  • The inertial fusion research at ILE, Osaka moves to the fast ignition scheme with using PW laser system to achieve hot core plasma of keV-temperature by heating additionally the dense plasma imploded by the multi-beam Gekko laser system. The solid-state lasers have been developed of the peak-power from TW to PW region with the chirped pulse amplification (CPA) and optical parametric amplification (OPA) technology. (omitted)

  • In this study, a compact, picosecond, mid-infrared 3.8 ㎛ MgO:PPLN optical parametric oscillator (OPO) laser output with high peak power is realized using a master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) 1 ㎛ solid-state laser seeded by a picosecond fiber laser as the pump source. The pump source was a 50 MHz and 10 ps fiber seed source. After AOM pulse selection and two-stage solid-state amplification, a 1,064 nm laser output with a repetition frequency of 1-2 MHz, pulse width of 9.5 ps, and a maximum average power of 20 W was achieved. Furthermore, a compact short cavity with a unsynchronized pump is adopted through the design of an OPO cavity structure. When the injection pump power was 15 W and the repetition frequency was 1 MHz, the average output power of idler light was 1.19 W, and the corresponding peak power was 119 kW. The optical conversion efficiency was 7.93%. When the repetition frequency was increased to 2 MHz, the average output power of idler light was 1.63 W, the corresponding peak power was 81.5 kW, and the optical conversion efficiency was 10.87%. At the same time, the output wavelength was measured at 3,806 nm, and the beam quality was MX2 = 3.21 and MY2 = 3.34.

  • $({Li}_{0.5}0{La}_{0.5}){TiO}_3$ (LLTO) solid electrolyte was grown on LiCo{O}_2 (LCO) cathode films deposited on $Pt/Ti{O}-2/Si{O}_2/Si$ substrate using pulsed laser deposition for all-solid-state lithium microbattery. LLTO solid electrolyte exhibits an amorphous phase at various deposition temperatures. LLTO films deposited at 10$0^{\circ}C$ showed a clear interrace without any chemical reaction with LCO, and showed an initial discharge capacity of 50 $\mu$Ah/cm$^2$-$\mu$m and capacity retention of 90 % after 100 cycles with Li anode in 1mol$ LiCl{O}_4$ in propylene carbonate (PC). The increase of capacity retention in LLTO/LCO structure than LCO itself was attributed to the structural stability of LCO cathode films by the stacked LLTO. The cells of LLTO/LCO with LLTO grown at $100^{\circ}C$ showed a good cyclic property of 63.6 % after 300 cycles. An amorphous LLTO solid electrolyte is possible for application to solid electrolyte for all-solid-state lithium microbattery.

  • There are two relaxation frequencies in orthogonally polarized dual-mode solid-state lasers. Complex dynamic behaviors such as chaos can be observed by modulating orthogonally polarized dual-mode solid-state lasers. In this paper, we derived Maxwell-Bloch equations by considering anisotropy explicitly in laser-atom interactions and explained the complex nonlinear dynamical behaviors.

  • We numerically demonstrate that the inherent spiking behavior in the quasi-continuous-wave (QCW) operation of an Nd:YAG laser can be suppressed by adopting bias pumping. After spiking suppression, the output QCW pulses from a bias-pumped Nd:YAG laser are very stable, and they can maintain nearly the same temporal shape as that of pump pulse under different pump repetition rates and peak powers. Our study implies that bias pumping is an alternative method of spiking suppression in solid-state lasers, and the application areas of an Nd:YAG laser may be extended by bias pumping.

  • Recently micromachining using DPSSL(Diode Pumped Solid State Laser) with 3rd harmonic wavelength is actively studied in laser machining area. Micromachining using DPSSL have outstanding advantages as UV source comparing with excimer laser in various aspect such a maintenance cost, maskless machining, high repetition rate and so on. In this study micro-drilling of PCB type substrate which consists of Cu-PI-Cu layer was performed using DPSS Nd:YAG laser(355nm, wavelength) in vector scanning method. Experimental and numerical method(Matlab simulation, FEM) are used to optimize process parameter and control machining depth. The man mechanism of this process is laser ablation. It is known that there is large gap between energy threshold of copper and that of PI. Matlab simulation considering energy threshold of material is performed to effect of duplication of pulse and FEM thermal analysis is used to predict the ablation depth of copper. This study could be widely used in various laser micromachining including via hole microdrilling of PCB, and micromachining of semiconductor components, medical parts and printer nozzle and so on.
