  • SEI (solid electrolyte interphase) layers are generated on a graphite negative electrode from three different electrolytes and low-temperature ($-30^{\circ}C$) charge/discharge performance of the graphite electrode is examined. The electrolytes are prepared by adding 2 wt% of vinylene carbonate (VC) and fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) into a standard electrolyte solution. The charge-discharge capacity of graphite electrode shows the following decreasing order; FEC-added one>standard>VC-added one. The polarization during a constant-current charging shows the reverse order. These observations illustrate that the SEI film resistance and charge transfer resistance differ according to the used additives. This feature has been confirmed by analyzing the chemical composition and thickness of three SEI layers. The SEI layer generated from the standard electrolyte is composed of polymeric carbon-oxygen species and the decomposition products ($Li_xPF_yO_z$) of lithium salt. The VC-derived surface film shows the largest resistance value even if the salt decomposition is not severe due to the presence of dense film comprising C-O species. The FEC-derived SEI layer shows the lowest resistance value as the C-O species are less populated and salt decomposition is not serious. In short, the FEC-added electrolyte generates the SEI layer of the smallest resistance to give the best low-temperature performance for the graphite negative electrode.

  • La/sub 0.8/Sr/sub 0.2/Ga/sub 0.8/Mg/sub 0.2/O/sub 3-δ/-based solid electrolytes in which Mg site was partially substituted by Fe, Co or Ni (0.05, 0.1, 0.15 at.%) were fabricated by conventional solid-state reaction and their sintered densities were above 94% of theoretical density. X-ray diffraction analysis and microstructure observation for the sintered specimens were performed. The ac complex impedance were measured at 400。C to l000。C in air and fitted with a Solatron ZView program. The electrical conductivity of La/sub 0.8/Sr/sub 0.2/Ga/sub 0.8/Mg/sub 0.2/O/sub 3-δ/-based solid electrolytes substituted by Fe, Co or Ni was higher than that of pure La/sub 0.8/Sr/sub 0.2/Ga/sub 0.8/Mg/sub 0.2/O/sub 3-δ/. The electrical conductivity of La/sub 0.8/Sr/sub 0.2/Ga/sub 0.8/Mg/sub 0.05/Ni/sub 0.15/O/sub 3-δ/ electrolyte was 3.4×10/sup -2/ Scm/sup -1/ at 800。C and the highest value of the whole electrolytes.

  • We have designed and synthesized three Zn(II)-porphyrin derivatives, such as Zn(II) porphyrin ([G-0]Zn-P1) and aryl ether-typed dendron substituted Zn(II)-porphyrin derivatives ([G-1]Zn-P1 and [G-1]Zn-P-CN1). Their chemical structures were characterized by 1H-NMR, FT-IR, UV-vis absorption, EI-mass, and MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopies. Their electrochemical properties were studied by cyclic voltammetry measurement. These Zn(II)-porphyrin derivatives have been used to fabricate dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on solid polymeric electrolytes as dye sensitizers and their device performances were evaluated by comparing with that of a standard Ru(II) complex dye. [G-1]Zn-P-CN1 showed the enhanced power conversion efficiency than those of other porphyrin derivatives, as expected. Short-circuit photocurrent density (Jsc), open-circuit voltage (Voc), fill factor (FF), and power conversion efficiency (η) of solid-typed DSSC for [G-1]Zn-P-CN1 were evaluated to be Jsc = 11.67 mA/cm2, Voc = 0.51 V, FF = 0.46, and η = 2.76%, respectively.

  • A Study on the characteristics of $Ta/Ta_2O_5/MnO_2$ capacitor applied $MnO_2$ by means of pyrolysis of manganese nitrate solution was carried out. Single phase of $MnO_2$ was obtained in the pyrolysis temperature range of 230 to $250^{\circ}C$ by TG/DSC analysis on manganese nitrate solution. Temperature of pyrolysis, concentration of manganese nitrate solution and the number of pyrolysis were selected for the basic parameters of embodying $MnO_2$ solid electrolyte and then the effects of these parameters on the characteristics of capacitor were estimated. The characteristics of capacitor pyrolyzed radiationally was superior to that of capacitor pyrolyzed convectionally on the basis of these optimized parameter conditions. It was verified that radiational pyrolysis formed smaller spherical $MnO_2$ particles than those of convectional one relatively and these facts resulted in forming uniform and dense solid electrolyte layer into the microporous sintered body of capacitor.

  • A lithium-ion battery exhibits high energy density but has many limitations due to safety issues. Currently, as a solution for this, research on solid state batteries is attracting attention and is actively being conducted. Among the solid electrolytes, sulfide-based solid electrolytes are receiving much attention with high ion conductivity, but there is a limit to commercialization due to the relatively high price of lithium sulfide, which is a precursor material. This study focused on the possibility of relatively inexpensive and light lithium hydride and conducted an experiment on it. In order to analyze the characteristics of LiAlH4, ion conductivity and thermal stability were measured, and a composites mixed with PVDF, a representative polymer electrolyte, was synthesized to confirm a change in characteristics. And metallurgical changes in the material were performed through XRD, SEM, and BET analysis, and ion conductivity and thermal stability were measured by EIS and LFA methods. As a result, Li3AlH6 having ion conductivity higher than LiAlH4 is formed by the synthesis of composite materials, and thus ion conductivity is slightly improved, but thermal stability is rapidly degraded due to structural irregularity.
