Using flight simulator tasks with 48 air force cadets, this research examined the effects of pilots' flight skill and self-esteem on risk-taking behavior in the context of social comparison with their cohorts. Flight skill and self-esteem were assessed for individual cadets and three conditions of social comparison (upward-, downward-, and no-comparison) were devised. Flight simulator situations inappropriate for further approach or landing were designed to assess pilots' risk-taking behavior. Weather conditions in the simulator were inadequate to make a landing and the recommended strategy was to break off the approach and attempt a go-around. In this experiment, pilots' risk taking was measured in terms of their approach altitudes; the lower approach altitudes indicative of the higher risk-taking. Our results showed interaction effects of flight skill, self-esteem, and social comparison on risk-taking behaviors. For pilots who were either high or low in both self-esteem and flight skill, social comparison had no effect on risk-taking behavior. However, pilots with high self-esteem but low flight skill showed more risk-taking behaviors in social comparison conditions. And, pilots with low self-esteem but high flight skill showed risk-aversive behaviors in the downward-comparison condition.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify the degree of accident prevention behavior, self-esteem, self-regulation ability, and social support among middle-school students, and investigate factors influencing their practice of accident prevention behaviors. Methods: The participants were 174 students from two middle schools located in J city. Data were collected from December 28, 2017 to February 9, 2018 using self-reported questionnaires. Results: The mean score were $3.08{\pm}0.37$ of 4 for practice of accident prevention behaviors, $3.07{\pm}0.57$ of 4 for self-esteem, $3.69{\pm}0.48$ of 5 for self-regulation ability, and $3.38{\m}0.75$ of 5 for social support. Positive correlations were found among self-regulation ability, self-esteem, social support, and practice of accident prevention behaviors. The factors influencing the practice of accident prevention behaviors were personality (being 'haste') (${\beta}=-.20$, p=.003), self-regulation ability (${\beta}=.48$, p<.001), and social support (${\beta}=.23$, p<.001). These factors explained 39.0% of the variance in practice of accident prevention behaviors. Conclusion: It was found that the middle-school students engaged in prevention behavior to an extent that was insufficient to prevent accidents. Therefore, it is necessary to develop intervention strategies to improve the practice of accident prevention behavior among middle-school students, considering self-regulation ability, social support, and personality, which affect the practice of accident prevention behaviors.

The resulting scale of the instrument had good internal reliability(Cronbach's alpha=. ) and was scored so that high scores indicated a willingness to access. To examine this purpose, One way ANOVA, multiple regression analysis were conducted. And the results are as follows: The relationship ratings of the correction factors were positively associated with their rating of the type of social support. Informational support was positively associated with self reflection and esteem support was positively associated with self concept, legal consciousness, self reflection and emotional support were positively associated with esteem. The type of support according to support providers was significant, explaining 25% of the variance in self concept scores. The significant predictor was esteem support from friends and emotional support from a community. The type of support according to support providers was significant, explaining 20% of the variance in legal consciousness scores. The significant predictor was informational support from teachers and esteem support from a community. The type of support according to support providers was significant, explaining 21% of the variance in self reflection scores. The significant predictor was esteem support and emotional one from relatives.

The present study purported to understand the relationships between SNS appearance-related photo activity, body image and self-esteem among young women. Objectification Theory and Social Comparison Theory explain the process how young women's SNS appearance-related photo activity influence their body satisfaction through a perceived media pressure, objectification of their own bodies and appearance comparison. These process ultimately affect the self-esteem of young female users. A research model was proposed and related hypothesis were examined. We collected an online questionnaire from 400 female participants in their 20's. Data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 18.0. Structural equation modeling analyses suggested that the proposed research model provided a good fit to the data and supported most hypothesis. The results indicated that the level of SNS appearance-related photo activity significantly influences young female user's body satisfaction and self-esteem. The findings of this study were consistent with previous literature on media and body image. Limitations and future research suggestions were also described.
This study examined how school-age children's peer acceptance and friendship experience were related to their psychosocial adjusment. Peer acceptance was examined in terms of sociometric status and social preference, and the friendship experience was examined in terms of the reciprocity of best friendship. The subjects were 275 children in the 4th or 5th grades. It was found that sociometric status and the reciprocity of best friendship were significant predictors of the level of loneliness that children experienced. Interaction between children's social preference score and the reciprocity of best friendship was also a significant predictor of the children's experience of loneliness. That is, the degree to which children are accepted by their peer group predicts the level of loneliness that children experience, but the strength of the prediction depends on whether the children have reciprocal best friends. Is for children's self-esteem in relation with sociometric status and the reciprocity of best friendship, only sociometric status was significant predictor of children's self-esteem. However, interaction between social preference and the reciprocity of best friendship was a significant predictor of children's self-esteem. This finding suggests that the degree to which children are accepted by their peer group predicts the level of children's self-esteem, and the strength of the prediction depends on whether the children have reciprocal best friends.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influencing factor to self actualization in middle-aged women. Method: The subjects for this study were 191 middle-aged women selected by convenience sampling in three cities. Data collection was done using a questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, Pearson Product Moment Correlation coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Regression. Result: The results of this study were as follows: 1. The relationship between self-efficacy, social support, self esteem, motivation for achievement, parental satisfaction with children and self-actualization were found to have statistically significant positive correlations. But the relationship between depression and self-actualization were found to have statistically significant negative correlation. 2. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor was social support. Social support, motivation for achievement and self esteem accounted for 38.1% of the variance in self-actualization in middle aged women. Conclusion: According to these results, it is recommended that in order to enhance self-actualization in middle-aged women, empowerment of social support, motivation for achievement and self esteem should be pursued.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of gender role attitudes and family service utilization on self-esteem among single parents. This study used data from the seventh wave of Korean Welfare Panel Study and analyzed 90 single parents. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses showed that health status, economic situation, gender role attitudes, and non-monetary family welfare service had significant effects on single parents' self-esteem. Single parents who had higher traditional gender role attitudes show lower levels of self-esteem. Also use of a non-monetary family service increased the levels of self-esteem. However, use of a monetary family service was not significantly associated with the levels of self-esteem. The findings indicate that services and programs to promote single parents' gender role flexibility should be developed. Also, it is necessary to establish a service system to reduce multiple role stress among single parents.
The purpose of this research was to delineate the effect of parenting stress of the children's self-esteem. Such variables as the mother's age, her education level and maternal parenting stress were chosen for the analysis. The sample subjects were 659 pairs of fifth/sixth grade of elementary school and first/second grade of middle school and their mothers. The major findings of the research were as follows : First, the children's self-esteem was significantly different to mother's education level but the children's self-esteem not significantly different to mother's age. Second, parenting stress related to temperament, relationship and learning expectation was significantly different to children's self-esteem. Third, the result of stepwise multiple regression analysis on the effects of the maternal variables(mother's age, her education level, parenting stress) to the children's self-esteem indicated that maternal parenting stress related to temperament, relationship and mother education level were the significant contributing factors.
