  • Booming sound is one of the most important interior sound of a passenger car. The conventional booming noise research was focused on the reduction of the A-weighted sound pressure level. However A-weighted sound pressure level can not give the whole story about the booming sound of a passenger car.   • With the advent of sound field simulator, many sound fields have been reproduced by obtaining the impulse responses of specific acoustic spaces like famous concert hall, opera house. This sound field reproduction has been done by the linear convolution operation between the sound input signal and the impulse response of certain acoustic space. However, the conventional finite impulse response based linear convolution operation always makes real-time implementation of sound field generator impossible due to the large amount of computational burden. This paper introduces the fast convolution method using perceptual redundancy in the processed signals, input audio signal and room impulse response. Temporal and spectral psycho-acoustic filters considering masking effects are implemented in the proposed convolution structure. It reduces the computational burden of convolution methods for realtime implementation of a sound field generator. The conventional convolutions are compared with the proposed one in views of computational burden and sound quality. In the proposed method, a considerable reduction in the computational burden was realized with acceptable changes in sound quality.

하이브리드형 초음파 스피커 개발 (Development of the hybrid-type ultrasound speaker)

  • 소리에 방향성을 부여하여 특정 영역에서만 소리를 들을 수 있도록 활용되는 초음파 스피커는 일반 스피커와 비교하여 음질 및 비용적인 이슈에서 다양한 개선 연구가 지속적으로 이루어지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 초음파 스피커의 센서 특성상 500 Hz 미만 저음 구현이 어려운 점을 감안하여 500 Hz 대의 소리를 보완할 수 있도록 일반 스피커와 동시 사용이 가능한 DSP 기반의 하이브리드형 초음파 스피커를 제안한다. 일반 스피커와 초음파 스피커의 단순 연결로 각각의 분리 처리 및 송출하는 시스템은 초음파 재생성 처리 시간 차에 따른 음질저하뿐만 아니라 일반 음원과 초음파 음원이 2개의 앰프로 구동되어 높은 비용 이슈가 있으며 제반 제어적인 측면에서도 어려움이 있다. 이러한 점을 개선하고자 제안한 DSP 기반의 앰프에서 Dynamic Range Control(DRC) 및 Equalizer(EQ)의 기존 코덱 기능은 물론, 초음파 음원으로의 재생성, 일반/초음파 음원을 동기화함으로써 동시 재생이 가능한 하이브리드형 초음파 스피커를 개발하였다.

  • The reduction of the Vehicle interior noise has been the main interest of NVH engineers. The driver's perception on the vehicle noise is affected largely by psychoacoustic characteristic of the noise as well as the SPL. In particular, the HVAC sound among the vehicle interior noise has been reflected sensitively in the side of psychology. In previous study, we have developed to verify identification of source for the vehicle HVAC system through multiple-dimensional spectral analysis. Also we carried out objective assessments on the vehicle HVAC noises and subjective assessments have been already performed with 30 subjects. In this study, the linear regression models were obtained for the subjective evaluation and the sound quality metrics. The regression procedure also allows you to produce diagnostic statistics to evaluate the regression estimates including appropriation and accuracy. Appropriation of regression model is necessary to $R^2$ value and F-value. And testing for regression model is necessary to Independence, Homoscedesticity and Normality. Also we selected optimum layout of damping material using Taguchi method. As a result of application, sound quality is improved by more quiet, powerful, expensive, smooth.

한국어 음성합성기의 성능 향상을 위한 합성 단위의 유무성음 분리 (Separation of Voiced Sounds and Unvoiced Sounds for Corpus-based Korean Text-To-Speech)

  • Predicting the right prosodic elements is a key factor in improving the quality of synthesized speech. Prosodic elements include break, pitch, duration and loudness. Pitch, which is realized by Fundamental Frequency (F0), is the most important element relating to the quality of the synthesized speech. However, the previous method for predicting the F0 appears to reveal some problems. If voiced and unvoiced sounds are not correctly classified, it results in wrong prediction of pitch, wrong unit of triphone in synthesizing the voiced and unvoiced sounds, and the sound of click or vibration. This kind of feature is usual in the case of the transformation from the voiced sound to the unvoiced sound or from the unvoiced sound to the voiced sound. Such problem is not resolved by the method of grammar, and it much influences the synthesized sound. Therefore, to steadily acquire the correct value of pitch, in this paper we propose a new model for predicting and classifying the voiced and unvoiced sounds using the CART tool.

차량 배기토출음 음질분석에 대한 연구 (A Study on Sound Quality of Exhaust Tail-pipe Noise of Vehicle)

  • Recently, creating a signature sound for a brand has become more important in the automotive industry. It is important to remember that the people inside a vehicle are not the only one, who assess the signature sound, exhaust sound has become a more important factor. Most research has used psycho-acoustic parameter to objectively measure the aesthetic qualities of exhaust sound. However, these results do not parallel the results from subjective analysis. Therefore, this research focused on developing a method for objective quantification to assess the aesthetic qualities of exhaust sound in order to help develop a more appealing signature sound. To do so, the actual exhaust sound was synthesized and subjectively assessed at varied frequencies samples of 30 individuals employed at sejong R&D center. The results were analyzed using the science of harmony scale.

  • This study investigates objective and subjective evaluations of refrigerator noise. To describe the fluctuations like a click, a rapid increase of sound level, a change of pitch, a transition into the stationary and ending phase, the psychoacoustical and autocorrelation function(ACF) parameters have been employed. First, subjective evaluation of the noisiness of 24 kinds of refrigerators was conducted. Then, the relationship between objective measures of the refrigerator noise on perceived noisiness was examined with multiple regression analyses. Sound Quality Indices using the psychoacoustical and ACF parameters were also developed. The important psychoacoustical parameters for evaluating noisiness are loudness and roughness of stationary phase. The relationship between the noisiness and the ACF parameters shows that sound energy ${\Phi}(0)$ and its fluctuations are important. Also, refrigerator sounds that had a fluctuation of pitch were rated as more annoying. The fluctuation of pitch is expressed by ${\tau}_1\;and\;{\Phi}_1$ defined by the delay time and the amplitude of the first peak of the ACF.
