  • We present a method to determine nitrogen abundance ratios with respect to iron ([N/Fe]) from molecular CN-band features observed in low-resolution (R ~ 2000) stellar spectra obtained by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST). Various tests are carried out to check the systematic and random errors of our technique, and the impact of signal-to-noise (S/N) ratios of stellar spectra on the determined [N/Fe]. We find that the uncertainty of our derived [N/Fe] is less than 0.3 dex for S/N ratios larger than 10 in the ranges Teff = [4000, 6000] K, log g = [0.0, 3.5], [Fe/H] = [-3.0, 0.0], [C/Fe] = [-1.0, +4.5], and [N/Fe] = [-1.0, +4.5], the parameter space that we are interested in to identify N-enhanced stars in the Galactic halo. A star-by-star comparison with a sample of stars with [N/Fe] estimates available from the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE) also suggests a similar level of uncertainty in our measured [N/Fe], after removing its systematic error. Based on these results, we conclude that our method is able to reproduce [N/Fe] from low-resolution spectroscopic data, with an uncertainty sufficiently small to discover N-rich stars that presumably originated from disrupted Galactic globular clusters.

  • Driving tests using model plastic piles with different hammer cushion materials were performed in order to evaluate the efficiency of energy transfer ratio from the hammer, degree of vibration of the surrounding ground and noise due to impacting. A small pile driving analyzer (PDA) was composed using straingages and Hopkinson bar which is measuring force signal and pile-head velocity. The hammer cushion (cap block) materials used for the model driving tests were commercial Micarta, plywood, polyurethane, rubber (SBR) and silicone rubber. The highest energy transfer ratio was obtained from Micarta in the same soil and driving conditions. Micarta was followed by polyurethane, plywood, rubber and silicone in descending order. The more efficient energy transfdr ratio of the hammer cushion materials became, the bigger average noisy (sound) level was found. In addition, Micarta and polyurethane provided bigger bearing capacities than other materials compared in the same soil and driving conditions in which the static loading tests were performed at the end of driving.

  • Since speech impairment is prevalent in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), speech recognition systems suitable for these patients are needed. In this paper, we propose a speech recognition system that effectively recognizes the speech of patients with PD. The speech recognition system is firstly pre-trained with the Globalformer using the speech data from healthy people, and then fine-tuned using relatively small amount of speech data from the patient with PD. For this analysis, we used the speech dataset of healthy people built by AI hub and that of patients with PD collected at Inha University Hospital. As a result of the experiment, the proposed speech recognition system recognized the speech of patients with PD with Character Error Rate (CER) of 22.15 %, which was a better result compared to other methods.

  • The Balloon-borne Investigation of Temperature and Speed of Electrons in the corona (BITSE) is a technology demonstration mission launched in 2019 to observe the solar corona from ~3 Rs to 15 Rs at four wavelengths (393.5, 405.0, 398.7, and 423.4 nm). Preliminary analysis shows that BITSE imaged the solar minimum corona with the equatorial streamers on the east and west limbs. The narrow streamers observed by BITSE are in good agreement with the geometric properties obtained by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) coronagraphs in the overlapping physical domain. In spite of the small signal-to-noise ratio we were able to obtain the temperature and flow speed of the western steamer. In the heliocentric distance range 4 - 7 Rs on the western streamer, we obtained a temperature of ~ 1.0 ± 0.3 MK and a flow speed of ~ 260 km s-1 with a large uncertainty interval.

  • Background: Cold atmospheric plasma is a novel innovative approach for wound care, and it is currently underrepresented in veterinary medicine. Objectives: To investigate the efficacy and safety of using cold atmospheric microwave plasma (CAMP) as an adjunct therapy for wound healing in dogs and cats. Methods: Wound healing outcomes were retrospectively analyzed using clinical records of client-owned dogs and cats who were first managed through standard wound care alone (pre-CAMP period) and subsequently via CAMP therapy (CAMP period). The degree of wound healing was estimated based on wound size and a modified wound scoring system. Results: Of the 27 acute and chronic wounds included in the analysis, 81.48% showed complete healing after the administration of CAMP as an adjunct therapy to standard care. Most wounds achieved complete healing in < 5 weeks. Compared with the pre-CAMP period, the rate of wound healing significantly increased every week in the CAMP period in terms of in wound size (first week, p < 0.001; second week, p = 0.012; third week, p < 0.001) and wound score (first week, p < 0.001; second week, p < 0.001; third week, p = 0.001). No adverse events were noted except for mild discomfort and transient erythema. Conclusions: CAMP is a well-tolerated therapeutic option with immense potential to support the treatment of wounds of diverse etiology in small animal practice. Further research is warranted to establish specific criteria for CAMP treatment according to wound characteristics.

  • In recent automated manufacturing systems, compressed air-based pneumatic cylinders have been widely used for basic perpetration including picking up and moving a target object. They are relatively categorized as small machines, but many linear or rotary cylinders play an important role in discrete manufacturing systems. Therefore, sudden operation stop or interruption due to a fault occurrence in pneumatic cylinders leads to a decrease in repair costs and production and even threatens the safety of workers. In this regard, this study proposed a fault detection technique by developing a time-variant deep learning model from multivariate sensor data analysis for estimating a current health state as four levels. In addition, it aims to establish a real-time fault detection system that allows workers to immediately identify and manage the cylinder's status in either an actual shop floor or a remote management situation. To validate and verify the performance of the proposed system, we collected multivariate sensor signals from a rotary cylinder and it was successful in detecting the health state of the pneumatic cylinder with four severity levels. Furthermore, the optimal sensor location and signal type were analyzed through statistical inferences.

  • In this paper, we present a noise analysis and measurement results of a bio-radar system that can detect human heartbeat and respiration signals. The noise analysis including various phase noise effects is very important in designing the bio-radar system, since the frequency difference between the received signal and local oscillator is very small and the received power is very low. All of the noise components in a bio-radar system are considered from the point of view of SNR. From this analysis, it can be concluded that the phase noise due to antenna leakage is a dominant factor and is a function of range correlation. Therefore, the phase noise component with range correlation effect, which is the most important noise contribution, is measured using the measurement setup and compared with the calculated results. From the measurement results, our measurement setup can measure a closed-in phase noise of a free-running oscillator. Based on these results, it is possible to design a 2.4 GHz bio-radar system quantitatively which has a detection range of 50 cm and low power of 1 mW without additional PLL circuits.

  • This paper presents the simulation design and analysis of Integrated Logistics System(ILS) which is operated by using the AGV(Automated Guided Vehicle). To maximize the operation performances of ILS with AGV, many parameters should be considered such as the number, velocity, and dispatching rule of AGV, part types, scheduling, and buffer sizes. We established the design of experiment in a way of Orthogonal Array in order to consider (1)maximizing the throughput; (2)maximizing the vehicle utilization; (3)minimizing the congestion; and (4)maximizing the Automated Storage and Retrieval System(AS/RS) utilization among various critical factors. Furthermore, we performed the optimization by using the simulation-based analysis and Evolution Strategy(ES). As a result, Orthogonal Array which is conducted far fewer than ES significantly saved not only the time but the same outcome when compared after validation test on the result from the two methods. Therefore, this approach ensures the confidence and provides better process for quick analysis by specifying exact experiment outcome even though it provides small number of experiment.

  • By considering the definition and application of resolution as well as the concept and theory of SAR, the essential contents of the SAR design and analysis are described. This paper is to compare and analyze the resolution performance capability of three techniques for achieving azimuth resolution such as the real aperture, the unfocused and the focused techniques, through the simulation. Simulation is performed to make the restricted conditions for the unfocused technique that can be implemented by the less commputing load of signal processingand the lower cost. Through the mission analysis, the use of SAR image can be applied for estimation of whole situation at the regional area in the field of military demands for tactical purpose as well as civilian demands for the damage of disaster. RPV and sall or medium aircraft are selected to carry the SAR for these purposes and the proper resolution turns ou 5~15 m. The trade-off study of variables through the simulations results in the proper conditions such that range is less 3, 000 m, Wavelength is 1~10 m, and the raw signals and results processed by three techniques for two point targets are exhibited undr such conditions. Therefore, at some points, the result of this paper si proposed for useful applications of unforcused technique in the restricted conditions except the identification of the small target at a long range re- quired for high resolution.

  • Although many swine farms continuously vaccinated to sow to prevent Porcine epidemic diarrhea(PED), PED has occurred annually in swine herds in Jeonbuk province, Korea. In the present study, the small intestine and feces samples from 17 farms where severe watery diarrhea and death of newborn piglets occurred in 2019 were collected, amplified by RT-PCR and determined the complete nucleotide sequences of the spike (S) glycoprotein genes of nine Jeonbuk PEDV isolates. The spike (S) glycoprotein is an important determinant for molecular characterization and genetic relationship of PEDV. These nine complete S gene isolates were compared with other PEDV reference strains to identify the molecular diversity, phylogenetic relationships and antigenicity analysis. 9 field strains share 98.5~100% homologies with each other at the nucleotide sequence level and 97.3~100% homologies with each other at the amino acid level. The nine Jeonbuk PEDV isolates were classified into G2b group including a genetic specific signal, S-indels (insertion and deletion of S gene). In addition, comparisons the neutralizing epitopes of S gene between 9 field strains and domestic vaccine strains of Korea mutated 12-15 amino acids with SM-98-1 (G1a group) and mutated 0-3 amino acids with QIAP1401 (G2b group). Therefore, the development of G2b-based live vaccines will have to be expedited to ensure effective prevention of endemic PED in Korea. In addition, we will need to be prepared with periodic updates of preventive vaccines based on the PEDV variants for the re-emergence of a virulent strain.
