Analysis and Modeling of Slip Mode Frequency Shift Method for Anti-islanding (슬립모드 주파수변이 방식의 단독운전 검출법의 분석과 모델링)

  • Islanding phenomenon is undesirable because it lead to a safety hazard to utility service personnel and may cause damage to power generation and rower supply facilities as a result of unsynchronized reclosure. In order to prevent this phenomenon, various anti-islanding methods have been studied. Even though the slip mode frequency shift(SMS) method has been regarded as a highly effective anti-islanding method, the analytical design method of that was not cleared. This paper proposes a modeling of the SMS method using non-detection tone(NDZ) and evaluation of the method according to the test conditions of IEEE Std. 929-2000. The SMS method is derived analytically through modeling and verified visually by simulation and experiment.

Measurements of film thickness and temperature distribution in EHL point contact at high roll/slip ratios (높은 구름/미끄럼 비를 갖는 점 접촉 EHL 하에서의 온도분포와 유막 두께 분포의 측정)

  • In this paper, film thickness and temperature distribution are measured in EHL point contact at high roll/slip ratios. Infrared temperature mapping with two band pass filters, proposed by Ausherman (1976), is used to measure temperature distribution. And the optical interferometric method with two filters (red and green filters) is used to measure film thickness. Result of experiment showed that temperature rising at film and ball surface occurred very dramatically in Dimple zone. As slip velocity, roll/slip ratio and load increased, size of Dimple and temperature rising became more large. In addition, position and shape of Dimple were changed by roll/slip ratios, and increasing of Dimple size decreased traction coefficient. In short, it is appointed that the Dimple phenomenon be developed by the effect of viscosity wedge.

Investigating the effect of bond slip on the seismic response of RC structures

  • It is reasonable to assume that reinforced concrete (RC) structures enter the nonlinear range of response during a severe ground motion. Numerical analysis to predict the behaviour therefore must allow for the presence of nonlinear deformations if an accurate estimate of seismic response is aimed. Among the factors contributing to inelastic deformations, the influence of the degradation of the bond slip phenomenon is important. Any rebar slip generates an additional rotation at the end regions of structural members which are not accounted for in a conventional analysis. Although these deformations could affect the seismic response of RC structures considerably, they are often neglected due to the unavailability of suitable models. In this paper, the seismic response of two types of RC structures, designed according to the Iranian concrete code (ABA) and the Iranian seismic code (2800), are evaluated using nonlinear dynamic and static analyses. The investigation is performed using nonlinear dynamic and static pushover analysis considering the deformations due to anchorage slip. The nonlinear analysis results confirm that bond slip significantly influences the seismic behavior of RC structure leading to an increase of lateral deformations by up to 30% depending on the height of building. The outcomes also identify important parameters affecting the extent of this influence.

  • This paper proposes a new anti-slip re-adhesion control system fur electric railway vehicle driven by inverter-fed induction motors. This paper introduces an instantaneous tangential farce coefficient estimator between driving wheel and rail, which is based on disturbance observer. The torque command of proposed system regulates to exceed this estimated tangential farce coefficient in order to avoid undesirable slip phenomenon of driving wheels. We have already proposed the anti-slip re-adhesion control system based on disturbance observer for simplified one wheel equivalent model successfully. This paper extend to this system to the actual bogie system, which has four driving wheels driven by two induction motors fed by one inverter. In order to apply anti-slip re-adhesion control to the actual bogie system a new anti-slip re-adhesion control based on both disturbance observer and speed sensor-less vector control of induction motor with quick response are combined. The experimental results and the numerical simulation results prove the validity of the proposed control system.

  • The present study investigates the effects of Cattaneo-Christov thermal effects of stagnation point in Walters-B nanofluid flow through lubrication of power-law fluid by taking the slip at the interfacial condition. For the solution, the governing partial differential equation is transformed into a series of non-linear ordinary differential equations. With the help of hybrid homotopy analysis method; that consists of both the homotopy analysis and shooting method these equations can be solved. The influence of different involved constraints on quantities of interest are sketched and discussed. The viscoelastic parameter, slip parameters on velocity component and temperature are analyzed. The velocity varies by increase in viscoelastic parameter in the presence of slip parameter. The slip on the surface has major effect and mask the effect of stagnation point for whole slip condition and throughout the surface velocity remained same. Matched the present solution with previously published data and observed good agreement. It can be seen that the slip effects dominates the effects of free stream and for the large values of viscoelastic parameter the temperature as well as the concentration profile both decreases.

  • Employing discrete elements for considering bond-slip effects in reinforced concrete structures is very time consuming. In this study, a new modified embedded element method is used to consider the bond-slip phenomenon in structural behavior of reinforced concrete structures. A comprehensive parametric study of RC slabs is performed to determine influence of different variables on structural behavior. The parametric study includes a set of simple models accompanied with complex models such as multi-storey buildings. The procedure includes the decrease in the effective stiffness of steel bar in the layered model. Validation of the proposed model with existing experimental results demonstrates that the model is capable of considering the bond-slip effects in embedded elements. Results demonstrate the significant effect of bond-slip on total behavior of structural members. Concrete characteristic strengths, steel yield stress, bar diameter, concrete coverage and reinforcement ratios are the parameters considered in the parametric study. Results revealed that the overall behavior of slab is significantly affected by bar diameter compared with other parameters. Variation of steel yield stress has insignificant impact in static response of RC slabs; however, its effect in cyclic behavior is important.

Wheel/Rail Adhesion for Improvement of Braking Performance (철도차량의 제동성능 향상을 위한 점착현상에 관한 연구)

  • The adhesion between wheel and rail plays an important role in the braking performance of trains. Though there have been numerous studies on the characteristics of adhesion phenomenon, a general understanding from the physical point of view is still lacking. In this work, the adhesion mechanism between wheel and rail was investigated by studying the mechanisms of pure rolling and sliding experiments. Tests were performed under various conditions to determine the physical phenomenon responsible for adhesion between wheel and rail. The results of this study is expected to aid in improving the braking performance of trains.

Fretting Wear Mechanisms of TiN Coated Nuclear Fuel Rod Cladding Tube (TiN 코팅한 핵연료봉 피복재의 프레팅 마멸기구)

  • The fretting wear of a nuclear fuel rod it a dangerous phenomenon. In this study, TiN coating was used to reduce the fretting wear of Zircaloy-4 tube, a nuclear fuel rod cladding material. TiN coating is probably one of the molt frequently and successfully used PVD coatings for the mitigation of fretting wear. The fretting tester was designed and manufactured for this experiment. The number of cycles, slip amplitude and normal load were selected as main factors of fretting wear. The results of this research showed that wear volume was improved 1.3∼3.2 times with TiN coating. The worn surfaces were observed by SEM. Wear mechanism at lower slip amplitude was the brittle cracks and rupture of TiN coating. However, adhesive and abrasive wear were mainly observed on most surfaces at higher slip amplitude.

  • The family of unidirectional continuous fiber reinforced polymeric composites are currently used in automotive bumper beams and load floors. The material properties and mechanical characteristics of the compression molded parts are determined by the curing behavior, fiber orientation and formation of knit lines, which are in turn determined by the mold filling parameters. In this paper, a new model is presented which can be used to predict the 3-dimensional flow under consideration of the slip of mold-composites and anisotropic viscosity of composites during compression molding of unidirectional fiber reinforced thermoplastics for isothermal state. The composites is treated as an incompressible Newtonian fluid. The effects of longitudinal/transverse viscosity ratio A and slip parameter $\alpha$ on the buldging phenomenon and mold filling patterns are also discussed.
