Location Efficiencies of Host Countries for Strategic Offshoring Decisions Amid Wealth Creation Opportunities and Supply Chain Risks

  • Purpose - Offshoring has emerged as one of the major trends in international trade and has become one of the strategies for achieving competitiveness in the global market. In spite of this, the expected gains of offshoring can be offset by hidden costs and risks, such as those associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the trade war between the USA and China, and the ongoing trade dispute between Korea and Japan. To obviate such business failure and prevent critical business blunders, offshoring strategies that efficiently consider both risk elements and potential wealth creation are urgently need. The first purpose of this study is to contribute to the development of more advanced offshoring strategies to help host countries select the best locations to manage supply chain risks and create unique value. The second purpose is to specifically analyze the current status of Korea and provide Korean companies with implications to be considered when deciding whether to offshore or re-shore. Design/methodology - A Network DEA model was applied to measure the comparative location efficiency of national competencies for offshoring strategy from perspectives of wealth creation opportunities (profitability and marketability) and supply chain risk management. The location efficiencies are compared among a total 70 countries selected from the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) and globally attractive locations outlined by Kearney (2017). For the secondary analysis of efficiency, a t-test examining the nature of competitive advantage and the level of sophistication in production processes was implemented in three divisions. We then analyzed differences in offshoring performance in terms of the identified national traits. Moreover, Tobit regression analysis is conducted to investigate the correlation between value-added business activities and each divisional efficiency, seeking to determine how each degree of value-added business activity influences the increase in offshoring productivity. Findings - Regarding overall location efficiency for offshoring performance, only the USA and Italy were identified as being efficient as host countries for offshoring, under circumstances of advanced development, such as productivity and risk management. Korea ranks 13th among 70 countries. The determinants of national competitiveness depend on national traits (the nature of competitive advantage and business sophistication). Countries with labor/resource advantages and labor-intensive industries are more competitive in terms of marketability than others. In contrast, countries with strong technology-intensive industries benefit offshoring companies, particularly in the technology sector, with the added advantage of supply chain risk management. As the perception of a value chain is broader in a country, it can achieve both production sophistication and competitive advantages such as marketability and SCRM. Originality/value - Existing studies focus on offshoring effectiveness from a company perspective. This paper contributes to comparing country efficiency in producing core competencies related to an offshoring strategy and also segments countries into three performance-based considerations associated with the global offshoring market. It also details Korea's position as an offshoring location according to national efficiency and competency.

  • Improvement of productivity becomes more and more important issue in today's industries due to the domestic and exterior requirements, but most of small to medium size companies can not positively be cope with such situation. Main reasons are considered to be the difficulties of assembly planning arising from the variety and sophistication of products and the lack of planning experiences. In this study it was intended to show how to establish assembly plans with individual planning functions required in a manufacturing company.

  • Based upon previous research, factors affecting office productivity with the Accounting Information Systems(AIS) were suggested, and the relationships between the factors and the office productivity with the AIS were hypothesized. The empirical results suggested that there are significant positive relationships between the factors such as the user participation, level of AIS utilization, internal AIS development and AIS technical sophistication and the office productivity with the AIS. According to the results, the office productivity increasing strategy with the AIS were proposed.

  • In other side the recent construction industry is a skyscraper, a large scale and a sophistication, a construct site have many problems that an aging of worker and shortage of work force. The purpose of this study was to develop the location of tower crane and the simulation technology of tover crane. The automation of tower carne is a important component in skyscrapers. Specially, this study suggested that it was to develop the exact location system through GPS(Global Positioning System) better than former times.

  • Recently, Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) has been attempting to modernize the review processes for generic drug products. Obviously, the modernization effort will lead to harmonize the guidelines in the process to the internationally acceptable level. In general, the Korean version of abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) consisted of similarly to those in developed countries (viz, specifications for bulk drug/preparation, bioequivalence, and stability); However, there exists a significant gap in the sophistication of the guidelines between the Korean version and those in the other countries.   • 급속하게 변화하는 오늘날의 시장은 혁신적이고 새로운 마케팅 접근 방식을 요구한다. 관계 마케팅은 가장 혁신적인 마케팅 접근 방식의 하나이다. 관계 마케팅 개념의 중요한 특징은 경쟁 우위를 위해 고객 관계를 구축하고, 유지하고, 강화하는 것이다. 고객 정보는 조직내에서 관계 마케팅 활동에 대한 토대를 제공한다. 관계 마케팅은 데이터베이스 마케팅 시스템의 개발과 사용 없이는 불가능하다. 관계 마케팅을 통해 경쟁 우위를 달성하는 데 있어서 가장 큰 장애는 DB 마케팅 시스템의 개발이다. 따라서, 만약 마케터들이 관계 마케팅을 활용하기를 원한다면, 성공적인 DB 마케팅을 위해 필요한 특성들을 반드시 규명해야 한 것이다. 많은 연구에서 관계 마케팅을 통해 경쟁 우위를 획득하는데 있어서 가장 핵심적인 요소가 조직적 장벽이 사실이라는 결론을 얻었다. Fletcher, et al.은 관계 마케팅에서 조직적 변수들의 중요성을 발견했지만, 이 영역의 연구는 상당히 미개척 분야이다. 이에 본 연구는 조직 변수와 DB마케팅 성숙도간의 관계에 대한 실증적 증거를 제시하고자 한다.

브랜드 개성 항목을 활용한 한국 기업의 상징적 이미지 측정 도구 시안 개발 (A Development of Tentative Measuring items of Korean Corporate Symbolic Image using brand personality)

  • 본 연구에서는 취업 선호도 상위 기업의 상징적 이미지(개성) 측정을 위하여 브랜드 개성 측정 방식을 활용, 그 타당성을 입증하고, 한국기업의 특유한 상징적 이미지 요인을 규명하는 것이다. 먼저, 기업의 상징적 이미지 측정 도구 개발을 위하여 브랜드 개성에 관한 기존 연구를 바탕으로 이미지 측정 항목을 구성하고, 558명 조사를 바탕으로 구성된 항목들이 어떠한 요인으로 분류되는지 알아보기 위하여 탐색적 요인분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 기업의 상징적 이미지 항목은 성실함(Sincerity), 유능함(Competence), 정감(Affection), 활달함(Excitement), 세련됨(Sophistication)으로 명명된 요인으로 분류되었다. 확인적 요인분석 결과, 모든 요인에 대하여 신뢰성과 수렴타당성은 확보되었다. 본 결과를 통하여 기업의 상징적 이미지 측정 도구를 개발하는데 기업의 상징적 이미지는 브랜드 개성과 같은 맥락에서 접근되고 측정될 수 있다는 가정을 확인하였다. 또한, 브랜드 개성의 체계가 표준화의 패러다임보다는 사회 문화적 특성을 토대로 한 개성을 고려하여 현재의 패러다임 속에서 지속적으로 재해석되듯이 기업이미지 체계도 지속적으로 재해석되어야 함을 발견하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 발견된 "정감'의 항목이 재해석된 한국 기업의 상징적 이미지 요인의 하나라고 할 수 있다.

학생-대학간 브랜드 퍼스낼리티 일치성이 신뢰, 만족, 충성도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Brand Personality Congruity between Student and College on Trust, Satisfaction, and Loyalty)

  • 최근 수업연한, 교육서비스제공방식 등에 의해 다양한 유형의 대학들이 나타나고 있으며, 소비자인 학생들의 특성 역시 점차 다양해지고 있다. 본 연구는 대학유형별로 학생-대학간 브랜드 퍼스낼리티 일치성차이가 나타나는지 검증하고, 일치성이 신뢰, 만족, 충성도에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 하였다. 기존 연구에서 제시된 5가지의 브랜드 퍼스낼리티 척도(Brand Personality Scale: BPS)를 활용하여 다음과 같은 두 가지 연구를 진행하였다. 첫 번째 연구는 대학유형에 따라 학생-대학간 퍼스낼리티 일치성에 차이가 존재하는지 밝히는 탐색적 성격의 연구이며, 연구결과 일반대학은 능력(competence), 세련(sophistication), 강인(ruggedness)측면에서, 전문대학은 성실(sincerity)측면에서, 사이버대학은 열정(excitement)측면에서 각각 학생-대학간 퍼스낼리티 일치성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 두 번째 연구는 학생-대학간 퍼스낼리티 일치성이 신뢰, 만족, 브랜드충성도에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 브랜드 퍼스낼리티 일치성은 신뢰, 만족, 브랜드 충성도에 모두 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
