  • In this paper, we introduce an improved sorting method of the IGIC(Improved initial stage Grouping Interference Canceller) system for advanced BER(Bit Error Rate) performance in DS-CDMA. Among non liner Interference Cancellers, the PIC(Parallel IC) with advanced initial stage by sorting method has the name of the IGIC(Improved initial stage Grouping Interference Canceller) system. In this system, All group are shared with the same number of users. But, if each group are divided the same users, so that difference of the signals strength appeared greatly in the same group. Up to this time, the weak signals have more effect of the MAI (Multiple Access Interference) from the strong signals in the same group. The proposed IC (Interference Canceller) to solve those problems has a better performance by using improved sorting method from IGIC system. A new sorting method is the technique that the strength of signals would be liked in the same group. So, the MAI is reduced as difference of signal strength minimize. Analysis of performance assayed to make comparison with other non liner interference canceller when power controlled and not one.

  • In this study, a small portable sorting pilot for separation that can be used in dismantling construction site, which is the stage of construction waste generation, was developed, and its separation efficiency was evaluated to increase the actual recycling rate of the construction waste. The pilot was developed as portable sorting pilot for separation of 6 ton capacity that can handle one arm roll box within a $15m^2$ area in consideration of narrow places in the downtown area where a number of dismantling sites are located and various processes performed in the dismantling sites. In order to evaluate the efficiency performance of the developed device, the separation and sorting were carried out ten times with respect to trommel rotational speed RPM 2-3, 4-6 and 7-8. According to the results, the highest efficiency of about 90% was shown at RPM 6-7.

  • The objective of this study was to explore the current market of instant mulnaengmyeon broths by understanding product perceptions, using the sorting task followed by a description task. Fourteen instant mulnaengmyeon broths that were available in the market were used in the study. The sorting task was performed by 29 subjects, with some of them having prior experience as trained descriptive panelists. The results of this study showed that unless the sample had a very distinctive ingredient in its broth, commercially available mulnaengmyeon broths were mainly divided into products that are likely to be familiar to public versus products that are less exposed. In addition, concentrated broths were shown to possess characteristics that were different from those of other samples. The inclusion of subjects who had experience as trained panelists allowed to partially overcome the problem of validity of the terms derived from naive consumers.

  • Seafood is attracting attention as a future food industry. In recent years, the demand for fishery equipment of mechanization, automation, and unmanned was increased due to the environment affected by seafood processing, stricter regulations on safety, decline and aging of fishery worker. Ark shell (Scapharca subcrenata) was being produced in many steps in the production process. The process has been made such as collection-landing-washing-first sort (goods/non-goods)-transports-second sort (size). It was undergone first and second steps by delivering to the consumer. Here, the first step is to sort goods to collection and the second step is to sort by size. The fishery workers need ten people in first step and six people in second step. The workload of one hour per kg is 4,247 kg/h in first step and 2,213 kg/h in second step. In addition, the goods ratio by work process was 79% in first step and 98% in the second step. In this process, a lot of fishery worker and working time is needed. Therefore, this study developed elemental techniques for an automated size sorting system considering the working process problem, time and situation for washing and sorting of ark shell.

  • A real-time digital time-stamp sorting algorithm used in the In-Beam positron emission tomography (In-Beam PET) is presented. The algorithm is operated in the field programmable gate array (FPGA) and a small amount of registers, MUX and memory cells are used. It is developed for sorting the data of annihilation event from front-end circuits, so as to identify the coincidence events efficiently in a large amount of data. In the In-Beam PET, each annihilation event is detected by the detector array and digitized by the analog to digital converter (ADC) in Data Acquisition Unit (DAQU), with a resolution of 14 bits and sampling rate of 50 MS/s. Test and preliminary operation have been implemented, it can perform a sorting operation under the event count rate up to 1 MHz per channel, and support four channels in total, count rate up to 4 MHz. The performance of this algorithm has been verified by pulse generator and 22Na radiation source, which can sort the events with chaotic order into chronological order completely. The application of this algorithm provides not only an efficient solution for selection of coincidence events, but also a design of electronic circuit with a small-scale structure.

  • Peach is a typical summer fruit which can be used for various food, processed food, and fragrance ingredients in Korea. Peach is also known as one of serious allergens which make difficulty for farm workers during peach sorting operations. After peach harvesting, it moves to the sorting operations for removing cover material, removing fuzz on peach surface, sorting by size, and packing. The air-samplers and optical particle counters were used to analyze the characteristics of fine dust generation by location and operation characteristics in the experimental peach farms. During removing peach fuzz, the dust concentrations were increased by 6.89 times on total suspended particulate (TSP), 2.13 times on PM-10 (particulate matter), and 1.30 times on PM-2.5 compared to non-working periods, respectively. During removing peach covering materials, the dust concentrations were increased by 3.14 times on TSP, 1.91 times on PM-10, and 1.43 times on PM-2.5 compared to non-working periods, respectively. This represents peach fuzz can be affected to farm workers during peach sorting operations.

  • Microfluidics and BioMEMStechnology has increasingly been used as a tool for studying small volumes oftissue and even individual cells. One of the most important benefits ofmicrofluidic technology is the potential to build devices that analyze and sortmammalian cells. The "sorting problem" typically requires that a fewcells be selected and isolated from a larger population of hundreds, thousandsor even millions of other cells. For example, cancer tumor cells may resideamong a large population of healthy cells, but it would be of great interest toidentify, isolate and study only the cancer cells. In another application, onemay want to determine the number of white blood cells within a sample of blood. We have developed microfluidic devices that enable researchers to select cellsfrom a population by a variety of methods, including antibody staining, dielectrophoretic selection, and physical size selection. These devices haveapplications in cancer research where cancer cells must be identified fromnormal tissue, but where only small samples of tissue are available. In thistalk, we will present some of our microfluidic cell sorting devices, discusstheir physical principles, and their use in biological applications.

  • In this article, we suggest a two-dimensional genetic algorithm (GA) method that applies a cognitive radio (CR) decision engine which determines the optimal transmission parameters for multicarrier communication systems. Because a CR is capable of sensing the previous environmental communication information, CR decision engine plays the role of optimizing the individual transmission parameters. In order to obtain the allowable transmission power of multicarrier based CR system demands interference analysis a priori, for the sake of efficient optimization, a two-dimensionalGA structure is proposed in this paper which enhances the computational complexity. Combined with the fitness objective evaluation standard, we focus on two multi-objective optimization methods: The conventional GA applied with the multi-objective fitness approach and the non-dominated sorting GA with Pareto-optimal sorting fronts. After comparing the convergence performance of these algorithms, the transmission power of each subcarrier is proposed as non-interference emission with its optimal values in multicarrier based CR system.
