions. The indexes are verified by considering the correlation between the estimated values from the multiple linear regressions and the mean subjective ratings by evaluators. Also, the subjective ratings on the indexes are estimated for the case in which some parts of suspension system are changed. The estimated ratings represent more reasonable or acceptable ratings. Thus, such indexes can be used for modification of the parts of suspension system under considering a good sound quality.

This study aims to investigate the preferred sound level of water sound for various levels of open-plan-office noise regarding soundscape quality and speech privacy. And assessment of the work efficiency of the water sound. For the laboratory experiment, office noise was recorded using a binaural microphone in a real open-plan office. For the assessment of the soundscape quality and speech privacy, Overall Soundscape Quality (OSQ) and Listening Difficulty (LD) were evaluated under three different sound levels (55 dBA, 60 dBA, and 65 dBA) and five different signal-to-noise ratios (SNR -10 dB, -5 dB, 0 dB, +5 dB, and +10 dB). After the evaluation, the preferred SNR was proposed according to OSQ and LD. For the assessment of to work efficiency of water sound, this study evaluated the cognitive performance of both of the condition noise only and combine the water sound with office noise. The results showed that LD increased as the water sound level increased, but OSQ decreased. When the water sound level was more than the office noise level, the OSQ decreased from noise only. Therefore, considering OSQ and LD, the preferred SNR of water sound was -5 dB for all noise levels. At the preferred level of water sound, the cognitive performance results were shown to decrease at 55 dBA compared to noise only, but at 60 dBA and 65 dBA combine the water sound results were increased than the noise only.
An automated calibration system of sound level meters was developed and tested. As a standard sound source, the speaker unit(Forstex FE208) cabineted by 440$\times$390$\times$490 $\textrm{mm}^3$(LHW) volume wood box was adopted. Including this source, the driving part was found out to have a good linearity of sound pressure output vs AC voltage input. The Hybrid-Bisect/Newton-Raphson method modified by the linearity was adopted as a searching algorithm. Uisng GPIB interface, the console PC make the control, measurements, and calculations and finally make the accumulation of useful data and results automatically by the instructon in the program coded by C languate. Several trials of automatic calibration using this developed system give the reliable results.
