The purpose of this research was to identify types of leisure time with whom and determinants of the types. The data source for this research was the '2009 Time Use Survey' conducted by the Korea National Statistical Office (KNSO). The item 'people involved in each activity' was surveyed for the first time by KNSO in 2009. 3,712 diaries completed by married adults aged 20 to 59 years were analyzed using chi-square, cluster analysis, and logistic regression analysis. Leisure time with whom was classified into four types based on three categories of leisure time (alone, with family, with others): "individual-oriented leisure," "family-oriented leisure," "others-oriented leisure," and "vulnerable leisure." The analysis is performed in two stages. First, the efficiency is measured via the nonparametric "Data Envelopment Analysis" (DEA) technique. The DEA models are constructed not only to assess the overall technical efficiency of organic fanning practices but also to evaluate the management efficiencies. In a second stage critical determinants of efficiency are determined using a Tobit model. In this analysis the focus is on technical and socio-economic variables. The analytical results show that technically efficient farms is about 13 percent and the mean technical efficiency is found to be 0.73 indicating that many farms are not operating at an efficient scale.

  • There have been numerous studies in Korea and other countries of which the major hypotheses are identifying and dearibing the conditions under which the value of children has been formed. The present study proposes to view the formation of the value of children as a correlate of family's consumption-saving and work4eisure behavior pattern. The objectives of the proposed study are to identify the socio-economic and demographic factors determining the family's consumption-saving and work-leisure behavior pattern and to analyse the relationship between the value of children and this behavior pattern. The conceptual framwork of the analysis is that an individual family's socio-economic and demographic factors influence and shape the consumption-saving and work-leisure behaviors and these behaviors in turn influence and reflect the correlates and proximate determinants of the family'sfertility. In this paper, regression model is used to analyse the hypothesized relationship among the various variables. The regression methods used are first and second stage multiple regressions. In addition, MONOVA has been used to show the interactions. Data used are collected from the government publicactions. The major findings from this study are as follows: As the living Standard improves, n individual family's consumption of necessities and its working hours decline, while savings and leisure activities increase. The phenomena result in the fertility reduction as can be seen in the more developed conntries. Child-bearing and rearing activities are found to be the important component to determine the condumption-saving and work-leisure activies. The married women's labor participation, and the investment in education and health are also found to be the factors reducing fertility rate.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the development and determinants of China-ASEAN trade relations over the period of 2000-2018. Employing both the qualitative and quantitative approaches, the results show that the trade relations between China and the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) have remarkably developed and rapidly grown over times, with a significantly important concentration on the segments of high technological and medium technological products. We also find that China's economic scale is crucially impacting on the China-ASEAN trade relations under both the aggregate and sub-sector level. It is interesting to notice that there is no evidence to support accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and officially forming of ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) to enhance trade relation between both sides. The findings also quantitatively indicate that there is much significant potential for the expansion of mutual trade between China and some members of ASEAN such as Brunei, Laos and Malaysia, while less potential is predicted for other members of ASEAN. It is strongly suggested that China and ASEAN should find a new proactive approach and make more efforts in improving the mutual political trusts to enhance trading activities in the coming years.

  • This study investigated the factors influencing married men's time allocation in child care. A multidimensional theoritical approach employing the perspectives of economic efficiency time availability and role ideology was employed to explain variations in fathers' participation in child care. In addition the effects of several socio-demographic variables were investigated. The sample was drawn from the National Survey of Families and Households (NSFH) conducted in 1987-1988 by the Center for Demography and Ecology in University of Wisconsin-Madison. Results indicated that the time availability perspective was significantly supported and the economic efficiency perspective was partially supported. On the other hand no singificant evidence was found for the effect of role ideology on fathers' child care time. Overall demographic variables had a nonsignificant effect (except in the case of age) on the amount of fathers' participation in child care.
