  • In modern science and technology, the organization of building blocks, such as spherical particles and zeolite, is important to form a nanostructure. So, it is essential to develop methods for organizing them into large scale for many precise applications. Up to now, reflux and stirring is widely used method for organization of colloidal particles. However, because this method is hard to organize building block with high coverage and uniform orientation, it is necessary to research another method. In this work, we synthesized spherical silica particles using St$\"{o}$ber method and organized them on the glass which is coated with 3-chloropropyltrimethoxysilane (CP-TMS) and polyethyleneimine (PEI) using Sonication method. Although spherical silica particles are difficult to attach on the glass due to their small attachment site, we improved this problem by coating PEI. We introduced two mode of reaction promotion, sonication (SO) and sonication with stacking between the bare glass (SS), and investigated degree of coverage (DOC) and degree of close packing (DCP).

Optimal Protocol for Enumeration of Attached Bacteria on Glass Slides

  • In examining bacterial growth on glass surfaces immersed in sea water, we found serious differences between enumeration methods. Therefore, we compared various methods and found sonication and direct count methods were superior to other methods. Since the direct count method was not suitable for long-term investigation, we chose the sonication method and confirmed that sonication periods 8 times for 30 seconds was optimal for the detachment of bacteria from glass surfaces.

The Simultaneous Analysis of Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, o,m,p-Xylenes and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons in Soil by GC-FID after Ultra-Sonication

  • A simultaneous determination method of BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, o,m.p-xylene) and TPH (kerosene, diesel, jet fuel and bunker C) in soil with gas chromatography/flame ionization detection (GC-FID) was described. The effects of extracti on method, extraction solvent, solvent volume and extraction time on the extraction performance were studied. A sonication method was simpler and more efficient than Soxhlet or shaking methods. Sonication with 10 mL of acetone/methylene chloride (1 : 1, v/v) for 10 min was found to be optimal extraction conditions for 20 g of soil. Peak shapes and quantification of BTEX and TPH were excellent, with linear calibration curves over a wide range of 1-500 mg/L for BTEX and 10-5000 mg/L for TPH. Good reproducibilities by sonication were obtained, with the RSD values below 10%. By using about 20 g of soil, detection limits were 0.8 mg/L for BTEX and 10 mg/L for TPH. The advantages of this procedure are the use of simple and common equipment, reduced volumes of organic solvents, rapid extraction periods of less than 20 min, and simultaneous analysis of volatile and semivolatile compounds.

초음파처리가 옥수수전분의 이화학특성과 기공 형성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of sonication on physicochemical properties and pore formation of maize starch)

  • 초음파에 의한 전분입자 내 다공구조의 조절 가능성을 검토하기 위하여 초음파 처리조건에 따른 옥수수전분의 물성변화와 글루코아밀레이스에 의해 생성되는 표면 기공의 특성을 조사하였다. 손상전분 측정실험과 및 X-선 회절분석을 통하여 전분입자의 결정성 구조는 초음파 처리조건에 따라 제한적으로 손상되는 것이 확인되었다. 신속점도분석기로 측정한 전분의 페이스팅 점도는 초음파처리에 감소하여 초음파에 의해 전분분자의 polymer network이 약화되는 것으로 판단된다. 전분의 유지흡수는 초음파 10분처리의 경우 초음파 세기가 높을수록 증가한 반면, 전분 손상도가 상대적으로 높은 30분과 50분 처리에서는 오히려 감소하는 양상을 나타내었다. 전분입자 표면은 초음파의 전단력으로 인해 마모되어 처리시간이 길어질수록 손상 정도는 증가하였으나 초음파에 의한 기공 생성은 관측되지 않았다. 글루코아밀레이스 반응시간에 따른 전분표면의 기공 특성 관측결과, 반응초기 초음파처리 전분의 표면에는 무처리 전분 보다 더 많은 미세기공이 생성되었으며 효소반응에 따라 그 크기와 깊이가 확장되어 5시간 반응에서 다공성의 전분입자 형태를 나타내었다. 반면 효소반응 10시간 이후에는 과도한 가수분해로 인한 입자의 형태 파손이 관측되었다. 이상의 결과에 따라 전분입자는 초음파에 의한 표면과 일부 결정성 영역의 손상으로 글루코아밀레이스의 반응이 초기에 빠르게 진행되어 더 많은 미세기공이 입자표면에 생성됨에 따라, 초음파처리 전분의 다공성은 무처리 전분에 비해 증가하는 것으로 판단되었다.

초음파처리가 노계 가슴육 근원섬유단백질의 수용화에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Sonication on the Water-solubilization of Myofibrillar Proteins from Breast Muscle of Spent Hen)

  • 본 연구에서는 노계 가슴육의 단백질 식품 소재로서 활용도를 높이기 위하여 초음파를 이용한 근원섬유 단백질의 수용화에 대하여 검토하였다. 근원섬유에 0.1-0.8 M NaCl, pH 6.0-8.0이 되도록 조절한 후 20 kHz에서 초음파 처리를 하였다. 그런 다음 이들의 용해도, SDS-PAGE, 점도, Ca- 및 Mg-ATPase 활성을 측정하였다. 각각의 처리 조건에서 용해도를 검토한 결과 초음파에 의해서 용해도는 증가하였으며 0.1 M NaCl, pH 8.0에서 약 90%를 나타내었다. 용해된 성분을 SDS-PAGE를 이용하여 검토한 결과 대부분 myosin heavy chain 및 actin에 상당하는 성분이 검출되었으며, 초음파에 의한 단백질의 분리는 근원 섬유 구조의 붕괴에 의한 것으로 사료되었다. 한편, 초음파에 의한 점도의 변화는 용해도가 높을수록 점도도 증가하였다. 그러나, Ca- 및 Mg-ATPase 활성은 초음파에 의해서 급격히 저하하였으며, 초음파에 의해서 분리되는 단백질은 대부분 변성이 진행된 상태인 것으로 사료되었다.

탄소 나노튜브의 길이와 지름에 따른 분류 및 절단 메커니즘에 대한 연구 (Length and Diameter Separation of Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes)

  • The Sonication method is widely used with surfactants to suspend individual single walled nanotubes in solution, and it is well known that sonication-induced tube cutting occurs. Recently, it is found out that ultrasonicated nanotubes yield simultaneous separation by tube length and diameter. Nanotubes that have been cut shortest possess the greatest enrichments of large-diameter species. In this study, we cut single walled carbon nanotubes using a ball milling method and find out similar behavior compared to the sonication process Cutting mechanisms are also investigated using continuum approaches.

Reactive Magnetron Sputtering법으로 제조된 $TiO_2$의 친수성/소수성 변환 특성 (Hydrophilic/Hydrophobic Conversion of $TiO_2$ Films by Reactive Magnetron Sputtering)

  • TiO2 thin films were prepared by reactive magnetron sputtering on glass substrate and subjected into investigation about their hydrophilic properties. Varing Ar/O2 ration and post annealing at 50$0^{\circ}C$ for 12h anatase and rutile phases of TiO2 films were obtained. Hydrophilic properties were evaluated by determination of contact angle of water droplet on TiO2 surface. On as-annealed TiO2 films water droplet spreaded widely with ~0$^{\circ}$contact angle. Sonication(60 Hz, 28kHz 40kHz) and following dark room treatments turned these hydrophilic TiO2 films into hydrophobic state. All of hydrophobic films were converted recersibly into their original state after UV illumination. Hydrophobic states of anatase films were saturated after sonication and remain same during dark room treatment. But it was found that the conversion into hydrophobic state of rutile films progressed. further after sonication. Therefore it was concluded that Ti3+/Ti+4 ratio is the key to determine hydrophilicity of TiO2 surface so that different surface structure of polymorphs could lead to unique characteristics.
