In this study, numerical simulations for a single fixed truncated circular cylinder in regular waves were conducted to investigate the nonlinear wave run-up under various dampers and wave period conditions. The present study used the volume of fluid (VOF) technique to capture the air-water interface. The unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) equation with the k- 𝜖 turbulence model was solved using the commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software STAR-CCM+. First, a systematic spatial convergence study was conducted to assess the performance and precision of the present numerical wave tank. The numerical scheme was validated by comparing the numerical results of wave run-up on a bare truncated cylinder with the experimental results, and a good agreement was achieved. Then, a series of parametric studies were carried out to examine the wave run-up time series around the truncated cylinder with single and dual dampers in terms of the first- and second-order harmonic and mean set-up components. Additionally, the local wave field and the flow velocity vectors adjacent to the cylinder were evaluated. It was confirmed that under short wave conditions, the high position of the damper led to a noticeable increase in the wave run-ups with significant changes in the first- and second-order harmonic components.
This study evaluates the seismic performance of a premodern six story reinforced concrete building typology designed during the communism period of Albania and build throughout the country. During the November 26, 2019 Earthquake in Albania, the most affected reinforced concrete buildings were among the old templates, lacking shear walls and inadequate reinforcement details which suffer from concrete aging. The mathematical model of the selected building is done in the environments of ZeusNL software, developed especially for earthquake engineering applications. The capacity curve of the structure is gained using the conventional static nonlinear analysis. On the other hand, the demand estimation is utilized using one of the recent methods known as Incremental Dynamic Analysis with a set of 18 ground motion records. The limit states in both curves are defined based on the modern guidelines. For the pushover, immediate occupancy (IO), life safety (LS) and collapse prevention (CP) are plotted in the same graph with capacity curve. Furthermore, on each IDA derived, the IO, CP and global instability (GI) are determined. Moreover, the IDA fractiles are generated as suggested by the literature, 16%, 50% (median) and 84%. In addition, the comparative assessment of the IDA median with capacity curve shows good correlation points. Lastly, this study shows the approach of determination of LS in IDA fractiles for further vulnerability assessment based on the local seismic hazard map with 95 and 475 return period.

Recently, component-based software has become main trends in designing and developing computer software products. This component-based software has advantage of the interoperability on distributed computing environment and the reusability of pre-developed components. Also, GIS is designed and implemented with this component-based methodology, called Open GIS Component. OGC(OpenGIS Consortium) have announced various implementation and design specification and topic in GIS. In GIS, Spatial analysis functions like network analysis, TIN analysis are very important function and basically, estimate system functionality and performance using this analysis methods. The simple feature geometry specification is announced by OGC to increase the full interoperability of various spatial data. This specification includes just geometry spatial data model. However, in GIS which manages spatial data, not only geometric data but also topological data and various analysis functions have been used. The performance of GIS depends on how this geometric and topological data is managed well and how various spatial analyses are executed efficiently. So it requires integrated spatial data model between geometry and topology and extended data model of topology for spatial analysis, in case network analysis and TIN analysis in open GIS component. In this paper, we design analysis component like network analysis component and TIN analysis component. To manage topological information for spatial analysis in open GIS component, we design extended data model of simple feature geometry for spatial analysis. In addition to, we design the overall system architecture of open GIS component contained this topology model for spatial analysis.

Recently, when software architecture is designed, the efficiency of reusability is emphasized. The reusability of the design can raise the quality of GIS software, and reduce the cost of maintenance. Because the object oriented GoF design pattern provides the class hierarchy that can represent repetitively, the importance is emphasized more. This method that designs the GIS software can be applied from various application systems. A multiple distributed sensor network system is composed of the complex structure that each node of the sensor network nodes has different functions and sensor nodes and server are designed by the combination of many classes. Furthermore, this sensor network system may be changed into more complex systems according to a particular purpose of software designer. This paper will design the CATL model by applying Facade pattern that can enhance the efficiency of reuse according to attributes and behaviors in classes in order to implement the complicated structure of the multiple distributed sensor network system based on TinyOS. Therefore, our object oriented GIS design pattern model will be expected to utilize efficiently for design, update, or maintenance, etc. of new systems by packing up attributes and behaviors of classes at complex sensor network systems.
Recently human gait has been considered as a useful biometric supporting high performance human identification systems. This paper proposes a view-based pedestrian identification method using the dynamic silhouettes of a human body modeled with the Hidden Markov Model(HMM). Two types of gait models have been developed both with an endless cycle architecture: one is a discrete HMM method using a self-organizing map-based VQ codebook and the other is a continuous HMM method using feature vectors transformed into a PCA space. Experimental results showed a consistent performance trend over a range of model parameters and the recognition rate up to 88.1%. Compared with other methods, the proposed models and techniques are believed to have a sufficient potential for a successful application to gait recognition.

Simulations of cavitation flow and hull pressure fluctuation for a marine propeller operating behind a hull using the unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) are presented. A full hull body submerged under the free surface is modeled in the computational domain to simulate directly the wake field of the ship at the propeller plane. Simulations are performed in design and ballast draught conditions to study the effect of cavitation number. And two propellers with slightly different geometry are simulated to validate the detectability of the numerical simulation. All simulations are performed using a commercial CFD software FLUENT. Cavitation patterns of the simulations show good agreement with the experimental results carried out in Samsung CAvitation Tunnel (SCAT). The simulation results for the hull pressure fluctuation induced by a propeller are also compared with the experimental results showing good agreement in the tendency and amplitude, especially, for the first blade frequency.

The accurate segmentation of infant brain MR image into white matter (WM), gray matter (GM), and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is very important for early studying of brain growing patterns and morphological changes in neurodevelopmental disorders. Because of inherent myelination and maturation process, the WM and GM of babies (between 6 and 9 months of age) exhibit similar intensity levels in both T1-weighted (T1w) and T2-weighted (T2w) MR images in the isointense phase, which makes brain tissue segmentation very difficult. We propose a deep network architecture based on U-Net, called Triple Residual Multiscale Fully Convolutional Network (TRMFCN), whose structure exists three gates of input and inserts two blocks: residual multiscale block and concatenate block. We solved some difficulties and completed the segmentation task with the model. Our model outperforms the U-Net and some cutting-edge deep networks based on U-Net in evaluation of WM, GM and CSF. The data set we used for training and testing comes from iSeg-2017 challenge (http://iseg2017.web.unc.edu).
To study the effect of looseness on mechanical behavior of dovetail mortise-tenon joints, five dovetail mortise-tenon joints, including one intact joint and four loose joints, were fabricated and tested under cycle lateral loadings, and non-linear finite element models using the software ABAQUS were also developed. The effects of looseness on stress distribution, rotational stiffness and bearing capacity of joints were studied based on the analysis of test and simulation results. The results indicate that the hysteretic loops are anti-Z-shaped and present typical characteristics of pinching and slippage, the envelop curves of joints are classified as following two stages: elastic and strengthening stage. The peak stress, rotational stiffness and bearing capacity of joints were reduced due to looseness. The moment-rotation theoretical model of intact joint was simplified in terms of the relation of construction dimensions for buildings, and the moment-rotation theoretical model considering the effect of looseness was proposed and validated.

Recently, the object-oriented design is the major paradigm for software development. Most systems are following this paradigm, but the past studies for a video conversation domain were not based on full-scale object-oriented design. Thus, this paper presents an systematical architecture design using UML for a video conversation system that is well-known and has high rate of usefulness. It analysis a video conversation system that has much demand of service as systematical functional/non-functional requirements, and the object-oriented design applying '4+1 View Model' guarantees the reusability of a component and makes it possible to extend a system by adding components as needed. Consequently, it is expected that the components of video conversation system designed by this paper will be useful the other video conversation systems and will be expanded to web environment.

In this study (Part II), the empirical formulation of corrosion model of a ship's ballast tank was developed to predict nonlinear time-dependent corrosion wastage based on the advanced data processing technique proposed by Part I. The detail on how to propose generalised mathematical formulation of corrosion model was precisely documented in the previous paper (Part I). The statistical scatter of corrosion data at any exposure time was investigated by the refined method and formulated based on a 2-parameter Weibull distribution which selected the best fit PDF. Throughout the nine (9) steps, empirical formulation of the ship's seawater ballast tank was successfully proposed and four (4) key step results were also obtained. The proposed method in Part I was verified and confirmed by this application of seawater ballast tank, thus making it possible to predict accurate behaviours of nonlinear timedependent corrosion. Developed procedures and obtained corrosion damage model for ship's seawater ballast tank can be used for development of engineering software.
