  • The accurate measurement of the room sound level is required in environment noise control. However, it has been found that the measurement system noise always corrupts the actual noise from the sound source. In this study, a new sound level measurement technique in which the system noise is eliminated from the measured signal by the cross spectrum method, is proposed. The received signals of two measuring microphones are recorded to DAT through the pre-amplifier and digitized by A/D converter. The cross spectrum calculated from the digitized signals gives the accurate sound level since the system noise is uncorrelated with the sound source noise which we want to measure. The performance of the proposed technique is verified experimentally to be effective and the technique is found to be economic since the low cost general purpose microphone could be used in this technique.

  • In environment of torpedo firing, underwater acoustic signal is generated by target and noise. Sound wave which is generated from acoustic signal is propagated by seawater and it is received through the sonar(sound navigation and ranging) system mounted on torpedo. In the ocean, acoustic signal or sound wave from target that is generated by the spread of broadband can be attenuated by ambient noise and can be lost by medium and environment. This research is designed to support teamwork training in Naval operations by constructing a simulation system that is more similar to the real-world conditions. This paper attempts to research the modeling of target detection and to develop the simulation of torpedo sonar(TOSO). In order to develop the realistic simulation, we researched the broadband sound modeling of target and noise source, the modeling of acoustic transmission loss by chemical component of seawater, and the modeling of signal attenuation by ambient noise environment which is approximated by experimental measurements in seawater surrounding the Korea Peninsular and by experience of Navy's actual torpedo firing. This research contributed to constructing more practical simulation of torpedo firing in real time and the results of this research were used to develop a teamwork training system for the Navy and their education.

  • Recently human beings are enforcing marine investigations to extend their living environment from land to the sea. Therefore, this study grasped objects in the bottom of the sea and its topographical undulation and acquired topographic map with a sound detector. In result, This study acquired their images with a sound detector and can draw up a Drawing of Sea Mapping and a three-dimensional modeling map.

  • In this paper, we implement a PDA(Personal Digital Assistant)-based audiometric system in order to estimate hearing threshold by adopting both pure-tone sound and speech audiometric test system. To estimate a subject's hearing threshold in an ambulatory audiometric test environment, an efficient sound calibration scheme between a PDA and a headphone device is proposed by appling polynomial fitting algorithms in 8-banded frequency ranges.

  • It is increasing the interest on the comfortable dwelling environment, while sound Insulation performance of materials and elements used in building is falling down as they become thicker and lighter. Therefore, sound insulation performance in building has become the most important factor determining the level of housing, especially for apartment that has common wall and floor with next neighbors. This paper aims to experiment the sound insulation characteristics of floor coverings as their types and to analyse their noise reduction effect.

  • In this study, the sensitivity of annoyance was investigated by the subjective jury test for the variations of the frequency components along with various sound pressure levels of sixteen environmental noise sources. Annoyance was, also, evaluated for the road traffic noises. Sound pressure levels were $54{\sim}84\;dB$ which individually divided frequency components with eight bands of equally three bark bands. The results show that vehicle traffic noise is recognized as the most serious environment noise source. The sensitivity of human perception of annoyance in frequency bands is quite different from A-weighting curve. The annoyance found out to be more sensitive in high frequency region and reached its maximum in 3.4 kHz.

  • Currently, there are various sounds in the urban surrounding environment such as natural, human, mechanical or sound, etc., and these urban environmental sounds remain in several memories according to magnitude, repetition, learning and experience of sounds. However, there are limitations in memorizing these environmental sounds, thus they are forgotten or reminded, or replaced with new ones from time to time. This study was attempted to look into the changes of the memory of noisiness annoyance and sharpness of the suggested sound sources with urban environmental sounds as time goes by and the order of memorization of the sound sources.

  • In this study, we present an efficient ambulatory speech audiometric system to detect one's hearing problems at an earlier stage as possible without his or her visit to the audiometric testing facility such in a hospital or a clinic. To estimate a person's hearing threshold level in terms of speech sound response in his or her local environment, a digital assistant(PDA) device is used to generate the speech sound with implementing audiometric Graphic User Interface(GUI) system. Furthermore, a supra-aural earphone is used to measure a subject's hearing threshold level in terms of speech sound by the compensating the transducer's gain by adopting speech sound calibration system.

  • Urban sound environments consists of various sound sources such as traffic noise, sounds of people and natural sounds affecting the perception of soundscape in a place. However, noise maps based on sound pressure levels could not distinguish different sound sources and limited to represent perception of acoustic environments. Accordingly, soundscape map based on perception of sounds is necessary to provide useful information for the description of the acoustic environment. Therefore, the aims of this study are to examine soundscape perception in different urban contexts including commercial, office, park and residential spaces and to suggest a method for soundscape maps using GIS techniques. Soundscape perceptions and physical characteristics of acoustic environments at various urban contexts were obtained from surveys and acoustic measurements, respectively. The results show that dominant factors affecting soundscape perceptions were different in urban contexts and spatial variations of urban soundscape are closely related to various urban contexts.
