The main factor for the amplification of ground motions near the crest or the toe of a slope is the reflection of the incident waves. The effects of the slope topography on the surrounding lands over the crest or at the toe can amplify the seismic responses of buildings. This study investigates the seismic performance of the slope topography and three mid-rise buildings (five, ten, and fifteen-storey) located near the crest and toe of the slope by 3D numerical analysis. The nonlinear model was used to represent the real behavior of building and ground elements. The average results of seven records were used in the investigations. Based on the analysis, the amplification factor of acceleration near the crest and toe of the slope was the most effective at distances of 2.5 and 1.3 times the slope height, respectively. Accordingly, the seismic performance of buildings was studied at a distance equal to the height of the slope from the crest and toe. The seismic response results of buildings showed that the slope topography to have little impact on up to five-storey buildings located near the crest. Taking into account a topography-soil-structure interaction system increases the storey displacement and base shear in the building. Accordingly, in topography-soil-structure interaction analyses, the maximum lateral displacement was increased by 71% and 29% in ten and fifteen-storey buildings, respectively, compare to the soil-structure interaction system. Further, the base shear force was increased by 109% and 78% in these buildings relative to soil-structure interaction analyses.
In this study, the Mild slope equation is extended to both rapidly varying topography and nonlinear waves, using the Hamiltonian principle. It is shown that this equation is equivalent to the modified mild-slope equation (Kirby and Misra, 1998) for small amplitude wave, and it is the same form with the nonlinear mild-slope equation (Isobe, 1994) for slowly varying bottom topography. Comparing its numerical solutions with the results of some hydraulic experiments, there is good agreement between them.

From the weakly nonlinear mild-slope wave equations introduced by Nadaoka et al.(1994, 1997), a set of weakly nonlinear wave equations for rapidly varying topography are derived by including the bottom curvature and slope-squared tenns ignored in the original equations ofNadaoka et al. To solve the linear version of extended wave equations derived in this study one-dimensional finite difference numerical model is con¬structed. The perfonnance of the model is tested for the case of wave reflection from a plane slope with various inclination. The numerical results are compared with the results calculated using other numerical models reported earlier. The comparison shows that the accuracy of the numerical model is improved significantly in comparison with that of the original equations ofNadaoka et al. by including a complete set of bottom curva1w'e and slope¬squared terms for a rapidly varying topography.

Recently, the research that analyze topography parameters that need in hydrology analysis using GIS techniques is achieved. DEM that is used in topography analysis can be constructed effectively using contour data of digital map. Therefore, DEM's applicability is increasing gradually in several fields. In this study, DEM of 20∼l00m grid size was applied PYONGCHANG river and JUBANG river basin to analyze what effect DEM grid size causes about slope and drainage watershed at topography parameter extraction. This study drew a regression equation about slope change by DEM grid size. As a result, according as DEM grid size increases, slope decreases, and basin area could know that is not change almost.
Soil characteristics by site types (slope, topography and stand) were analyzed to provide the basic information for sustainable management of Nari basin in Ulleung Island. The content of total N of Nari basin was lowest at the north slope, this site had also significantly low soil pH and content of available P. The result of soil pH and content of total N analysis by topography, ranged from 5.13 of summit to 5.59 of plain and from 0.63% of plain to 0.87% of hill, respectively. Soil pH, content of total N and available P by stand were significantly different, which showed that stand types are more significant in explaining the soil properties. Available P content by slope, topography and stand ranged from 2.79 to 8.46 ppm, 3.99 to 8.46 ppm and 5.03 to 11.59 ppm, respectively. It was concluded that forest soil around Nari basin has relatively low available P content compared to other forest soil.
Gongsanseong Fortress was registered of a World Heritage Site in 2015 as a representative cultural heritage from the Woongjin Baekje period, and it has been used throughout the entire period from Baekje Kingdom to the Joseon Dynasty. Within Gongsanseong Fortress, the area around Ssangsujeong is presumed the site of royal palace of the Woongjin Baekje. Also, the excavated culture layers of the Baekje Kingdom, the Unified Silla period, and the Joseon Dynasty were confirmed. In this study, paleotopography was modeled by digitally converting the elevation data obtained through surveying the excavation process, and the use of the topography in the Ssangsujeong area was considered by examining the variations in the topography according to the periods. As a result, the topography of the slope around the peak changed by periods, and the topography did not change on the flat land. The topography between the Baekje Kingdom and the Unified Silla period appeared to be almost identical, and it seems that the space of the Baekje period was maintained as it is. Also, during the Joseon Dynasty, it is confirmed that flat surfaces in the previous period were used. However, sediments on the slopes flowed down, reducing the area of the flatland, and architectural techniques that could utilize the natural topography of the changed slope were applied to interpret it as having a different topography from the previous period. In order to model and interpret the paleotopography, excavation data, geological and topographic analysis, and digital data must be secured. It is expected that location conditions and ancient human life can be identified if the analysis technique in the study is applied to other archaeological sites in the future.
The purpose of this study is to analyze shear fracture system using landslide location occurred 1998 at Janghung area. For the geological implication, foliation was surveyed and analyzed, and location of landslide, geological structure and topography were constructed into spatial database using GIS. With the constructed spatial database, shear fracture system was assessed by the relation analysis between strike and dip of the foliation and aspect and slope of the topography. We compared strike and dip of foliation and aspect and slope of topography and recognized the typical fracture pattern, strike and dip of joint, that coincided with shear fracture system. The result tells us that foliation of gneiss has geometrical relation to joint or fault that leading landslide. GIS was used to analyze vast data efficiently and the result can be used to assess the landslide susceptibility as important factor.

In Korea, there exist many mountains, and sudden storms occur during the summer season. When severe rainstorm events occur in steep slope topography, risk of debris flow is increased. Once debris flow occurs in urban area, it may cause casualties and physical damages due to rapid debris flow velocity along a steep slope. Accordingly, preventing method of sediment-related disaster for demage mitigation are essential. Recently, various studies on debris flow have been conducted. However, the prediction of the physical propagation of debris flow along the steep slope was not thoroughly investigated. Debris flow is characterized by various factors such as topography, properties of debris flow, amount of debris flow. In the study the numerical simulation was focused on the topographic factor. Fundamental analysis of the risk area was implemented with emphasis on the propagation length, thickness, and the development of maximum velocity. The proposed results and the methodology of estimating the structural vulnerability would be helpful in predicting the behavior and the risk assessment of debris flow in urban area. These results will be able to estimate the vulnerability of urban areas affected the most damage by debris flow.
