  • In this paper, we present the experimentation and demonstration results of Korea-Japan high-speed satellite ATM network using Ka-band Koreasat-3. This experimentation consists of two items - TCP/IP and MPEG-2 video/audio transmission over 155Mbps ATM based satellite network. The goals of this experimentation are to measure TCP performance when the only standard mechanisms approved by IETF in order to improve TCP performance in LFN(long fat network) are used and to derive the effects of quality for the high definition video stream when MPEG-2 TS is transmitted through 155Mbps satellite ATM link. With on the results of the experiments, we demonstrated the applications suitable to the high-speed satellite ATM network. The first TCP/IP and MPEG-2 transmission experiments were done at the rate of 155Mbps using Ka-band KOREASAT-3 between Korea and Japan, and its results will be demonstrated with the ATM-based 3D-HDV(3 dimensional High definition video) and HDTV during 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup Soccer Game.

  • This paper is mainly interested in customer's(fan's) royalty to professional sports in sports industry. The royalty is studied with the royalty to several products and a service, so that we can obtain the comparison between both the former and the latter royalty. Interested professional sports, products and service are baseball, basketball, soccer, beer, cu, cola/cider, etc, and we will call each of them 'item'. The seven related hypotheses are considered. In hypotheses the dependent variable is royalty to nine items, and the independent variables are rune items, and customer's sex and major. For testing hypotheses, a questionaire is used, and reliability is checked with Cronbach's Alpha and correlation coefficients. For some items the royalty is significantly strong. Rather, even if some item has bad quality, it is found that customers can be royal to that item. We can identify some of those items through the results of this study. The strong significant results will be useful for the customer management. Additional studies are required for nonsignificant results which seems to be useful, and they are noted in the final part of the paper.

  • Social network analysis is the social statistical analysis of any social structure involving a stream of mutual information between observations. In this study we used the results of passes between players in a soccer game. The analysis contents are as follows. (1) Players with important or leading roles are identified. (2) Players are assessed by pass frequency and the success rate of passes. The purpose of this study is for use as basic data for future team strategy, and achieves this by evaluating the role of each individual player within a team. In this study, social network analysis without separating positions is conducted, and is also performed for defensive and attacking positions respectively. The results of this study are as follows: First, when complete team data were available, the players performing leadership roles were Jung-woo Kim, Sung-yeung Ki and Chung-young Lee, whereas Jeong-su Lee acted as a sub-leader. In case of data for defensive positions Jeong-su Lee was a leading player, and in terms of attacking positions, all of the players excelled in the game and could be evaluated as playing lead roles.

  • Recently, core and neuromuscular training(CNT) is emerging as a clinically relevant tool to improve neuromuscular control and to prevent sports injuries. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a 12 weeks CNT program on the dynamic stability after drop landing. The subjects attempted drop landing onto the force platform on single foot from a 40 cm height distance. The collected data was used to calculate the dynamic stability index. The Dynamic stability index was derived by measuring the medial-lateral stability index(MLSI), anterior-posterior stability index(APSI), and the vertical stability index(VSI). In comparison to the control group, the MLSI and APSI showed no difference, yet, it resulted in higher VSI. The results of this study suggest that CNT is worthwhile to be considered as a way to improve neuromuscular control and to prevent traumatic injuries. However, the results are taking into consideration to discuss the limitations of CNT and suggested future approaches.

  • In an attempt to clarify the influence of lung volume and water temperature on the heart rate response during apneic face immersion in the trained athletes, 10 soccer players were studied while holding their breath as long as possible after full inspiration(TLC), full expiration(RV) or normal breath(FRC) with face immersion in water. The electrocardiogram(Lead II) was recorded before and during each manuever and compared with 20 control subjects. The results are summarized as follows; 1) Resting heart rate was significantly lower in the athletes than that of the control groups. 2) During apneic face immersion, severe bradycardia were observed in both groups and the heart rate was significantly lower in the athletes than that of the control groups. 3) The degree of the bradycardia (maximum percent reduction of heart rate, HRmax.) were inversely propotional to the lung volume and water temperature. In the above results, bradycardial response was more sensitive in the athletes than the control. It was suggested that diving bradycardia was related to the gas content in the lung and reflex from the cold receptor in the face.

  • Researches on mobile robots have been mainly focused on the autonomous navigation and a lot of interesting results have been published so far. Most of applications are, however, fancy, unpractical, and very expensive to be used for 'UN-expensive' purpose. Well-known soccer robot may be an example of unpractical application. Un-autonomous mobile robot has, however, potential for a lot of practical applications. Especially, tele-operation of the un-autonomous mobile robot may the central issue of research. Major research topics for the tele-operated un-autonomous mobile robot include development of a force reflecting joystick for tele-operation and development of a sophisticated algorithm for smooth tele-operation. A new concept named fuzzy command smoothing algorithm is proposed in this paper in order to provide smooth motion to a tele-operated mobile robot. It gives smooth motion command to the mobile robot from possibly abrupt quick turn motion command of the joystick using fuzzy logic. Simulation results verify the usefulness of the proposed algorithm.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the academy sports field for the establishment of advanced sports culture. This study used qualitative research. The research participants were baseball players for 11 years and have been professional baseball players. Another study participant has been a soccer player for eight years. And he has been a football coach for 13 years. The results of this study are as follows. First, the act of entertaining was the form in which parents served sports leaders meals and alcohol. Parents' student athletes had increased chances of playing in the game and were able to receive faithful guidance. Second, the student athletes whose parents did not act of entertaining to the sports leader were discriminated against. The student athletes were harassed by their leaders, their positions changed, and their chances of playing were reduced. Third, parents' student athletes who did not act of entertaining to their leaders either stopped exercising or moved to another school because of discrimination. Eventually, the entertainment culture of academy sports acted as a mechanism to induce sports de-socialization of student athletes, and made students experience a negative aspect of sports culture. As a result, the entertainment culture of academy sports caused discriminatory treatment due to economic inequality. Therefore, the negative entertainment culture of academy sports should be eradicated for the establishment of advanced sports culture.
