증기열 전처리공정을 이용한 유기성 슬러지의 건조 및 성형연료화 (Dehydration and RDF Production of Organic Sludge with Hydrothermal Pre-treatment Process)

  • This paper suggests the dehydration and RDF(Refuse Derived Fuel) production of organic sludge, livestock manure and sewerage sludge causing environmental problems, with hydrothermal pre-treatment process. The renewable technology from the organic wastes must involve short treatment time required, reusable energy source, anti-odor and viruses, low cost for the treatment, and well-fertilization. The hydrothermal pre-treatment process promotes to evaporate moisture in the sludge after being shortly treated in a reactor, which is supplied steam and heat by an external boiler, due to the pressure with steam breaks the cell walls of the sludge, so this process removes the internal moisture of the cell. Then, the treated sludge(solid-state) is mixed with waste vinyls called RDF(6,706kcal/kg).

  • Industrial and municipal wastewater treatment plants produce large amounts of sludge cakes for final disposal. This problem is an inevitable drawback inherent to the activated sludge process. Both the reduction of the amount of sludge produced and improvement of its dewaterability are presently very important issue also in Korea. So many pre-treatment processes have been developed in order to improve sludge dewatering efficiency. In this study the effects of hydrogen peroxide and paper sludge mixing processes were considered as reasonable alternatives to enhance sludge dewaterability. The CST of sludge was significantly decreased, and dewaterability improved by hydrogen peroxide oxidation treatment. The optimum dosage of hydrogen peroxide was proved to be 10mg/g-TS (when TS of sludge was 2%) with the conditions of pH 4 and only 1~2 minutes of reaction time. The mixing of paper sludge with sewage sludge was turned out to be very effective in reduction of sludge cake; 30% of sludge cake reduction was accomplished. Optimum mixing ratio of paper sludge was about 30%(v/v). This process also could save 25% of polymer to be required. These two alternatives are somewhat realistic, but it was concluded that paper sludge mixing process will be the best choice.

다양한 전처리에 따른 중온혐기-고온호기 복합 슬러지 처리공정의 슬러지 처리효율 및 메탄 생성량 변화 (Effects of diverse Pre-treatment methods on the sludge digestion and methane production in combined mesophilic anaerobic and thermophilic aerobic sludge digestion process)

  • 본 연구에서는 유입 슬러지에 다양한 전처리 방법을 적용하여 전처리 방법이 중온혐기-고온호기 복합 슬러지 처리 공정의 슬러지 소화효율과 메탄가스 생성량에 미치는 영향을 비교 검증하였다. 실험실 규모의 슬러지 소화장치를 제작하여 서로 다른 유입 슬러지 전처리방법을 적용하여 4단계로 실험을 진행하였다. 1단계에서는 전처리를 하지 않은 슬러지를 공급하였고, 2, 3, 4단계에서는 각각 열처리, 열-알칼리처리, 장기 알칼리 처리(7일)를 거친 유입 슬러지를 공급하였다. 실험 결과, 1단계에서 4단계까지 진행되는 동안 총COD 제거율은 44%에서 76%까지 증가하였으며, 메탄 생성량 또한 101mL/L/day에서 165, 256mL/L/day까지 크게 증가하였다. 한편, 4단계에서는 7일간의 장기 알칼리 처리를 하였음에도 불구하고 3단계에 비해 총COD 제거율과 메탄 생성량이 증가하지 않았다. 결론적으로, 유입 슬러지의 전처리를 통해 복합 슬러지 처리 공정의 슬러지 제거 효율과 메탄생성량을 크게 증가시킬 수 있었으며, 여러 가지 전처리 방법 중 열-알칼리 처리법이 가장 효율적임을 실험결과를 통해 알 수 있었다.

혼합 소화공정에서 내부반송과 다양한 전처리를 통한 하수 슬러지 처리 (Sewage Sludge Treatment with Internal Recirculation and Diverse Pre-treatment Methods Using Combined Digestion Process)

  • 본 연구에서는 유입 슬러지에 다양한 전처리 방법과 고액분리장치를 이용한 유출수의 잉여슬러지를 농축 후 내부반송을 적용하여, 중온혐기-고온호기 혼합 슬러지 처리 공정의 슬러지 소화효율과 메탄가스 생성량에 미치는 영향을 비교 검증하였다. 실험실 규모의 혼합 소화공정장치를 제작하여 서로 다른 유입 슬러지 전처리방법을 적용하여 5단계로 실험을 진행하였다. 1단계에서는 열-알칼리처리 전처리를 하여 슬러지를 공급하였고, 2, 3, 4단계에서는 유출수로부터 농축된 잉여슬러지의 내부반송과 각각 열-알칼리처리, 열처리, 알칼리 처리(7일)를 거친 유입 슬러지를 공급하였다. 마지막 5단계에서는 전처리를 하지 않은 슬러지를 공급하였다. 실험 결과, 1단계에서 4단계까지 진행되는 동안 Volatile Suspended Solid (VSS) 제거율은 유입 슬러지 전처리와 내부반송을 적용하는 경우 크게 증가하였으며, 메탄생성량 또한 2단계에서 슬러지 내부반송과 열-알칼리처리 전처리 적용의 경우 285 mL/L/day까지 크게 증가하였다. 한편, 5단계에서 전처리를 하지 않은 슬러지를 공급하였을 경우 VSS 제거율과 메탄 생성량이 크게 감소하였다. 결론적으로, 유입 슬러지의 열-알칼리처리 전처리와 유출수의 농축 잉여슬러지의 내부반송을 통해 복합 슬러지 처리 공정의 슬러지 제거 효율과 메탄생성량을 크게 증가시킬 수 있었다.

활성슬러지 하수처리시설 운영 및 유지관리를 위한 시스템다이내믹스 모델의 모의에 관한 연구 (Simulations of a System Dynamics Model for Operations and Maintenance of Activated-Sludge Wastewater Treatment Plants)

  • In this paper, simulation methods of the system dynamics model developed by Das et al. (1997) for activated-sludge wastewater treatment plants are illustrated in an attempt to determine the operating rules and the policies related to capacity expansion of an activated-sludge wastewater treatment plant. For existing conditions, the analyses were performed by varying activated-sludge return rate to observe changes in effluent water quality and treatment efficiency. The effluent water quality is also analyzed for various average daily inflow conditions and activated-sludge return rates. As a result, without expanding the aeration tank, maximum average daily inflow that can satisfy the effluent water quality standard of BOD $0.02kg/m^3$ was determined as $2,840m^3/hr$, subject to 100% of activated-sludge return rate while other factors remain constant. When the activated-sludge return rate is less than 100%, expansion of the aeration tank is necessary and minimum sizes of the aeration tank to satisfy the effluent water quality standard were determined for various activated-sludge return rates. In addition, the total operating and maintenance as well as unit treatment cost regression equations for activated-sludge wastewater treatment plants are suggested by using the cost data that are obtained from Water and Wastewater Division, Ministry of Environment. The regression analyses showed that the economies of scale phenomena exist in the operating and maintenance costs of activated-sludge wastewater treatment plants.

  • The quantity of residuals generated from water treatment plants depends upon the raw water quality, dosage of chemicals used, performance of the treatment process, method of sludge removal, efficiency of sedimentation, and backwashing frequency. Sludge production by the physical separation of SS occurs under quiescent conditions in the primary clarifier, where suspended solids are allowed to settle and to consolidate on the clarifier bottom. Raw primary sludge results when the settled solids are hydraulically removed from the tank. The relative solid and liquid fractions of a slurry are most commonly described by the solids concentration, expressed as mg/L or percent solids. The purpose of the present investigation is to estimate a suitability on the design capacities of residuals treatment facilities by the quantity of dewatered sludge generated from water treatment plants.

  • Petroleum industry produces one of the popular hazardous waste known as Petroleum Sludge. The treatment and disposal of petroleum sludge has created a major challenge in recent years. This review provides insights into various approaches involved in the treatment, and disposal of petroleum sludge. Various methods used in the treatment and disposal of petroleum sludge such as incineration, stabilization/solidification, oxidation, and bio-degradation are explained fully and other techniques utilized in oil recovery from petroleum sludge such as solvent extraction, centrifugation, surfactant EOR, freeze/thaw, pyrolysis, microwave irradiation, electro-kinetic method, ultrasonic irradiation and froth flotation were discussed. The pros and cons of these methods were critically considered and a recommendation for economically useful alternatives to disposal of this unfriendly material was presented.

  • A sludge treatment system for introducing the waste water mixture with paint sludge from the water bath of paint booth and for recycling cleaned water to paint booth after sludge separation is developed. Floated sludge is introduced from the water surface in the bath by using floating-skimmer, and is conveyed by pump to the centrifugal separator where sludge and cleaned water are separated. From the operation results of the present sludge treatment systems applied in actual paint booths, paint sludge can be separated automatically and effectively from water bath with its water content of $60-70\%$, and sludge-free clean water is returned to paint booth.

하수 슬러지 농축 및 탈수성에 미치는 오존의 영향 (Effect of Ozone Injection on Dewaterability and Thickening of Sewage Sludge)

  • It is required to propose an alternatives for appropriate sludge treatment owing to persistent construction of sewage treatment plant and increase of sewage sludge quantity. In order to treat sludge more efficiently, the methods which reduce the cost of sludge treatment have been studied such as sludge reduction and conditioning. Especially ozone treatment reduces solid quantity and improves separation of solid-liquid at the same time. Therefore ozone treatment have a positive effect on reduction and stabilization of sludge. So, this study applied ozone to sewage sludge and induced cell destruction of sludge. By comparing with the correlation between thickening and dewatering, and evaluating moisture content and solubilization of cake, this study verificates the effect of process improvement for ozone pre-treatment. In J-STP case, according to ozone dose solid flux increased about 12 times from $1kg/m^2{\cdot}h$ to $12kg/m^2{\cdot}h$. Also this plant were capable to shorten thickening time from 40 minutes to 6~7 minutes. Thus it is expected to reduce volume and retention time of thickener. On pH effect factor, dewatering at pH4 was more than at pH11, $3.05{\times}10^{11}$ and $3.82{\times}10^{11}(m/kg)$. But effect of pH was analogous to ozone, $2.81{\times}10^{11}(m/kg)$. The effect of pH on thickening was similar to law sludge, $0.68(kg/m^2{\cdot}h)$, and the effect of ozone injection on thickening was the biggest, $3.45(kg/m^2{\cdot}h)$. The COD solubilization rate improved from about 5 to 30%. So it is judged that we are able to utilize most solubilized sludge to another sewage treatment plants.
