촉매-코로나방전을 이용한 NOx제거 특성 (The Characteristic of NOx Removal Using Catalyst-Corona Discharge)

  • 우리가 생활하는 거의 모든 곳에서 발생하는 슬러지(sludge)는 악취, 토양오염 등 많은 문제점을 가지고 있으며, 대부분의 폐기물은 매립 또는 소각에 의해 처리되고 있으나 슬러지의 경우 두 가지 방법 모두 심각한 문제점을 가지고 있어, 대체 처리방법의 개발이 시급한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 그 슬러지를 NOx제거용 촉매 펠렛(Pellet)재료로 재활용하기 위한 가능성을 타진하기 위하여 수돗물 정수장에서 발생되는 슬러지로 펠렛을 제작하여 $BaTiO_3$ 펠렛과 하이브리드 구조로 NOx제거용 플라즈마 반응기를 제작하였고, specific energy, 전압인가 방법, 슬러지의 양, 산소농도 변화에 따른 NOx제거 특성을 측정하고 슬러지 펠렛의 영향을 측정하고 분석하였다.

Hybrid type 반응조에서의 혐기성 슬러지의 탈질(I): 초산을 기질로 사용한 경우 (Denitrification of Anaerobic Sludge in Hybrid type Anaerobic Reactor(I): Acetate as Substrate)

  • In this study, it was attempted to remove nitrate and carbon in a single-stage reactor using acetate as substrate. Hybrid type upflow sludge baffled filter reactor was adopted using anaerobic sludge. Sludge bed in the bottom of reactor was intended to remove carbon and nitrate by denitrification and methanogenesis. And floating media in the upper part of reactor were intended to remove remaining carbon which was not removed due to the inhibition of nitrogen oxide on methane producing bacteria. The reactor removed over 96% of COD and most of nitrate with volumetric loading rate of $4.0kgCOD/m^3{\cdot}day$, hydraulic retention time of 24hr, 4,000mgCOD/L, and $266mgNO_3-N/L$. Nitrate in anaerobic sludge was converted to nitrogen gas(denitrification) or ammonia (ammonification) according to pH of influent, COD removal efficiency was easily affected by the change of volumetric loading rates and nitrate concentration. And when influent pH was about 4.7, most nitrate changed to ammonia while when influent pH was about 6.8~7.0, most nitrate denitrified independent of $COD/NO_3-N$ ratio. Most granules were gray and a few were black. In gray-colored granule, black inner side was covered with gray substance and SEM illustrated Methanoccoci type microorganisms which were compact spherical shape. Anaerobic filter removed residual COD effectively which was left in sludge bed due to the inhibition of nitrogen oxide.

  • In this experiment, an attempt to use the sludge pellets as catalyst for NO removal from simulated gas is experimentally investigated by using cylinder type reactor and packed-bed reactor. An experimental investigation has been conducted for NO concentration of 50[ppm], 100[ppm], 200[ppm] balanced with air, a gas flow rate of 5[1/min]. Ac voltage to discharge the gases was supplied. In the result, NOx removal rate in packed bed reactor is higher than that in cylinder type reactor. it is thought that plasma density in contact point of BaTiO$_3$ is significantly higher than that in cylinder reactor.

$BaTiO_3$-슬러지 Packed-bed형 반응기에서 $NO_x$제거에 미치는 슬러지의 영향 (Effect of Sludge Pellets on $NO_x$ REmoval in $BaTiO_3$-sludge Packed-bed Reactor)

  • In this paper, in order to investigate the catalytic effect of the sludge exhausted from waterworks on NO$_{x}$ removal, we measure NO removal characteristics with and without sludge pellets in BaTiO$_3$-sludge packed-bed reactor of plate-plate geometry. NO initial concentration is 50 ppm balanced with air and a gas flow rate is 5ι/min. Gas temperature is changed from 25 to 10$0^{\circ}C$ to investigate the role of sludge pellet on removing active oxygen species and NO$_2$. BaTiO$_3$pellets is filled for coronal discharge at upstream of reactor and sludge pellets is filled for catalytic effect at downstream of reactor. The volume percent of sludge pellets to BaTiO$_3$pellets is changed from 0% to 100% and AC voltage is supplied to the reactor for discharging simulated gases. In the results, when sludge pellets is put at the downstream of plasma reactor, NO removal rate is slightly increased. However, NO$_2$and $O_3$ as by-products during NO removal is significantly decreased from 51ppm without sludge pellets to 5 ppm with sludge pellets and from 50 ppm without sludge pellets to 0.004ppm with sludge pellets, respectively. Therefore, NO$_{x}$(NO+NO$_2$) removal rate is increased up to 93%. It is thought that sludge pellet maybe react with active oxygen species and NO$_2$ generated by corona discharge in surface of BaTiO$_3$pellets, the then NO$_2$O$_3$as by-products are considerably decreased. When we increase gas temperature from room temperature to 10$0^{\circ}C$, NO removal rate is decreased, while NO$_2$ concentration is independent on gas temperature. These result suggest that the removal mechanism of active oxygen species and NO$_2$in sludge pellet is not absorption, but chemical reaction. Therefore we expect that sludge pellets exhausted for waterworks could be used as catalyst for NO$_{x}$ removal with high removal rate and low by-product.oduct.

염색폐수 처리성능에 대한 호기성 고정 및 유동층 생물막공법과 회전매체를 가진 완전혼합 활성슬러지 공법의 비교연구 (A comparative study of dyeing wastewater treatment capability for Aerobic Packed/Fluidized-Bed and Moving Media Complete Mixing Activated Sludge system)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate capability of dyeing wastewater treatment for 3 type reactors. These reactors were Packed Bed Reactor(PBR), Fluidized Bed reactor(FBR) and Moving Media Complete Mixing Activated Sludge reactor(MMCMAS). Experiments of PBR and FBR were performed by various packing ratios and organic loading rates, experiments of MMCMAS were performed by various organic loading rates. In order to obtain ${SBOD}_5$ removal efficiencies of more than 90%, the F/Mv ratios of PBR, FBR, MMCMAS were 0.11 kgBOD/kgMLVSS$\cdot$d, 0.12 kgBOD/kgMLVSS$\cdot$d, and 0.37 kgBOD/kgMLSS$\cdot$d, respectively. So MMCMAS system which has more active microorganisms showed better capability of organic removal and also stronger dynamic and shock loadings than those of PBR and FBR. In PBR and FBR, the media packing ratio of 20% showed better performance of organic matters removal effciencies than 10% and 30%, but sludge production rate at media packing ratio of 30% was relatively lower than that of 10% and 20%. When more than 90% organic matters removal efficiency was obtained, the ratios of attached biomass to total biomass at PBR, FBR, MMCMAS were 89~99%, 87~98%, and 54~80%, respectively. The ratio of attached biomass to total biomass was low in MMCMAS. This was formation of thin biofilm due to shear force between rotaing disc and water. The average sludge production rates(kgVSS/kgBODrem.) of PBR, FBR and MMCMAS were 0.20, 0.29 and 0.54, respectively.

화학적 전처리를 통한 혐기성 슬러지 처리효율의 향상 (Performance Enhancement of Anaerobic Treatment of Waste Sludge by Chemical Pretreatment)

  • Laboratory-scale experiment using anaerobic fluidized bed reactor was carried out to investigate the prehydrolysis step with caustic soda on the treatment efficiency of anaerobic sludge treatment, since the overall rate-limiting step for the complete anaerobic digestion of sludge was the hydrolysis step by extracellular bacterial enzymes of insoluble polymeric molecules. Reactors received a sludge which had not been pretreated, a 50-50 mixture of pretreated and untreated sludge, and the fully pretreated sludge. Hydraulic retention time of 10, 5, 2.5 days and 1 day were applied with an respective equivalent organic loading rate of 1.17, 2.23, 4.17, 11.24 gCOD/L/d. Reactor with the untreated sludge did not archieve adequate digestion even at the HRT of 5 days, and reactor, which received the 50-50 mixture, operated well at the HRT of 5 days, but began to show signs of unstable digestion at the HRT of 2.5 days. While, reactor, which was fed the hydrolyzed sludge, operated reasonably well at the 2.5 days, but was showing somewhat decrease in removal efficiencies. Results, therefore, have substantiated that the limiting reaction in the anaerobic treatment process is hydrolysis. The soluble COD did not significantly accumulate in the reactor as organic acid form, even when they were highly stressed. It was believed that this resistance to a build-up of organic acids and soluble COD behavior was mainly due to the maintenance of the methane bacteria in the fixed-film system which prevents washout as the organic loading increased. The anaerobic fluidized bed reactor was therefore effective for the digestion of waste activated sludge at short HRT.

유동층 반응기에서 하수슬러지의 건조 및 탄화 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Drying and Carbonization of Sewage Sludge in Fluidized Bed Reactor)

  • 본 연구에서는 유동층 반응기에서 하수슬러지의 반응온도, 함수율, 입자크기, 가스유속에 따른 건조 및 탄화에 의한 열중량 변화를 관찰하였고 고정층 반응기에서의 결과와 비교하였다. 그 결과, 하수슬러지의 건조시 유동층을 이용한 건조는 고정층의 경우보다 약 6배 건조효율이 증가하였고, 탄화시 유동층을 이용한 경우가 고정층보다 약 4배 빠른 것으로 나타났으며, 슬러지는 약 10분 이내에 유동층 탄화가 완료되는 것으로 판단되었다. 또한, 탄화온도가 증가할수록 탄화물의 양은 감소되나, 873K 이상에서는 탄화물의 양이 유사하였으며, 유속이 증가함에 따라 잔류고형물이 감소하므로 하수슬러지는 873K 유동층 탄화시 유동화 유속범위내에서 저속 유동을 유지하는 것이 효율적인 것으로 판단되었다.

In the result, when sludge pellets is seperated to $BaTiO_3$ by other reactor and AC voltage is supplied to $BaTiO_3$ and sludge pellets NO, $NO_2$ removal rate is higher. When gas temperature increase from room temperature to 100[$^{\circ}C$], NO removal is decreased while $NO_2$ concentration is independent on gas temperature. This result suggest that the removal mechanism of active oxyzen species and $NO_2$ in sludge is not absorption, but chemical reaction. Temperature of heating treatment is on sludge pellets increased, $NO_x$ removal rate is decrease. It is thought that organic compound is removed by heating treatment.

세라믹 담체를 이용한 안료폐수의 호기성처리 (Aerobic Treatment of Pigment Wastewater using Ceramic Support Carrier)

  • Wastewater from the pigment industry has high levels of organics and is known as hardly biodegradable. The objective of this study is to evaluate the applicability of aerobic fixed-bed boifilm reactor packed with ceramic support carrier for the pigment wastewater treatment. Orange 2(widely used azo pigment) adsorption experiment onto biofilm and activated sludge, and continuous treatment experiments were performed. In batch adsorption experiment, maximum adsorption quantity of biofilm was at least two times higher than that of activated sludge. In continuous experiment using aerobic fixed-bed biodilm reactor, the influent concentration of COD and Orange 2 were 75~500mg/${\ell}$(0.45~3.00kg COD/$m^3.day), 5~50mg/$\ell$(0.03~0.30kg Orange 2/$m^3$.day), respectively. At a COD loading rate 2.5kg COD/$m^3$.day and Orange 2 loading rate of 0.18kg Orange 2/$m^3$.day, removal efficiency of COD and Orange 2 were over 95%, 97%, respectively.

슬러지-고정상 반응기에서 페놀폐수의 혐기성 처리에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Anaerobic Treatment of the Phenol Wastewater with the Sludge Blanket-Packed Bed Reactor)

  • This study was carried to investigate the biodegradability of phenol wastewater in the sluge blanket-packed bed reactor(SBPBR). The reactor consisted of two regions. The lower region was a sludge blanket of 0.5 m height and the upper region was a packed-bed. The phenol and COD concentration of the effluent, the gas production and the composition of gas were measured to determine the performance of the anaerobic wastewater treatment system as the phenol concentration of the influent was increased from 600 to 1800 mg/l. Stable biodegradation of phenol wastewater could be achieved with the anaerobic treatment system from 600 to 1200 mg/l of the influent phenol concentration. But the SBPBR system was getting more serious at 1800 mg/l of influent phenol concentration. At the steady state of the influent phenol concentration of 600-1200 mg/l, the treatment performance showed the phenol removal efficiency of 94.5~96.3%, the COD removal efficiency of 93.3~96% and the gas production of 4.94~9.64 l/day.
