  • The preferred dimensions of the test opening for a window are $1250mm{\times}1500mm$ according to ISO 10140-1:2010. But tests done at actual size generally because not standardized for windows. In this study, we know the sound insulation characteristics by the size of windows using the single windows and double windows, consider the more effective performance evaluation method.

  • In a railway vehicle, corrugated steel panel is widely used for the floor panel because of its high bending stiffness and light weight. However, this panel shows lower sound insulation performance than that of the plate with the same weight. Especially, in a particular frequency band, transmission loss (TL) rapidly decreases and it results in the deterioration of TL of the overall floor panel. This study identifies that the remarkable drop in TL is caused from the local resonance of the periodic corrugated structure. This study shows that the frequency band of the TL drop can be controlled by the proper design of the corrugated structure. In addition, improvement effect of TL by attaching foam and glass wool is estimated by experiment. The purpose of the study is to provide the practical information for the improvement of the sound insulation performance of the corrugated steel.

  • The research and development in soundproof materials for preventing noise have attracted great attention due to their social impact. Noise insulation materials are especially important in the field of soundproofing. Since the insulation ability of most materials follows a mass rule, the heavy weight materials like concrete, lead and steel board are mainly used in the current noise insulation materials. To overcome some weak points in these materials, fiber reinforced composite materials with lightweight and other high performance characteristics are now being used. In this paper, innovative insulation sheet materials with carbon and/or glass fabrics and nano-silica hybrid PU resin are developed. The parameters related to sound performance, such as materials and fabric texture in base fabric, hybrid method of resin, size of silica particle and so on, are investigated. At the same time, the wave analysis code (PZFlex) is used to simulate some of experimental results. As a result, it is found that both bundle density and fabric texture in the base fabrics play an important role on the soundproof performance. Compared with the effect of base fabrics, the transmission loss in sheet materials increased more than 10 dB even though the thickness of the sample was only about 0.7 mm. The results show different values of transmission loss factor when the diameters of silica particles in coating materials changed. It is understood that the effect of the soundproof performance is different due to the change of hybrid method and the size of silica particles. Fillers occupying appropriate positions and with optimum size may achieve a better effect in soundproof performance. The effect of the particle content on the soundproof performance is confirmed, but there is a limit for the addition of the fillers. The optimization of silica content for the improvement of the sound insulation effect is important. It is observed that nano-particles will have better effect on the high soundproof performance. The sound insulation effect has been understood through a comparison between the experimental and analytical results. It is confirmed that the time-domain finite wave analysis (PZFlex) is effective for the prediction and design of soundproof performance materials. Both experimental and analytical results indicate that the developed materials have advantages in lightweight, flexibility, other mechanical properties and excellent soundproof performance.

  • Recently, framed structure is increasingly being used as apartment structure due to the advantages during remodeling. Therefore, the use of lightweight panel as separating wall is increasing. To construct lightweight panel structures with sound insulation performance appropriate to the conditions of each field, measurement of sound reduction index(SRI) through panel structures should be performed. In this study, measurement of SRI through 46 kinds of panel structures was performed in the condition of various factors such as surface density, air space and absorber. The result showed that SRI of panel structures was generally higher by increasing of surface density. In the case of double panel with no absorber, SRI at below critical frequency was gradually increased according to rise of air space. Double panel with absorber make remarkable improvement in SRI at low frequency, but there is a little difference compared with SRI of double panel with no absorber over critical frequency.

  • This paper deals with the experimental for manufacturing the lightweight buildng materials with portland cement, fly ash, slag, lime, gypsum, and aluminum powder system. Aluminum powder was added an aerating agent. Specific gravity range of lightweight concrete specimens were 0.6~0.9g/cm3. These specimens properties studied by means of specific gravity, compressive strength, absorption coefficient, transmission loss and scanning electron microscopy. Cellular concrete with maximum compressive strength was 41kgf/cm2 by obtained Al=0.05wt.%. Moreover, the aeration lightweight concrete showed excellent sound absorption properties.

  • Sound transmission characteristics are investigated on the corrugated steel and aluminium extruded panels used for railway vehicles. Sewell-Sharp-Cremer(SSC) model, equivalent orthotropic plate model and equivalent mass law are applied to predict the sound transmission loss. The predicted values of the sound transmission loss are compared with the measured values. The reliability and the limitation of the prediction models are investigated. For the corrugated panels and honeycomb panels, the coincidence and local resonance severely deteriorate the sound insulation performance around the corresponding frequency bands. The result of the study shows that the equivalent orthotropic plate model and the SSC model can be used as good prediction models, if the coincidence frequency or local resonance frequency is correctly applied.

  • This paper is contents about method to measure interception performance of shock noise of floor slab of apartment house to be simple. In the case of interception performance of light floor impact sound level, according to measurement method, grade of sound insulation performance showed greatly differently. But, in the case of interception performance of heavy floor impact sound level, it was similar result in all measurement method. Therefore, use of simple method of measurement was examined by possible fact in case of interception performance of heavy floor impact sound level.

  • In this paper, the interface matrix of honeycomb composite panel has been derived by the governing equation of a honeycomb sandwich panel. The interface matrix of honeycomb panel is added to the previously developed transfer matrix method, thus analysis of the multi-layered insulation composite panel with honeycomb is accomplished. Furthermore, predictions of sound transmission loss(STL) for the ship's insulation panel with honeycomb and mineral wool are presented. The insulation performance of the honeycomb used for skin of the ship's insulation panel is better than that of 0.35 mm steel panel by 2dB, approximately. Although honeycomb panel has inefficient insulation performance beside steel panel, honeycomb panel achieve improvements in the performance of weight reduction. The surface density of the panel with honeycomb is rather than with steel by $5.2kg/m^2$. It is decrease in weight by 31.7 %.

  • Korean traditional houses have been developed in sympathy with natural environment and formed comfortable indoor condition by properly using surrounding natural resources including building layout, space construction and material. Or traditional wooden windows adjusting ambient temperature and humidity have both the functions of window and door, although they are clearly divided in the West. While window paper is attached from the outside in China and Japan, it is attached from the inside in Korea. The opening and closing mode of windows is similar and their dimensions are shown not to be standardized but diverse in terms of the characteristic of wooden furniture and that of components placed between columns. Thus this study is to look into the performance of band-lattice door of a typical traditional one by observing changes in sound insulation characteristics according to difference in thickness and finishing method of window paper and those in sound insulation characteristics with the changed thickness of air layer in traditional windows and doors.
