A STUDY ON THE SOFT MAGNETIC PROPERRTIES OF Fe-Ta-(N,C) NANOCRYSTALLINE THIN FILMS

  • Magnetic properties of FeTaN and FeTaC films deposited by DC magnetron reactive sputter were investigated, and correlated with their microstructures. The optimum magnetic properties of Hc : 0.25 Oe, Bs : 14.5 kG, and ${\mu}'$ : 4000 (5MHz) are observed in the $Fe_{78.8}Ta_{8.5}N_{12.7}$ film, and Hc : 0.25 Oe, Bs : 14.5 kG, and ${\mu}'$ : 2700 (5MHz) in the $Fe_{75.6}Ta_{8.1}C_{16.3}$ film. In both FeTaN and FeTaC films with minimum grain size show the best soft magnetic properties. Thermal stability of the soft magnetic properties of FeTaN is found to be higher than FeTaC for similar compositons. TaN and TaC particles form to retard the growth of $\alpha$-Fe grains. TaN particles in FeTaN show higher efficiency in retarding the grain growth during heat treatments resulting the higher thermal stability, compared to TaC particles in FeTaC films.

Increment of the Exchange Coupling in Fe-Ni Alloy Thin Films Deposited with a Bias Magnetic Field

  • The structure and magnetic properties of Fe-Ni films, deposited by DC magnetron sputtering on Si(111) wafer, have been studied. The spin wave stiffness constant is determined by Brillouin light scattering (BLS) and compared with the value obtained from magnetization measurements. The range of exchange interaction was determined as 0.4 atomic distances in the film deposited in a bias magnetic field, which is 1/2 that in the film grown in no bias magnetic field. The results show that the dimensions of exchange coupling increased by the sputtering in the magnetic field.

  • MI(Magneto-Impedance) sensor which is made by thin films has significantly high detecting sensitivity in weak magnetic field. It also has a merit to be able to build in the low power system. Its structure is simple, which makes it easier to prepare a miniature. In this study, its magnetic permeability and anisotropy field$(H_k)$ as a function of a thickness of sputtered amorphous CoZrNb films with zero-magnetostriction and excellent soft magnetic property are investigated. In order to make a uniaxial anisotropy, film was subjected to the post annealing in a static magnetic field with 1KOe intensity at 250, 300, and $320^{\circ}C}$ respectively for 2 hours. Anisotropy field$(H_k)$ of film is measured by using a MH loop tracer. Its magnetic permeability of a film is measured over the frequency range from 1 MHz to 750MHz. It has shown that the magnetic permeability of amorphous CoZrNb film is decreased due to the skin effect with increasing a thickness of the CoZrNb film, and hence its driving frequency is lowered. And, it was examined on the permeability and impedance to fabricate the MI sensor which acts at a low frequency by thickening a CoZrNb film relatively.

Soft-Lithographic Fabrication of Ni Nanodots Using Self-Assembled Surface Micelles

  • This study proposes a simple nano-patterning process for the fabrication of magnetic nanodot arrays on a large area substrate. Ni nanodots were fabricated on a large area (4 inches in diameter) Si substrate using the soft lithographic technique using self-assembled surface micelles of Polystyrene-block-Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS-b-PMMA) diblock copolymer formed at the air/water interface as a mask. The hexagonal array of micelles was successfully transferred to a Ni thin film on a Si substrate using the Langmuir-Blodgett technique. After ion-mill dry etching, a magnetic Ni nanodot array with a regular hexagon array structure was obtained. The Ni nanodot array showed in-plane easy axis magnetization and typical soft magnetic properties.

Numerical Analysis of Loss Power Properties in the Near-Field Electromagnetic Wave Through A Microstrip Line for Multilayer Magnetic Films with Different Levels of Electrical Conductivity

  • There are few reports of high frequency loss behavior in the near-field for magnetic films with semiconducting properties, even though semiconducting magnetic materials, such as soft magnetic amorphous alloys and nanocrystalline thin films, have been demonstrated. The electromagnetic loss behavior of multilayer magnetic films with semiconducting properties on the microstrip line in quasi-microwave frequency band was analyzed numerically using a commercial finite-element based electromagnetic solver. The large increase in the absorption performance and broadband characteristics of the semiconducting/insulating layer magnetic films examined in this study were attributed to an increase in the loss factor of resistive loss. The electromagnetic reflection increased significantly with increasing conductivity, and the loss power deteriorated significantly. The numerical results of the magnetic field distribution showed that a strong radiated signal on the microstrip line was emitted with increasing conductivity and decreasing film thickness due to re-reflection of the radiated wave from the surface of the magnetic film, even though the emitted levels varied with film thickness.

Degradation of Soft Magnetic Properties of Fe-Hf-N Films After Annealing (Fe-Hf-N 박막의 열처리 후 연차기특성 열화)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the degradation of soft magnetic properties of Fe-Hf-N thin films after annealing in vacuum. They were annealed at 450℃∼650℃. The microstructure and crystal phase of the selected area of the thin films were analyzed by TEM and SAD. After annealing at 450℃-600℃, the coercivity of the films increased by 0.2 Oe and the effective permeability decreased by 1500 as compared with them before annealing due to the growth of α-Fe crystallites. The saturation magnetic flux density of the films increased by 0.5 KG after annealing under 600℃. However, the soft magnetic properties of the film annealed at 650℃ degraded abruptly, which was attributed to the destruction of nano-crystalline microstructure of the film due to the rapid growth of α-Fe crystallites with the segregation of N sited in the α-Fe lattice into HfN.

  • We propose the new fabrication method of a 70 nm half-pitch wire grid polarizer with high performance using magnetic soft mold. The device is a form of aluminium gratings on a PET(Polyethylene phthalate) substrate whose size of $3cm{\times}3cm$ is compatible with a TFT_LCD(Tin Flat Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) panel. A magnetic soft mold with a pitch of 70 nm is fabricated using two-step replication method. As a result, we get a NWGP pattern which has 70.39 nm line width, 64.76 nm depth, 140.78 nm pitch, on substrate. The maximum and minimum transmittances of the NWGP at 800 nm are 75% and 10%, respectively. This work demonstrates a unique cost-effective solution for nanopatterning requirements in consumer electronics components.

Effects of Cr Addition on the Magnetic Properties and Corrosion Resistance of Nanocrystalline FeZrN Thin Films (미결정 FeZrN 박막의 자기특성 및 내식성에 미치는 Cr 첨가 효과)

  • With the variation of Cr content and $N_2$ flow ratio, the soft magnetic properties, corrosion resistance and reactivity of the sputtered nanocrystalline FeZrCrN thin flims were investigated. In case of FeZrCrN thin films, a saturation magnetization was decreased with increasing $N_2$ flow ratio. In addition, good soft magnetic properties were obtained at the flow ratio of 3% $N_2$. The $Fe_{64.9}Zr_{8.8}Cr_{5.8}N_{20.5}$ nanocrystalline thin film after annealing at $550^{\circ}C$ exhibited the saturation magnetization of 12.5kG, low coercivity of 0.4 Oe and high permeability of 2600 at 5 MHz. Films containing up to 7.5% Cr showed an enhanced corrosion resistance and reduced reactivity with the bonding glass without degradation of soft magnetic properties, although the saturation magnetization was decreased slightly with the Cr addtion.

  • Recently, a countermeasure for the electromagnetic noise emission on RF integrated transmission line using the loss generation of ferromagnetic thin films is briefly suggested$\^$1,2/. Without the magnetic film, the noise harmonics of the signal pass through the transmission line with only a little attenuation. The ideal role of magnetic film is not to raise insertion losses in the pass-band and to give as large attenuation as possible to eliminate the noise harmonics at the stop-band, the frequency range higher than the meaningful signal as shown in Fig. 1. and Fig. 2.
