It has been reported that FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) can be recycled by separating into layers instead of crushing into powder. F-fiber obtained from roving layer separated from FRP, has bigger tensile strength than the bundle of glass fibers of which FRP was made (more than 90%). SEM image of F-fiber shows the presence of some resin. Under the proposition of usage of F-fiber in the concrete material, tensile strength is examined after soaking in a basic solution (NaOH+KOH). The reaction mechanism of strength loss may be considered as an attack of hydroxide ion ($OH^-$) on a chemical bond of Si-O-Si of glass fiber. The simulation graph of the strength loss data implies certain reaction mechanism. While in the early stage kinetically controlled reaction results in a fast drop of tensile strength, after 30 days dispersion rate of hydroxide ion plays a major role in strength loss. This result is similar to the one for the AR glass. An extrapolation of the graph would make an assumption about the lift time of F-fiber possible.
The solid and protein yields and extraction properties of color pigments were compared for 7 varieties of soybeans during soaking in water at $4-100^{\circ}C$. The varieties investigated were Paldal, Danyeob, Jangbaek, Baegun, Jangyeob and 2 cultivars of Local 1 and Local 2. The Hunter values showed that Jangbaek was the highest in 'L' value while other varieties except Local 1 and Local 2 were comparatively high in 'L' value. Local 1 and Local 2 were low in 'b' value. The yields of solid and protein during water extraction showed that most of solids and proteins were recovered with three consecutive extractions. The cumulated yields were 73.2 % for solid and 83.2 % for protein. Extraction of color pigments of seed coats in $4-100^{\circ}C$ water showed that the extraction rate was very much dependent on extraction time and temperature. A linear relationship of A=aT+b was obtained for equilibrated absorbance(A) and extraction temperature(T). The activation energy calculated from initial extraction rate of cole. pigments and temperature had two different values of low($4-60^{\circ}C$) and high($60-100^{\circ}C$) temperature range.
To determine the impact of artificial tears which include carboxymethyl cellulose on a hydrogel contact lenses. Methods: A contact lenses made of the cross-linking agent, EGDMA (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) and HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) and with added NVP (n-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) and MMA (methyl methacrylate) was evaluated for water content, refractive index, spectral transmittance and contact angle of produced contact lens. Results: The physical properties of the sampled copolymerized polymers showed that water content, refractive index, visible ray transmittance and contact angle were in the range of 26.61%~48.58%, 1.422~1.455, 80.8%~91.4% and $33.93^{\circ}{\sim}65.70^{\circ}$, respectively. In addition, after soaking with artificial tears, the water content, refractive index and contact angle were in the range of 24.46%~48.25%, 1.422~1.457, 77.0%~91.0% and $37.25^{\circ}{\sim}77.33^{\circ}$, respectively. The changes of the physical property depending on hydration time and showed an increase of refractive index and contact angle, decrease of water content and visible ray transmittance. Conclusions: Artificial tears which include carboxymethyl cellulose sodium which is used as a wetting agent influenced water content, refractive index, contact angle and spectral transmittance of a hydrogel contact lenses.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the properties of tteok prepared from white (Samkwang) and brown rice (Heugseol, Heugjinju). The moisture and crude protein contents of rice were 14.89~17.15% and 4.79~6.81%, respectively. The crude lipid and crude ash contents of rice were 0.48~2.66% and 0.39~1.60%, respectively. The water binding capacity of Heugjinju (141.97%) was higher than those of other rice flours. As the soaking time increased, water absorption ability was in the order of Samkwang > Heugseol > Heugjinju. Using a rapid visco analyser (RVA), the initial pasting temperature of Heugseol was the highest, and the peak viscosities of Heugseol were higher than those of other rice flours. The quality characteristics of Tteokbokki tteok were assessed after its preparation by adding different amounts of Heugseol and Heugjinju (0, 5, 10, and 20%, w/w) content. The textural properties (hardness), of Heugseol and Heugseol measured using a texture analyzer, were greater than those of the control. Sensory preference tests revealed that 10% Heugseol and, 10% Heugjinju had the highest scores in appearance, color, and overall acceptability. The sensory test results revealed that Tteokbokki tteok prepared by addition of 10% added brown rice was the best.
Factors affecting germination of seeds in the forms of various environment and chemical compounds. The present study was aim to produced effective seed propagation method of Astilbe koreana (Kom.) Nakai which had expected high value for the cut flower, ornamental and pharmaceutical material. Seed width and length ranged 0.62, 2.22 ㎜, respectively, and weight of thousand seeds was 40.5 ㎎. As result of imbibition test, showed moisture content of fresh seed (2.57%) increased rapidly by water-soaking treatment under 24 hours, recording to maximum value of 29.8%, and expansion of the seed coat was observed. Seed germination was the best at 15℃ and light conditions (40.8%) among temperature and light conditions treated. Percent germination of seeds was improved under the low (15, 20℃) than high temperature (25, 30℃). In addition, the seed was not germinated at dark condition regardless of temperature. Seeds of A. koreana thus seemed that it had low temperature germinability conditions. To improve germination rate, seeds were submerged in various concentrations of growth regulators such as GA3 and kinetin, and minerals as KNO3 and KCl. As a results, KNO3 treatment, regardless of concentrations, promoted germination compared to control. Especially, percent of germination (77.8%), germination energy (96.1%), mean germination time (11.3 days) and T50 (6.5 days) were effectively improved by treatment of KNO3 20 mM.
This study was carried out to find the optimum treatment condition for the improving germination using the plant growth regulators with $GA_3$ and BAP, to Kentucky bluegrass and Tall fescue showing low germination. $GA_3$ treatment was more effective on the germination of Kentucky bluegrass than BAP single treatment or the combination treatment of $GA_3$ and BAP, regardless of their treatment concentration. Seed germinability was 6 days treatment was significantly better than that of 3 days treatment in the experiment for treatment period of the plant growth regulators. When seeds were treated with $1000{\mu}M$ of $GA_3$ for 6 days, on the percent germination was improved as much as between 10% and 38% comparing with the control. In Tall fescue seed, the percent germination was not significantly improved, although it was slightly increased when the plant growth regulators were treated. For the optimum condition, on percent germination was improved as much as 10% comparing with the control of Tall fescue treated with $1000{\mu}M$ of $GA_3$ for 3 days. Percent emergence fur the seeds of Kentucky bluegrass and Tall fescue treated $GA_3$ in the field was improved as much as $8{\sim}9%$ comparing with the control, and mean emergence time $(E_{50})$ was also faster for $1{\sim}2$ days than that of the control. However, dry weight, plant height and root length showed no significant effects, although those were slightly improved more than those of the control.
Hot water treatment that is the most appropriate seed disinfection method for organic vegetable farming was evaluated in this study. Among the leafy vegetable seeds lettuce that was the most sensitive to hot water was suitable to treat at $45^{\circ}C$ for 25 min, while Chinese cabbage and radish seeds were optimally treated at $50^{\circ}C$ for 25 min. The treatments resulted in similar or higher seed germination rate than non-treated seeds and promoted plant growth. In addition, fungi such as Alternaria, Aspergillus, Penicillium, or Mucor grown on the seeds were suppressed over 90% and the bacterial growth on lettuce seeds reduced 98.5% by the treatment. Among the fruit vegetable seeds pumpkin that was vulnerable to hot water was suitable to treat at $50^{\circ}C$ for 15 min, while cucumber and hot pepper seeds revealed optimum treatment at $50^{\circ}C$ for 25 min as chinese cabbage and radish. The treatment also showed similar or higher seed germination rate and growth than non-treated seeds. Furthermore, fungi such as Rhizopus, Aspergillus, Penicillium or Mucor grown on the seeds reduced from 72.0% to 95.4%. The bacterial growth on cucumber and red pepper seeds was suppressed from 65.5% to 86.0% by the treatment. Results indicated that the hot water treatment is practical for disinfection of organic vegetable seeds and the optimum temperature and soaking time varied among the seeds.
Recently, energy drink consumption is rising. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of energy drink on enamel erosion by measuring pH and titratable acidity in energy drink on the market. pH and titrable acidity in drink were measured by selecting 3 kinds of energy drinks with high sales volume among energy drinks on the domestic market. To evaluate the erosion level of normal enamel, the erosion level was measured by using a surface micro-hardness after soaking it in drink for 1 minute, for 3 minutes, for 5 minutes, for 10 minutes, and for 30 minutes while using 10 pieces of bovine specimens per each group. All the energy drinks were containing citric acid. As for pH in drinks, pH of Burn intense was the lowest with $2.51{\pm}0.01$. Hotsix stood at $3.16{\pm}0.01$. Redbull stood at $3.37{\pm}0.00$. In pH 5.5, the titrable acidity of Burn intense was 3.59 ml. Redbull was 3.43 ml. Hotsix was 1.92 ml. All the energy drinks were reduced the surface micro-hardness according to a rise in time of immersion. Following the 30-minute treatment in drinks, the surface micro-hardness value was indicated to be the lowest in Redbull with $119.72{\pm}15.16$ VHN. It was shown to be in order of Hotsix $208.75{\pm}10.99$ and Burn intense $210.47{\pm}8.01$. Hotsix and Burn intense had no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). Accordingly, all the energy drinks, which were used in the experiment, caused the tooth enamel erosion. Among them, Redbull led to the largest enamel erosion. Thus, energy drink containing citric acid and low pH can cause the enamel erosion. However, it is thought to be necessarily progressed by considering factors of influencing etching a little more diversely by additionally analyzing intraoral factors, acid kinds, and even the content in calcium, phosphate and fluoride.

Common sowing method of italian ryegrass (IRG) has been using the backpack seed sprayer (BSS) in Korea. It has weak point including a hard work and a little sowing area. This study was conducted to find out the effects of sowing IRG using unmanned helicopter (UH) under the established rice field. We checked the labour saving of sowing IRG and the growth and yield of rice after using IRG as forage crop. Two sowing implements(using by UH and backpack seed sprayer (BSS)) were tested for the ability of sowing IRG. For proper pretreatment of IRG seeds for aerial sowing using with UH, we tested one-day soaking seeds, iron-coated seeds, coated seeds sold in stores and untreated seeds. Aerial sowing of IRG seeds using UH was tested under the speed 10 km/h and flying altitude 3~4m. We tried to confirm the effects on rice growth in a paddy field after IRG had been used as forage in mid May. In 6 hours of seeding per day, UH had a seeding area of 21.8 hectares, three times wider than BSS. UH had a decrease of about 63 percent of sowing-seed cost in comparison with BSS. In the IRG aerial sowing using UH, coating seeds had the wider sowing width of 5~6 meter than 3~4 meter untreated seeds. Residual dry matter of IRG after using forage had 4.5 ton per hectare and 20 percent of top dry matter. The amount of nitrogen remaining in residual IRG in the soil was 12 kg per hectare, and the other nutrients such as calcium and potassium was incorporated into the soil with less than 10 kg/ha. The rice yield after the harvesting IRG was 5 percent higher than that of rice single cropping. Consequently, IRG sowing using UH was effective in reducing sowing time and sowing cost compared with conventional methods and, it is considered that there is a positive effect on the rice cultivation compared to rice single cropping.

Primed seeds germinate faster and uniformly, since these have already started imbibition and metabolism requiring to complete germination. Several factors such as solution composition, osmotic potential, and treatment duration affect seed priming response. Water potentials of priming solution and germination response of primed seed were investigated to clarify the effects different inorganic salt types and the duration. Pepper seeds were primed in osmotic solutions that were osmotic potential ranged -1.54 to -0.45 MPa in an aerated solution of polyethylene glycol 8000 (PEG; 17%, 22%, 27%), and inorganic salt solution of $KNO_3$, $K_2SO_4$, and $Na_2SO_4$ (100, 200, 300mM) in aerated condition. The seeds were treated at $20^{\circ}C$ for 4, 6 day (D) and stepwise duration combined concentration of 100mM (2 or 4 days) and 300mM(2 or 4days). After soaking treatment, seeds were washed with distilled water and then were dried to approximately 6% moisture content in dry chamber at $25^{\circ}C$. The germination of seed was characterized by ISAT rules at $20^{\circ}C/30^{\circ}C$ and $15^{\circ}C$. Total germination percentage (GP), mean germination time (MGT), germination uniformity (GU), germination rate (GR), and health seedling percent (HS) were calculated on the germinated seed in a 14-day period. Seed water potential (${\psi}$) was correlated with water potential of priming solution ($r^2=0.84$). The effect of seed priming on germination varies with inorganic salt and organic agents (PEG). Germination percentage (GP, 77 and 73%), GR (21.3 and $19.4 %{\cdot}day^{-1}$), and HS (58 and 52 %) was greatest and lowest MGT (4.2 and 4.8 day) when they were primed in 100mM $K_2SO_4$ (${\psi}=-0.45MPa$), and 100mM $KNO_3$ (${\psi}=-0.52MPa$) for 6 days compared to untreated control (67% GP, $19.7%{\cdot}day^{-1}\;GR$, 18% HS, and 10.8 day MGT) in $15^{\circ}C$ chamber. Water potential less then -1.2MPa of osmotic solution resulted lower GP, GR and HS and in $K_2SO_4$ and $KNO_3$. However, stepwise treatment of water potential that changed solution as 100mM for 4 D + 300mM for 2 D or 300mM for 4 D + 100mM for 2 D) were not better than single concentration alone in germination characteristics.
