The density and strength of wood is affected by degradations and defects, such as voids and knots. Old wooden structures such as traditional cultural properties have been deteriorated by these types of defects. They were evaluated by a visual observation that is difficult to evaluate the inner deterioration in structures. In this study, three nondestructive testing techniques were investigated to detect the wooden structural members. Ultrasonic stress wave tests, drilling resistance tests and visual inspections were used to examine the structural wood members. Patterns of Resistograph using by drilling resistance tests could indicate the features of internal wood such as voids, knots, decay, fungi, and so on. The technique just like as ultrasonic stress wave tests, however, difficult to detect exactly area where small amounts of internal deterioration in logs are. In spite of results of ultrasonic stress wave test, the internal deterioration of wooden structural members could be evaluated by the relationship between ultrasonic stress wave tests and drilling resistance tests.

This paper presents the analytical investigation pertaining to the local buckling behavior of orthotropic channel section compression members stiffened with unsymmetric stiffeners at its free edges. In the analysis, tile edge stiffener is modeled as a beam element or a plate element. The result of both cases is presented in graphical form so that the effects of edge stiffeners on the local buckling strength of edge stiffened channel section member can be found.

Purpose: This study was performed to determine the perception and attitude of emergency medical staff by the presence of family members while performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Methods: Data were collected from June and August in 2010 using questionnaire. The participants were 187 doctors and nurses who were working at emergency medical centers located at eight hospitals. Results: Approximately half of the medical emergency staff had previous experience of having requests from a patient's family members to remain present at the time of performing CPR. Most of the subjects did not know that the 2005 American Heart Association (AHA) guideline recommended including willing family members' during CPR. Doctors were more likely than nurses to recognize that the positive effects of family members being present during CPR. Conclusion: This study indicates that health professionals are not aware of the AHA guidelines for including family members during CPR of a patient and further that more doctors than nurses recognized the value of including willing family members during CPR.
The spot welded sections of automobiles such as the hat and double hat section members, absorb the most of the energy during the front-end collision. The purpose of this study was to analyze the collapse characteristics of spot welded section members with respect ttl the pitch or spot welds on flanges. through impact experiments and computation for para-closed sections and perfectly closed sections. The hat shaped section members were tested at the impact collapse velocities of 4.72 m/sec, 6.54 m/sec and 7.19 m/sec and double hat shaped section members were tested at the impact collapse velocities of 6.54 m/sec, 7.19 m/sec and 7.27 m/sec. A commercial LS-DYNA3D was used to simulate the collapse behavior of the hat and double hat shaped section members. The validity of the simulation was to be proved by comparing the simulation results and the experimental results.
Through the present experiment the various Aspergilli have been isolated from 53 Meju specimens (fermented soy bean cake) which were collected from 43 local areas in Korea and those of them are arranged as 6 different groups: Asp. flavus-oryzae group (38 strains), Asp. niger group (11 strains) Asp. nidulans group (5 strains), Asp. clavatus group (4 strains), Asp. fumigatus group (3 strains), and Asp. ochraceus group (2 strains), as the result of identification of them by the group key of Thom and Raper. Further identifications of them according to the species keys of Thom and Raper, Yamata and Sakakuchi have been also conducted and the results obtained are following as: 1. Group members (38) of Asp. flavus-oryzae group are identified as. Asp. oryzae, Asp. oryzae var. fulvus, Asp. flavus. and Asp. parasiticus, not identified two different strains belong to this group. 2. Group members (11) of Asp. niger group are identified as Asp. niger and Asp. phoenicus. 3. Group members (5) of Asp. nidulans groups are identified as the same species, Asp. nidulans. 4. Group members (4) of Asp. clavatus group are identified as the same species, Asp. clavatits. 5. Group members (3) of Asp. fumigatus group are identified as the same species, Asp. fumigatus. 6. Group members (2) of Asp. ochraceits group are identified as the same species, Asp. sulphereus.
Several members of tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) superfamily that these members activate caspase-8 from death-inducing signaling complex (DISC) in TNF ligand-receptor signal transduction have been identified. In the extrinsic pathway, apoptotic signal transduction is induced in death domain (DD) superfamily; it consists of a hexahelical bundle that contains 80 amino acids. The DD superfamily includes about 100 members that belong to four subfamilies: death domain (DD), caspase recruitment domain (CARD), pyrin domain (PYD), and death effector domain (DED). This superfamily contains key building blocks: with these blocks, multimeric complexes are formed through homotypic interactions. Furthermore, each DD-binding event occurs exclusively. The DD superfamily regulates the balance between death and survival of cells. In this study, the structures, functions, and unique features of DD superfamily members are compared with their complexes. By elucidating structural insights of DD superfamily members, we investigate the interaction mechanisms of DD domains; these domains are involved in TNF ligand-receptor signaling. These DD superfamily members play a pivotal role in the development of more specific treatments of cancer.
