  • Barium ferrite thin films on the thermal oxidized Si substrate were prepared by using sol-gel method (dip coating) from the sol of composition ratio of 5.25, designated by mole ratio 2Fe/Ba. The gelation process was largely divided into 4 step, and the sol prepared by reaction for 90 minutes at 8$0^{\circ}C$ was the suit-able for coating. Needle shaped particles formed on the coating layer were placed parallel to substrate and the inclination was increased with film thickness. The easy-direction of magnetization of needle shaped par-ticles was long-axis direction.

  • [ $TiO_2-Nb_2O_5$ ] sol was prepared using sol-gel method. Crystalline properties of gel powder changed from rutile phase to anatase phase with increasing $Nb_2O_5$ additives at $800^{\circ}C$, while they retained rutile phase regardless of $Nb_2O_5$ additives at $900^{\circ}C,\;1,000^{\circ}C$. They retained amorphous phase from $50^{\circ}C\;to\;400^{\circ}C$, retained anatase phase from $500^{\circ}C\;to\;600^{\circ}C$ and had rutile phase over $700^{\circ}C$ at 1mole% $Nb_2O_5$ additive. After $TiO_2-Nb_2O_5$ sol retained low viscosity with normal chain structure for a long time, its viscosity increased fast with network structure. DTA properties of gel powder had endothermic reaction due to evaporation of propanol and water about $78^{\circ}C$, had exothermic reaction due to propanol combustion about $290^{\circ}C$ and had exothermic reaction due to changing of $TiO_2$ phase about $640^{\circ}C$.

  • It was investigated in this study that a preparation method, activation energy, surface area, pore volume, pore size distribution and DTA analysis of the dry gel in process of producing monolithic porous gel in Li2O-Al2O3-TiO2-SiO2 system by the sol-gel technique using metal alkoxides. Activation energy for gellation according to the variation of water concentration and the kind of catalysts ranged from 10 to 20kcal/mole. Monolithic dry gels were prepared after drying at 9$0^{\circ}C$ when the amount of water for gellation was 4~8 times more than the stoichiometric amount, that was necessary for the full hydrolysis of the mixed metal alkoxide. The specific surface area, the pore volume, the average pore radius of the dried gel at 18$0^{\circ}C$ according to the various kinds of catalyst were about 348~734$m^2$/g, 0.35~0.70ml/g and 10~35$\AA$, respectively. It showed that the dry gels were porous body. As a result ofthe analysis of DTA, it was confirmed that the exothermaic peaks at 715$^{\circ}C$ and 77$0^{\circ}C$ was clue to the crystallization of dried gel.
