  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the tendency and characteristics of behavior problems in preschool children. The aim was to acquire basic information that could be used in diagnosis and intervention strategies. The target of this study were 823 preschoolers, the reporting on which was conducted through the responses of 81 teachers. Analysis consisted of partitioning behavioral problems by demographic variables in order to ascertain differences by age, sex, and cut-off score of the high risk group. Overall results indicate significant differences in behavioral problems according to socio-demographic variable. The conclusions of this study offer a foundation for diagnosis, intervention, and therapy for preschoolers with problem behaviors.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of home related variables like socio-demographic variables, parent-child communication, and concern for children's education on children's school adjustment. The data was collected from 287 elementary school children living in Gyunggido. Measurement scales included the children's school adjustment inventory, the questionnaire of the socio-demographic variables, the parent-child communication index, and the parent's concern about children's education index. Results showed that children's school adjustment was significantly effected with regard to: father's age, father's education, mother's education, income, and mother's job. Correlation analysis indicated that parent-child open communication was positively correlated to children's school adjustment; that is the relationships with teachers and with friends, study at school, and rule of school. As well, parent-child problematic communication was negatively correlated to all of the school adjustment variables. Parent's concern about children's education indicated positive correlations with all of the school adjustment variables. It was also found that: parent's concern about children's education, parent-child open communication, parent-child problematic communication, mother's education, and income were significant predictors of the children's school adjustment.

The model for this study included following variables; (1) socio-demographic variables, which are the independent variables; (2) energy conservation behavior of consumer, which is a dependent variable; (3) energy conservation attitude of consumer, which is an intervening variable ;(4) energy conservation knowledge of consumer, which is an intervening variable. The data used in this study included 502 homemakers living in Seoul. Statistics used for data analysis were ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation and Path Analysis. The major findings were follows; (1) Energy conservation attitude and energy conservation behavior difference significantly according to the level of family income among socio-demographic variables such a age, educational level and family income. Energy conservation knowledge differenced significantly educational level, and family income. Energy conservation knowledge difference significantly educational level. (2) Energy conservation behavior differed significantly according to energy conservation attitude and energy conservation knowledge. (3) Energy conservation attitude and energy conservation knowledge had positive effects on energy conservation behavior directly and indirectly. (4) Family income had negative effects on energy conservation behavior directly and indirectly through energy conservation attitude. Education had positive effect on energy conservation behavior indirectly through energy conservation knowledge.

In order to achieve this purpose, the survey was taken by 758 adolescents (middle & high school students) from Daegu. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, Factor Analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Multivariate Analysis of Variance, Scheffe test for post hoc, and Multiple Regression. The major findings were: 1) Role expectation had significant differences in the grade, gender, birth order, father's level of education, father's job, mother's age, and household economy of socio-demographic variables. Role performance showed significant differences in the grade, gender, father's age, parents' level of education, father's job, and household economy of socio-demographic variables. 2) Adolescents' perception of parents and children's relationship was affected by role expectation and role performance.

  • The current study examined the effects of socio-demographic characteristics and peer relations on the emotional, behavioral, and comorbid disorder symptoms among low-low-SES children, using the Young Lives Survey: an International Study of Childhood Poverty: Round 1, 2002. Participants were 1,000 8-year-old children (502 boys and 498 girls) from low-low-SES families. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, t-tests, post hoc test (Scheffe's method), correlations, and multiple logistic regression analyses according to the analysis strategy. There was a moderate correlation between selected socio-demographic variables and emotional/behavioral disorder symptoms, and the caregiver's marital status, child's health compared to others, child's work status corresponded to significant differences in their emotional/behavior levels. Regarding the logistic regression analysis, in addition to the effects of socio-demographic variables reflecting the characteristics of less-developed countries, marital status, child's working status, and conflicts with peers proved to be detrimental to emotional, behavioral, or comorbid disorder symptoms in low-SES children, who have been lack quality parenting, social resources, and child human rights. Results indicated the need to develop health care services that would address those problems and appropriate intervention and prevention programs targeting children in low-income families. Moreover, careful assessment and intervention for child's health status, child's working status and peer relationship problems are suggested as possible strategies for helping children at risk of exhibiting further problematic behaviors.
