  • Data integration technology is one of the key elements in building data warehouses or big data, and is used to combine data from multiple sources and provide an integrated view to users. Traditionally, the performance of data integration uses a handed-code approach or a tool-based approach that utilizes data integration tools such as ETL. There is a debate about which methods are efficient. This study is conducted to give practitioners preparing for a data integration project an insight into how to perform data integration. This paper examines the views of experts on the controversy over the adoption of ETL tools that have been on the agenda of the data integration area for over a decade.

  • Since the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) may not provide navigation information due to external interferences, many countries have plans to prepare a backup system for this situation. One of the possible GNSS backup systems is a multiple radio positioning integration system in combination with the terrestrial radio navigation system. Before constructing such a GNSS backup system, M&S software is needed to analyze if the system satisfies the performance the required navigation performance. This study presents requirements of M&S software for coverage analysis of the navigation system, and proposes an M&S software design scheme on the basis of the requirements. The M&S software is implemented, and coverage analysis is performed to verify the validity of the proposed design scheme.

  • In distance education, use of proper software tools can greatly enhance student's attention and learning efficiency. In such software tools, offering diverse multimedia information is one of the most critical factors. However, integration and synchronization of the various media types has been relatively difficult parts of implementation. This paper proposes a prototype system that uses a metafile and event handling mechanism for the uniform treatment of various media types. This event-level integration and synchronization of multimedia makes the implementation relatively simple. With this approach, instructor's behaviors are automatically recorded, and the instructors can freely choose and show any type of multimedia contents while lecturing. Current commercial or non-commercial lecture management systems could incorporate this approach, so that the distance education market could be expanded with richer multimedia contents.

  • Current research for software architecture views and models a software system as a set of components and connectors. Components are abstractions of system level computational entities. Connectors are abstractions of components interrelationships. In this paper, we focus on connectors for the JavaBeans-based systems that are built using object integration technologies like CORBA. We present connector model in JavaBeans-based system for object-oriented component integration. We start with a discussion of related work of software architecture research and object-oriented modeling that focuses on the description of component collaborations. We propose connectors as transferable abstractions of system level component interconnection and inter-operation.

Connectors are architectural ions of component coordination in the architecture of a system only. Connectors describe a collaboration rationale for component adaptations, which are then modeled in the concrete architecture of a system.

  • Object technologies like the OMG's CORBA are enabling technologies the aim to facilitate integration implementation of diverse software components in distributed. heterogeneous environment. CORBA and similar object integration technologies define a standard component interconnection and inter-operation model , promote object-oriented principles to encapsulate incompatible component implementations. In this Paper. we present a connector model for software architectural representation of complex component collaborations. Our Connector model is base on research in software achitecture and object-oriented modeling. and part of a design framework for modeling component-based system. We believe the connector concepts to be vary benificial for a clear expression of dependencies between multiple component in Java Bean-based system.

  • To identify miRNA-mRNA interaction pairs associated with binary phenotypes, we propose a hierarchical structural component model for miRNA-mRNA integration (HisCoM-mimi). Information on known mRNA targets provided by TargetScan is used to perform HisCoM-mimi. However, multiple databases can be used to find miRNA-mRNA signatures with known biological information through different algorithms. To take these additional databases into account, we present our advanced application software for HisCoM-mimi for binary phenotypes. The proposed HisCoM-mimi supports both TargetScan and miRTarBase, which provides manually-verified information initially gathered by text-mining the literature. By integrating information from miRTarBase into HisCoM-mimi, a broad range of target information derived from the research literature can be analyzed. Another improvement of the new HisCoM-mimi approach is the inclusion of updated algorithms to provide the lasso and elastic-net penalties for users who want to fit a model with a smaller number of selected miRNAs and mRNAs. We expect that our HisCoM-mimi software will make advanced methods accessible to researchers who want to identify miRNA-mRNA interaction pairs related with binary phenotypes.

  • As the portion of modern weapons systems equipped with electronic components increases, the presence of embedded software has also increased, subsequently drawing interest in quality management and development methods. Unlike mechanical systems, software is logically intangible, hard to troubleshoot, and hard to reuse, making it hard to utilize limited resources when exposed to failures. The United States had successful results in establishing the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) by studying and applying separate processes for development and quality management of defense software. South Korea has also established, and utilizes, a standard of development and quality management for defense software based on international standards. However, some say those standards still remain at a basic level, and should be modified along with the progress in software. If the standard stays at a basic level, compared to software progression, the cost to reuse and restore resources will increase exponentially. This paper discusses improvement in the test processes for defense software through the Test Maturity Model-integration (TMMi)-derived from the CMM-and presents a blueprint for defense software quality management.

  • This study has been focused on the development of an open architecture CNC system and integration of core application technology for machine tool such as a remote monitoring/diagnosis system, NURBS interpolation, and cutting process simulation. To do this, we have developed a comprehensive CNC software including the basic HMI, screen editor, ASF, and visual builder. As a control hardware system for machine tool, the universal I/O module and CNC main unit have been developed. Then the remote monitoring/diagnosis system and NURBS interpolation have been implemented in the CNC software. The cutting simulation software will be used for enhancing the productivity of machine tools. Through a simulator and test bed, the whole technology has been verified.
