This study was carried out to induce plant regeneration via shoot formation from sucker explants of Rubus fruticosus L. To induce adventitious shoots, sucker explants were sterilized in $1.2\%$ NaOCl solution, and cultured on the MS solid medium supplemented with kinetin (0.5, 1.0, 3.0 mg/L) and BA (0.5, 1.0, 3.0 mg/L), respectively. As above, to induce adventitious shoots, sucker explants were cultured on the MS solid medium supplemented with IBA (0, 0.1, 1.0 mg/L) and BA (0, 0.1, 1.0, 2.0 mg/L). After 4 weeks of culture, the highest frquency $(100\%)$ of shoot formation from sucker explants was obtained from the medium with 1.0 mg/L BA. The highest shoot number per explant from in vitro shoot explants was 5.3. After 10 weeks of culture, the number of shoot per explant was increased. The highest frequency $(85\%)$ of root formation was obtained at 0.5 mg/L glycine medium, when the explant with shoot were cultured on the MS medium containing glycine at various concentrations from 0 to 2.0 mg/L. The survival rate of the plantlets after transfer to plastic pots containing sand, soil, and vermiculite (1:1:1, vol.) was $95\%$. The results indicate that micropropagation procedure can be applied for an efficient mass propagation of Rubus fruticosus.

In textile industries, waste effluent containing zinc is generated during the manufacture of rayon yarn from the wood pulp or cotton linters. Due to the strict environmental regulations and the presence of toxic metallic and other constituents, the discharge of industrial effluents in the sewage or disposal of solid sludge as landfill is restricted. Before recycling of zinc as zinc sulphate solution to the spinning-bath of the rayon manufacturing plant the zinc sulphate solution must be free from calcium, which is deleterious to the process as gypsum precipitates with the increase in concentration and forms scale in the bath. In the present work an attempt has been made to develop a process following solvent extraction technique using thiophosphinic extractants, Cyanex 272 and 302 modified with isodecanol and diluted in kerosene to recover zinc from rayon effluent. Various process parameters viz. extraction of zinc from different concentration of solution, distribution ratio, selective extraction, O/A ratio on extraction and stripping from the loaded organic, complex formation in the organic phase etc. have been studied to see the feasibility of the process. The extractant Cyanex 302 has been found selective for the recovery of 99.99% of zinc from the effluent above equilibrium pH 3.4 maintaining the O/A ratio of 1/30 leaving all the calcium in the raffinate. It selectively extracted zinc in the form of complex $[R_{2}Zn.3RH]_{org}$ and retained all the calcium in the aqueous raffinate. The zinc from the loaded Cyanex 302 can be stripped with 10% sulphuric acid at even O/A ratio of 10 without affecting the stripping efficiency. The stripped solution thus obtained could be recycled in the spinning bath of the rayon plant. The raffinate obtained after the recovery of zinc could be disposed safely without affacting environment.

In the past, facile dissolution of cellulose has been hampered by the lack of suitable nondegrading solvents. Recently, this problem has been solved in our laboratory by the discovery of an inexpensive, convenient solvent system, that is the mixture of $NH_3\;and\;NH_4SCN$, for cellulose. Also, the $cellulose/NH_3/NH_4SCN$ solution system has been found to form the anisotropic, i.e., liquid crystalline phase. It is believed that both the cholesterio and the nematic phase occur. This finding has prompted extensive on-going researoh on the formation of the liquid crystalline phase from an inexpensive natural source such as cellulose since the nematic phase is envisioned as an excellent precursor sources for products with desirable properties, for example, high modulus and high strength. This interest naturally leads to a desire to understand the theological properties of the nematic phase so that the transformation of the nematic phase to the solid state with desirable properties can be efficiently accomplished, ;From this point of view, the theological behavior of the $cellulose/NH3_/NH_4SCN$ system has been studied as a function of shear rate and shear stress over a wide range of solvent compositions, cellulose concentration, centrifugation and urea contents, Results indicate that the viscosity decreases with increasing shear rate. A marked shear thinning behavior and a quasi-Newtonian behavior were observed in the low shear rate region and in the high shear rate region, respectively for all solvent compositions. The $cellulose/NH_3/NH_4SCN$ solution system only exhibited the viscosity increase with increasing cellulose concentration and failed to show the viscosity drop generally observed at the point of incipience of liquid crystal formation, This may be due to the gel-like nature of the solution by the association of the rodlike molecules into bundles which may serve as crosslinking points giving the cellulose solution a network structure. Also, simply hydrogen bonding may be so restrictive of molecular mobility that a viscosity drop is blocked. In addition to the above results, yield stress and thixotropy were also observed in the $cellulose/NH_3/NB_4SCN$ solution system which are characteristics of liquid crystal and gel, The results of the effect of centrifugation on viscosity show that viscosity decreases by the application of centrifugation. This may be explained by the change of the piled polydomain structure to the dispersed polydomain structure due to the pressure gradient generated during centrifugation.ation.

In this study, the effect of alkanolamine additives, 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP) and 2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol (AMPD) on $CO_2$ absorption rate of $K_2CO_3$ solution and the formation of $KHCO_3$ crystals was investigated. The normalized $CO_2$ flux and the equilibrium $CO_2$ partial pressure were measured for 5 wt% additives and 30 wt% $K_2CO_3$ mixtures using a wetted-wall column unit at $40^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$. Both additives showed the increased $CO_2$ absorption rate and lowered the equilibrium $CO_2$ partial pressure acting as promoters. Besides, AMPD which has two hydroxyl groups enhanced the formation of $KHCO_3$ solid product separated from the $CO_2$-rich solution from the results of batch cooling crystallization experiments.

In this study, a numerical analysis is made on the ice-formation for laminar water flow inside a stenotic tube. The study takes into account the interaction between the laminar flow and the stenotic port in the circular tube. The purpose of the present numerical investigation is to assess the effect of a stenotic shape on the instantaneous shape of the flow passage during freezing upstream/downstream of the stenotic channel. In the solution strategy, the present study is substantially distinguished from the existing works in that the complete set of governing equations in both the solid and liquid regions are resolved. In a channel flow between parallel plates, the agreement between the of predictions and the available experimental data is very good. Numerical analyses are performed for parametric variations of the position and heights of stenotic shape and flow rate. The results show that the stenotic shape has the great effect on the thickness of the solidification layer inside the tube. As the height of a stenosis grows and the length of a stenosis decreases, the ice layer thickness near the stenotic port is thinner, due to backward flow caused by the sudden expansion of a water tunnel. It is found that the flow passage has a slight uniform taper up to the stenotic channel, at which a sudden expansion is observed. It is also shown that the ice layer becomes more fat in accordance with its Reynolds number.
This study was conducted to research the formation, color development and application for colored glazes of the spinel solid solutions of the green pigment. On specimens prepared by calcining the oxide and basic carbonate mixture at 1250℃ for 1.5 hour, the x-ray analysis, measurement of reflectance and the test of their stabiality as a glaze pigment were carried out. The results are summarized as follows 1) Each sample is composed of single spinel and not of mixture of spinel. 2) Formation of continuous soild solution, except for a few instances, pertaining to Vegard's law was confirmed by means of the x-ray analysis. 3) The more difference between absorption and reflectance lies, the lighter colors are. When the absorption occurs at the high-reflectance, the excitation purity becomes low. On the contrary when the absorption takes place at the low-reflectance, the excitation purity becomes low. On the contrary when the absorption takes place at the low-reflectance, the excitation purity is higher. 4) Colors obtained in the CdO-MgO-Cr2O3-Al2O3 system, as the amounts of Al3+ increased, change from green through brown to pink, and the absorption peak shifts towards violet region. 5) An increase in Co2+ in the CoO-MgO-Cr2O3-Al2O3 system, changes the color from blue green to dark blue. The excitation purity is higher, and the absorption peak shifts toward regions. 6) Colors are green in the NiO-MgO-Cr2O3 and CdO-MgO-Cr2O3 systems in general, but in the ZnO-MgO-Cr2O3 system brillant hue is not obtained. 70 According to the results of the colored glaze test, the spinels turn outto be stable as brilliant glaze pigment in the calcium-magnesia glaze.
Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) protoplasts were isolated from seven-day-old etiolated hypocotyls of 10 A line and four-week-old fully expanded young leaves of PI 441983 line in vitro seedlings using an enzymatic method. Purified protoplasts were collected by filtration and floatation in sucrose solution. Semi-solid protoplast culture was performed using the L4 regeneration protocol with various culture media and plating densities to achieve the highest efficiencies for protoplast culture of hypocotyl and mesophyll protoplasts of 10 A and PI 441983 lines, respectively. The concentrations in liquid L'4M medium and different plating densities were evaluated in two types of cytokinins, the adenine-type 6-benzyladenine (BA) and the phenylurea-type thidiazuron (TDZ). The highest colony formation was achieved in both sunflower lines when 0.5 mgL-1 BA and 0.5 mgL-1 TDZ were applied with a high plating density (3 × 105 protoplasts mL-1). These conditions led to 38.45% and 39.40% colony formation for hypocotyl protoplasts of the 10 A line and mesophyll protoplasts of the PI 441983 line, respectively. Moreover, many hypocotyl protoplast-derived colonies developed into micro-calli. In addition, superior development of both sunflower protoplasts was observed with all plating densities when BA was used in combination with TDZ. This finding will be applicable to future sunflower hybrid production via somatic hybridization.
Previously, Pseudomonas plecoglossicida YJR13 and Pseudomonas putida YJR92 from a sequential screening procedure were proven to effectively control Phytophthora blight caused by Phytophthora capsici. In this study, we further investigated the anti-oomycete activities of these strains against mycelial growth, zoospore germination, and germ tube elongation of P. capsici. We also investigated root colonization ability of the bacterial strains in square dishes, including cell motility (swimming and swarming motilities) and biofilm formation. Both strains significantly inhibited mycelial growth in liquid and solid V8 juice media and M9 minimal media, zoospore germination, and germ tube elongation compared with Bacillus vallismortis EXTN-1 (positive biocontrol strain), Sphingomonas aquatilis KU408 (negative biocontrol strain), and MgSO4 solution (untreated control). In diluted (nutrient-deficient) V8 juice broth, the tested strain populations were maintained at >108 cells/ml, simultaneously providing mycelial inhibitory activity. Additionally, these strains colonized pepper roots at a 106 cells/ml concentration for 7 days. The root colonization of the strains was supported by strong swimming and swarming activities, biofilm formation, and chemotactic activity towards exudate components (amino acids, organic acids, and sugars) of pepper roots. Collectively, these results suggest that strains YJR13 and YJR92 can effectively suppress Phytophthora blight of pepper through direct anti-oomycete activities against mycelial growth, zoospore germination and germ tube elongation. Bacterial colonization of pepper roots may be mediated by cell motility and biofilm formation together with chemotaxis to root exudates.

The $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$(123) superconductor powders were prepared by pyrophoric synthesis method(PSM) using $Y_2O_3$(99.9%), $BaCO_3$(99.9%), and CuO(99.9%) powders. The phase formation and reaction kinetics of 123 superconductor manufactured with powders prepared in various pHs of pyrophoric synthetic solution have been studied through the experiments at various heat treatment temperatures and times. Inductively coupled plasma(ICP) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) measurements were performed to examine the composition and morphology of the sample. X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis was done to determine phase formation and conversion ratio of Y-Ba-Cu-O systems. The 123 powder prepared at pH 7(${\pm}0.3$) yields the best result in terms of purity, homogeneity, and reactivity. The activation energies(${\Delta}E_a$) of 123 phase formation were found to be 191 kJ/mol and 230kJ/mol in solid state reaction method and pyrophoric synthesis method, respectively.
This study investigated the behaviour of sulfur species after the early diegenetic reduction of sulfate from pore solution in an anoxic intertidal flat deposit in the Banweol area of Kyeong-gi Bay, west coast of Korea. A total of seven sediment cores were collected during 1990∼1992 and were analyzed for their solid-phase sulfur species (acid-volatile sulfur, element sulfur, pyrite sulfur) as well as for chemical components in the pore solution, such as sulfate, ammonium, hydrogen sulfide, phosphate and Fe ion. The pore water sulfate oncentration was found to decrease rapidly downward from the sediment surface, while that of hydrogen sulfide, ammonium and phosphate showed and increase. The dissolved iron concentration in pore water, on the other hand, was found high in the surface layer of sediment, but fell sharply below this layer. these characteristic profiles of pore water sulfide and iron concentrations suggest that some reaction occurs between dissolved iron and sulfide ions, leading to the formation of various sulfide minerals in the sedimentary phase. The amount of inorganic sulfur species in the sediment increased downward, and showed a maximum of up to 7.9 mg/g. among the three species analyzed, acid-volatile sulfur (AVS) was dominant comprising more than 50% of the total. The amount of pyrite sulfur was greater than that of element sulfur. This implies that the formation of pyrite was restricted in this environment. the limited amount of element sulfur in this deposit may have discouraged the active formation of pyrite.
