Hydrophilic poly(acrylonitrile) [PAN] membrane with good molecular weight cut-off characteristics were prepared by using the phase inversion method. Permeability and molecular weight cut-off of the membranes were measured through the ultrafiltration test. On the surface of the PAN support membranes, poly(acrylic acid) [PAA] was deposited by dip-coating. The water permeability of the PAN support membrane had $0.17~31\textrm{mm}^3/m^{2} \cdot s \cdot Pa$, the molecular weight cut-off 42, 000~150, 000. The transport characteristics of the prepared composite membranes were significantly affected by the variation of the support membrane mophology. The permeability of the composite membrane was decreased with increasing molecular weight cut-off of the support membrane, and the separation factor was slightly changed depending on the feed concentration.

Recently, the ceramics of high permittivity are applied to DRAM and FRAM. In this study, (B $a_{x}$ S $r_{l-x}$)Ti $O_3$(BST) ceramics thin films were prepared by Sol-Gel method. BST solution was made and spin-coated on Pt/ $SiO_2$/Si substrate at 4000 [rpm] for 10 seconds. Coated specimens were dried at 150[$^{\circ}C$] for 5 minutes. Coating process was repeated 3 times and then sintered at 750[$^{\circ}C$] for 30 minutes. Each specimen was analyzed structure and electrical characteristics. Thickness of BST ceramics thin films are about 2000($\AA$). Dielectric constant and loss of thin films was little decreased at 1[KHz] ~1[KHz]. Dielectric constant and loss to frequency were 250 and 0.02 in $Ba_{0.7}$S $r_{0.3}$Ti $O_3$. The properly of leakage current as the realation between the current and the voltage was that change of the leakage current was stable when the applied voltage was 0~3[V].
The purpose of this research was to describe the mechanisms and prevention of initial degradation in turbidity of the sand filter effluent. The method used was by adding a coagulant (PAC) to the sand filter after backwashing as a means of reducing turbidity. It was found that adding 80 mg/L of PAC solution to the sand filter was very effective in improving the initial effluent turbidity. A turbidity removal efficiency of 99 % was observed in the initial term period as compared to a 70% efficiency without PAC addition. The PAC solution added to the sand filter resulted in high aluminum concentration at the upper layer as compared with the bottom layer of the sand filter column. A change in the zeta potential to a strong positive-ions at upper layer was observed at this time but only a small change was obtained at the bottom. This result showed that the zeta potential of the sand was changed to positive with PAC coating. The effect of pH on zeta potential with PAC addition was also investigated. Zeta potential was greatly changed to positive-ion at pH 4~6. A series of experiments was then conducted in this study to optimize the pH of the PAC solution to be added to the sand filter after backwashing. The removal efficiency of turbidity was found to be highest at pH 5. This result suggested that hydrolyzed aluminium species attached to the surface of the sand enhanced the removal of turbidity of the effluent.

Paperboards used for linerboard of corrugated fiberboard box were coated with different concentrations of polylactic acid (PLA) solution and the effects of harsh environmental conditions such as high humidity and temperature (96% RH at $30^{\circ}C$ for up to 5 days), and freeze-thaw ($-20^{\circ}C$ for a day and then thaw at room temperature for 30 min) conditions on the ring crush (RC) strength of the boards were investigated. One to five percent PLA solutions were coated onto SC manila linerboard ($20{\times}27cm$) using a No. 20 wire bar coater and the ring crush strength was measured using a computer-controlled Advanced Universal Testing System in accordance with TAPPI Test Method T 822 om-93. The RC strength increased significantly when the concentration of coating solution increased and appreciable changes were found when the concentration increased from 0 to 2% (P<0.05). Similar pattern of results was found after 5-day storage at $30^{\circ}C$ and 96% RH. Although such highly humid condition increased moisture content in the samples up to 3.95 from 0.97 times, the RC strength decreased in the range from 29.9 to 48.5%. The freeze-thaw treatment increased the moisture content only up to 1.27% and the reduction in the RC strength ranged from 21.1 to 28.1 %. The results were promising: the samples coated with 5% PLA solution showed 29.9% reduction in the RC strength while that of control was 48.5% during highly humid condition stated above.

A.C. impedance properties of HA/Ti compound layer coated Ti-30Ta-($3{\sim}15$)Nb alloys have been studied by electrochemical method. Ti-30Ta binary alloys contained 3, 7, 10 and 15 wt% Nb were manufactured by the vacuum furnace system. And then specimen was homogenized at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 24 hrs. The sample was cut and polished for corrosion test and coating. It was coated with HA/Ti compound layer by magnetron sputter. The non-coated and coated morphology of Ti alloy were analyzed by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), energy X-ray dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) and filed emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The corrosion behaviors were investigated using A.C. impedance test (PARSTAT 2273, USA) in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Ti-30Ta-($3{\sim}15\;wt%$)Nb alloys showed the ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ phase, and $\beta$ phase peak was predominantly appeared in the case of increasingly Nb contents. The microstructures of Ti alloy were transformed from needle-like structure to equiaxed structure as Nb content increased. From the analysis of coating surface, HA/Ti composite surface uniformed coating layer with 750 nm thickness. The growth directions of film were (211), (112), (300) and (202) for HA/Ti composite coating on the surface after heat treatment at $550^{\circ}C$, whereas, the growth direction of film was (110) for Ti coating. The polarization resistance ($R_p$) of HA/Ti composite coated Ti-alloys were higher than those of the Ti and HA coated samples in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Especially, corrosion resistance of Ti-Ta-Nb system increased as Nb content increased.
The multi-layer PET film of ITO/ATO was prepared by a wet coating method to obtain the transparent film with a high conductance at low cost. ITO nano-particles were synthesized by a SAS method at 15 MPa and $50^{\circ}C$, where optimized rate of In/Sn was 65. Average diameter and resistivity of ITO obtained from SAS are $15{\pm}2nm$ and $4{\times}10^4{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. Coating solution was prepared at pH 10. Roughness (Ra), resistivity, and transmissivity of ATO film on PET are 9 nm, $5.5{\times}10^6{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, and 91%. The multi-layered film of ITO/ATO was obtained by solution including 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 ITO wt% on ATO layer. Roughness (Ra) of multi-layered film with 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 ITO wt% is 4, 10, 12, and 16 nm, respectively. Corresponding resistivity with an increasing ITO concentration is $3.7{\times}10^6$, $2.4{\times}10^6$, $8{\times}10^5$, and $2{\times}10^5{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. Transmissivity of ITO/ATO film decreases as 89, 88, 86, and 82% with an increasing ITO concentration as 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 wt%.

Transparent $TiO_2$ thin films were prepared by the sol-gel method from titanium alkoxide aqueous solution containing large quantities of water. To prepare the aqueous system sol, the chelate compound solution were prepared from each 1 mole of titanium(IV)iso-propoxide, acetylacetone and 8 moles of isopropyl-alcohol. And then the 50 moles aqueous solution with the 0.02~0.50 moles of HCI for sol stability and the 0.3 mole of polyethylene glycol for coating adhesion were precisely dropped on the chelate compound solution. $TiO_2$thin films were fabricated by dip coating, drying and heat treatment at $400^{\circ}C$ and their characteristics were investigated by XRD, SEM and UV-visible spectrometer, The neutral sol of composition with TTIP : AcAc : IPA : $H_2O$ : PEG : HCl = 1 : 1 : 8 : 50 : 0.3 : 0.15 (molar ratio) was maintained stable sol condition and without problem for coating more than 30 days. The anatase phase $TiO_2$thin film prepared from 30 times dipping, drying and heat treating showed the flat surface and the fine microstructure of fracture surface with about 2 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness. Transparency of these $TiO_2$thin film was 80 % in the visible region.

With a new method of applying chitosan and alginate onto cellulose, multi-coated cotton fabrics with chitosan and alginate were prepared and characterized. To coat cotton with chitosan, raw cotton was dipped in chitosan solution, mangled of 1kgf/$cm^2$, neutralized in 2 wt% NaOH soluton, washed, and dried at $60^{\circ}C$ oven. The chitosan-coated fiber was dipped in sodium alginate solution, 1kgf/$cm^2$ mangled, neutralized in 2 wt% $CaCl_2$ solution, washed, and dried at $60^{\circ}C$ oven, resulting in CCAC(coated cotton with chitosan and calcium alginate skin) fiber characteristics. Excellent absorbancy of distilled water and saline solution was observed by the absorption test on cotton fabric treated with CCAC(0.5 wt% calcium alginate) and 0.5 wt% calcium alginate respectively. The SEM photograph confirmed the uniform coating on the cotton fabric surface.

Oxide buffer layers for YBCO coated conductors were fabricated using MOD processing and development of microstructure and texture were investigated. A $CeO_2$ buffer layers were formed on RABiTS tape. Acetate-based precursor solution was employed to synthesize the precursor solution. Subsequently, the precursor solution was stabilized and modified with triethanolamine. $CeO_2$ precursor gel film was coated and annealed in $Ar/H_2$ atmosphere at high temperature. An annealed $CeO_2$ film shows mixed orientation with high (001) texturing. It was shown that (111) texture of $CeO_2$ layers were enhanced by multiple coating. This degradation was attributed to development of microcracks in the multiply coated $CeO_2$ films. Also discussed are the synthesis and the characterization of $La_2Zr_2O_7$ (LZO) buffer layers on RABiTS tape. A biaxially textured LZO buffer layer was fabricated with MOD processing method using metal alkoxide based precursor solution. It was shown that the LZO film were epitaxially grown on RABiTS tape and crack-free & uniform surface was obtained after annealing in $Ar/H_2$ atmosphere.
