  • Increased evidences reveal that the global climate change adversely affect on the environment. Smart grid system is one of the ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the electricity generation sector. Since 2013, Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has installed smart grid station in KEPCO office buildings. The goal of this paper is two folds. One is to quantify the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions through smart grid stations installed in KEPCO office buildings as a part of pilot project. Among components of smart grid stations, this research focused on the photovoltaic power system (PV) and energy storage system (ESS). The other is to estimate the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when PV is applied on individual houses. Results show that greenhouse gas emissions reduce 5.8~11.3% of the emissions generated through the electricity usage after PV is applied in KEPCO office buildings. The greenhouse gas emissions reduction from ESS is not apparent. When PV of 200~500 W is installed in individual houses, annual greenhouse gas emission reduction in 2016 is expected to be approximately $2.2{\sim}5.4million\;tCO_2-eq$, equivalent to 6~15% of greenhouse gas emissions through the electricity usage in the house hold sector. The saving of annual electricity cost in the individual house through PV of 200 W and 500 W is expected to be 47~179 thous and KRW and 123~451 thousand KRW, respectively. Results analyzed in this study show the environmental effect of the smart grid station. In addition, the results can be further used as guidance in implementing similar projects.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive institutional improvement methods for promoting the Damaged Area Restoration Project in greenbelts. The current status of greenbelts in Gyeonggi-do, where greenbelts are extensively distributed was analyzed, and the relevant laws and regulations were reviewed to suggest measures to promote the restoration project. The area of damaged areas within greenbelts in Gyeonggi-do was 6,121,024 m2, accounting for about 0.52% of the total area of greenbelts, and more than 80% was found to be located in Namyangju (55.49%), Hanam (16.48%), and Siheung (8.68%). Various measures to improve the policy were examined as follows: reducing the minimum size of the restoration project area; adjusting baseline of recognizing range of damaged areas; introducing the right of claim for land sale; allowing long-term unexecuted urban parks to be replaced as alternative sites for parks and green spaces; simplifying administrative procedures; and allowing public participation. All of them are expected to promote the restoration project within greenbelts. In results, when the minimum size of area for the restoration project was reduced from 10,000 m2 into 5,000 m2, 3,000 m2 and 2,000 m2, the ratio of the number of combinable lots to the total number of lots increased from 4.4% to 18.8%, 38.8%, and 55.9% respectively in Namyangju. Morever, when the recognizable ranges of the restoration project were extended to the structures obtaining building permit as of March 30, 2016 and obtaining use approvals before December, 2017, the number of applicable lots increased by 5.1% and 9.2% respectively.

  • Although the rate of city gas supply in South Korea has grown significantly, the fields related to gas meters have not yet escaped from the initial method of service (e.g. measurement, safety checks, billing, etc). As smart gas meters are actively developed and researched, the introduction of smart gas meters requires rational performance evaluation methods and standards to verify reliability and safety. The purpose of this paper is to make a prototype of the performance evaluation to test the performance of the smart gas meter and to derive the performance evaluation method by conducting the demonstration operation so that the smart gas meter can be smoothly distributed in South Korea.

  • Recently various types of disaster monitoring system using smart-phones are under active studying. In this paper, we propose a system that automatically performs the disaster and fire detection. Additionally we implement the Arduino-based smart image sensor system in the web platform. When a fire is detected, an SMS is sent to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency. In order to improve fire detection probability, we proposed a smart Arduino fire detection sensor simulation which searches the smart sensor inference algorithm using fuzzy rules.

  • Agricultural reservoirs are important facilities for storing or managing water for the purpose of securing agricultural water, creating and expanding agricultural production bases, and using them to increase agricultural production. In particular, the Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC) manages agricultural reservoirs scattered across the country, and officially recognizes and distributes hydrological data to increase their public utilization and aims to improve the value of water resources. Data on the water level of agricultural reservoirs are important. However, errors such as missing values and outliners limit utilization of the data in various fields of research and industry. Therefore, water quality data measures should be devised to increase reliability. this study categorized different error types and looked at automatic correction methods to enhance the reliability of the vast hydrological data. In addition, the water level data corrected from errors were compared to the reference hydrologic data through expert judgment in accordance with the quality control procedure, and the most appropriate measures were verified. As KRC manages more agricultural reservoirs than any other institution, the proposed method of efficient and automatic water level data correction in this study is expected to increase the availability and reliability of the hydrological data.

  • The new information service has been demanded due to the recent mobile internet activation, and the government is promoting the activation of the private use of the public data by putting up the Government 3.0. According to government policy, many public sectors provide public data, but the railway sector is inferior to other public sector. In the case of national railway corporation, urban railway is now operated by 14 corporations such as Seoul Metro through the nation and high-speed railway is now operated by Korea Railroad Corporation and Supreme Railways. It is very difficult to standardize and integrate data due to mutual interests of national railway corporation. This paper describes a way to standardize and integrate rail passengers information collected through research project.

  • In recent years, the service life of major SOC facilities in south korea has exceeded 30 years, and rapid aging is expected within the next 10 years. This has led to a growing recognition of the need for proactive maintenance of these facilities. Consequently, there have been numerous research efforts to introduce smart inspection technologies into maintenance. However, the current system relies primarily on manpower for safety inspections and diagnostics, and on-site surveys rely on visual inspections. Manpower inspections can be time-consuming, and subjective errors may occur during result analysis. In the case of tunnels, there are disadvantages, such as the loss of social overhead capital due to partial closures during inspections. Therefore, institutionalizing smart safety inspections is essential, considering specific measures like using advanced equipment and updating qualifications for experts. Furthermore, it is necessary to verify and validate safety inspection results using advanced equipment before instituting changes. This could be achieved through national-level official research programs and the operation of verification and validation institutions. If smart inspection technology is introduced into maintenance, routine inspections of SOC facilities, such as tunnels, will become feasible. As a result, maintenance technology capable of early detection and proactive response to safety incidents caused by changes in facility conditions is anticipated.

  • After the spread of the data collection devices such as smart meters, energy data is increasingly collected in a variety of ways, and its importance continues to grow. However, due to technical or practical limitations, errors such as missing or outliers in the data occur during data collection process. Especially in the case of customer-related data, billing problems may occur, so energy companies are conducting various research to process such data. In addition, efforts are being made to create added value from data, which makes it difficult to provide such services unless reliability of data is guaranteed. In order to solve these challenges, this research analyzes prior research related to bad data processing specifically in the energy field, and propose new missing value processing methods to improve the reliability and field utilization of energy data.
