  • The personal history of individuals directly and vividly reflects the courses of their life and the society of which they are a part. It has become a meaningful part of the social landscape today to pursue efforts to understand humans and humanity correctly and properly through the windows of private records. Notably, the significance of keeping private records on the relationship between individuals and the society of which they are a part lies in the fact that they cooperate to build a foundation on which they can prosper together. One of necessary things to be done to fully appreciate the values of such private records is to perform serious analyses on particular individuals who are behind those records. Developing and refining methods of life history research such as time-line interviews exert positive influence in setting up a direction for private documentation systems where private records are collected and maintained.

  • With the increase of the establishment of temporary institutions in accordance with social issues, the importance of managing records that reflect the characteristics of temporary institutions is highlighted. However, because of the ambiguity of laws related to records management, the limited number of employees, and the lack of awareness of records management by temporary institutions, the records management has not been carried out properly. Therefore, this study seeks to identify the gaps between statutes and practices and derive improvement measures for them. As such, the concept and characteristics of temporary institutions were identified through requests for disclosure of information. Moreover, the status of the administrative committee and the records management status of various temporary organizations were determined as well. Finally, improvement measures were drawn and proposed in terms of law, system, and record management by selecting relevant institutions in accordance with the Act and conducting in-depth interviews. This study is significant as it monitored the entire process of managing the records of existing time organizations and will serve as the basis for efficiently managing the future ones.

For the purpose, data created between August 1st and September 30th in 2016 were collected from Facebook continuously operated by 27 state archives. The extent of user participation was measured based on the number of user comments, the number of unique commenters, and the average number of comments per post. According to the measures, top 10 Facebook of state archives were selected. Out of these, Facebook of Ohio (1st), Florida (5th) and Arkansas (10th) state archives were chosen to collect 687 user comments and 132 posts. The analysis showed that comments regarding users' emotional opinion and judgement, adding explanations to a post, and sharing personal stories occupied a large portion. Interactions among users or between a user and an archivist were also identified. With regard to posts, those for sharing information/knowledge of records held in archives were identified as a high percentage. The study suggested that archives should collect and present historical information and related records connected to users' lives, examine methods for effective communication with users via social media and facilitate publicity and outreach services of archives based on shaping and maintaining online user community through social media.

  • For a long time, popular songs have been our source of happiness. They go along with the flow of the generation, allowing them to acquire a significant meaning. Popular songs thus reflect the contemporary society. However, in the study of popular song archives, there has been an interest only in the information of the songs sung by a singer, the type of songs, and the type of singers. Thus, existing popular song archives were not able to reflect the characteristics of the society of the generation when the songs were popular. Therefore, this paper searched for ways by which to archive not only popular songs but also the characteristics of the society during the time when these songs were famous, and suggested a story collection through the methods. These stories reflect the lives of the people and the characteristics of the society during the periods when the songs were popular. Furthermore, these stories go beyond popular songs, making it possible for us to look dimensionally on the society we are affiliated in.
