Data was collected to develop equation for predicting stemp taper for Carpinus laxiflora in Jeju Experimental Forests. The Models tested for choosing the best-fit equations were Max & Burkhart's model, Kozak's model, and Lee's model. Performance of the equations in predicting stem diameter at a specific point along a stem was evaluated with fit and validation statistics and distribution of residuals on predicted values. In result, all the three models gave slightly better values of fitting statistics. In plotting residuals against predicted diameter, Max & Burkhart's model showed underestimation in predicting small diameter and Lee's Model did the same in predicting small diameter. Based on the above analysis of the three models in predicting stem taper, Kozak's model was chosen for the best-fit stem taper equations, and its parameters were given for C. laxiflora. Kozak's model was used to develop a stem volume table of outside bark for C. laxiflora.
Research materials used were 55 kinds of flower teas proven in medicinal efficacy based on publications in oriental medicinal science. Efficacy in oriental medical science of the selected plants was classified into 11 groups, exterior-relieving herbs, removing dampness by promoting diuresis herbs, heatclearing herbs, purgative herbs, tonic herbs, qi-activating herbs, herbs as blood-tonics, herbs warming the intestine, qi-regulating herbs, herbs for removing dampness by means of aromatics, and herbs activating blood. Moreover, they were assorted by fever (hot, warm, slightly warm, common, cool, and cold), flavor (sweet, bitter, spicy, sour, and salty), and toxicity (toxic or nontoxic). Generally, flower teas have been known to be drinkable by all people. However, it is important to select proper flower teas considering physical constitution and health condition of the individual. One should be cautious in drinking flower teas containing toxic ingredients and weak people should be prohibited drinking them. Further clinical study on efficacy of flower teas will contribute to commercialization of these teas.

Using a Quaternary sediment sampled from the Gwnahju-cheon various organic carbon analysis have been accomplished. The result helped us to figure out how climate environment has changed through at that time. The analysis outcome, except the analysis of upper section(range of 0 to 50 cm depth), showed that the climate was generally warm and humid at that time. However, even in this result, the climate environment was slight differences, it can be divided into four periods. Period I is from $3,880{\pm}30yr\;BP$ to $3,030{\pm}70yr\;BP$, in which the climate was relatively warm and humid/dry slightly. Period II is from $3,030{\pm}70yr\;BP$ to $2,970{\pm}70yr\;BP$, in which the climate was relatively warmer than period I and the most humid among all period. Period III is from $2,970{\pm}30yr\;BP$ to $2,270{\pm}70yr\;BP$ and refers to the warmest among all periods and also relatively drier/more humid than period I. Period IV which is from $2,270{\pm}70yr\;BP$ to $2,170{\pm}110yr\;BP$ represents the coolest and driest climate compare to other periods, although there is a high possibility of disturbance caused by cultivation activities.
This study was carried out to investigate the quality of cooked rice prepared by-an electric pressure cooker (EPC) and an electric cooker (EC) during storage at different temperatures. Four rice cultivars were used (Ilpoom, Saechucheong, Sindongjin, and Sura). The cooked rice samples were stored at room and warm temperatures for 48 hr, and at refrigerator temperatures for 10 days. Immediately after cooking, the moisture content of the EPC rice was lower than that of the EC rice; yet pH was higher for the EPC rice. The L-value of the EPC rice was reduced due to an increasing b-value. The overall acceptability of the EPC rice was high; in particular, it scored high for a roasted nutty flavor and texture. During storage, moisture content and pH decreased regardless of the cooking method. L-, a- and b-values were similar at room and refrigerator temperatures over the entire period, whereas the a-value (greenness) of the EC rice stored at warm temperature slightly decreased and the b-value (yellowness) increased after 24 hr, resulting in a decreasing L- value. Also, sensory characteristics were not significantly different for the samples stored at room temperature for 48 hr; however, at warm and refrigerator temperatures, the sensory characteristics were significantly different after 24 hr and 3 days, respectively. In conclusion, the quality of the cooked rice was effectively preserved during storage at room temperature, and qualify deterioration oaf dependent on using warming equipment as well as the rice cultivar.
The purpose of this study was to explore the characteristics of and solution to thermogenic reactions to Korean ginseng through bibliographic research. A review of bibliography on the thermogenic reaction induced by ginseng indicated that people who lack fluids, have fever in lungs, a stuffy chest, coughing up sputum, a strong pulse, and constipation due to fever in the stomach may exhibit such a reaction. In the herbal medicine book of the Qing Dynasty, Bon-Cho-Jeong-Ui (本草正義) recorded that wild simulated ginseng is slightly cold and replenishes the body's liquid reserves. The book also describes the field cultivated ginseng is slightly warm and enhancing stamina. Bon-Kyung-Bong-Won (本經逢源), Bon-Cho-Pyon-Dok (本草便讀), and Bon-Cho-Jeong-Ui were published authors in the Qing Dynasty, and they explained that ginseng fine root is bitter, supplements bodily fluids, and can be easily ingested because it is cold. Wol-Ji-In-Sam-Jeon (月池人蔘傳) and Bon-Cho-Bi-Yo (本草備要) described fresh ginseng assweet, bitter, and slightly cold in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, respectively. On the basis of this bibliographic description, the thermogenic reaction induced by Korean ginseng can be overcome by using ginseng fine root, fresh ginseng, or wild simulated ginseng. These ginseng radices are slightly cool, replenish human bodily fluids, and show the physiological effects of easy ingestion properties.
The researches on the environmental friendly buildings have carried out on the materials, environmental property, technical elements and etc., and various buildings with these green materials have built and under construction nowadays and became a new trend of the green building. And recently, new building technique which builds the wall with the soil and wood and very easy to construct (called M Earthen House) was introduced as the green building and rapidly propagated. But the research on the indoor climatic characteristics, the ability to control the environmental comfort and the influence to the human beings of these buildings are not sufficiently identified yet. In this paper, the indoor environmental characteristics and the temperature controlling ability of these buildings in summer season were measured and analysed by the Portable Indoor Air Quality Monitor(BABUC/A, LSI) measuring equipments, ana the subjective test on the thermal environment of the subjects were carried out to evaluate the thermal comfort. The results can be summarized as follows; 1) Compared to the outdoor dry bulb temp.($15.4{\sim}28.7^{\circ}C$), the indoor temp. was $19.5{\sim}26.8^{\circ}C$. It showed the temperature controlling ability of the M earthen house was outstanding. And the indoor relative humidity, compared to the outdoor($45.4{\sim}100%$), was $58.1{\sim}76.4%$, it showed the humidity controlling ability of the M earthen house was also outstanding. 2) The thermal environment was evaluated as 'comfort'(neutral-slightly warm) and the humidity was also evaluated as 'comfort'(neutral-slightly humid). So, the results of the physical and subjective evaluation on the indoor thermal comfort in summer season were 'neutral' and 'comfort' coincidently, it was confirmed that the controlling ability of the indoor temperature and humidity of the M earthen house was very excellent.
The purpose of this study is to provide information on a forest healing environment using the analysis of nature volatile organic compounds (NVOCs) and thermal comfort in Chungnam National University Experimental Forest, with the aim of using the Experimental Forest as a healing environment for health promotion. We analyzed NVOCs and thermal comfort of Chungnam National University Experimental Forest measured on September 12th, 2021. As a result of the NVOC analysis, a total of seven substances were detected, mainly including alpha pinene and beta pinene. The detection amount for each time period was highest at the time of sunset. The thermal comfort was analyzed by time-dependent changes and changes according to clothing and exercise amount. The results showed that the predicted mean vote of the experimental forest is within the range of 'slightly cool' and 'slightly warm' sensation, and thus a comfortable thermal environment could be controlled by the amount of clothing and activity. Based on the analysis, this study provides information on the healing environment of the experimental forest at Chungnam National University. It also indicates that the forest can be used as a health promotion and healing environment with thermal comfort by composing a physical activity program of appropriate intensity for each time period.

In this study, we analyzed the effects of regional hydrologic variability during warm season (June-September) in South Korea due to ENSO (El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$-Southern Oscillation) pattern changes over the Tropical Pacific Ocean (TPO). We performed composite analysis (CA) and statistical significance test by Student's t-test using observed hydrologic data (such as, precipitation and streamflow) in the 113 sub-watershed areas over the 5-Major River basin, in South Korea. As a result of this study, during the warm-pool (WP) El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ year shows a significant increasing tendency than normal years. Particularly, during the cold-tongue (CT) El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ decaying years clearly decreasing tendency compared to the normal years was appeared. In addition, the La $Ni{\tilde{n}}a$ years tended to show a slightly increasing tendency and maintain the average year state. In addition, from the result of scatter plot of the percentage anomaly of hydrologic variables during warm season, it is possible to identify the linear increasing tendency. Also the center of the scatter plot shows during the WP El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ year (+17.93%, +26.99%), the CT El $Ni{\tilde{n}}a$ year (-8.20%, -15.73%), and the La $Ni{\tilde{n}}a$ year (+8.89%, +15.85%), respectively. This result shows a methodology of the tele-connection based long-range water resources prediction for reducing climate forecasting uncertainty, when occurs the abnormal SSTA (such as, El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ and La $Ni{\tilde{n}}a$) phenomenon in the TPO region. Furthermore, it can be a useful data for water managers and end-users to support long-range water-related policy making.
The purposes of this study were to determine the actual state of the indoor thermal environment in apartment units and to analyze the relationship between the living factors and indoor thermal elements. The field surveys consisted of measurements of physical elements and observations of living factors. In addition, the residents of 20 apartment units were interviewed to survey their subjective response. Field surveys were carried out from January to March 2007. Measuring elements were air temperature, globe temperature, and relative humidity. The results showed that the average of indoor temperature for the houses was $21.2{\sim}27.2^{\circ}C$, while 4 houses exceeded the comfort zone. The average of globe temperature for the houses was $21.3{\sim}27.5^{\circ}C$, while 6 houses exceeded the comfort zone. The mean relative humidity was $19.5{\sim}58.8%$, which is a relatively dry condition. The residents' average clothing value was $0.39{\sim}0.89$ clo(average 0.68 clo). The average thermal sensation vote on each room was $4.2{\sim}4.8$, which is 'neutral' to 'slightly warm'. Living factors had significant effect on indoor temperature in regression analysis were ventilation time(outdoor air exchange), opening time of door through balcony, and gas cooker use time.
Surface current fields in the eastern East China Sea (ECS) were constructed by analyzing trajectories of 58 satellite-tracked surface drifters released during 1991-1996. Composite trajectories and 20-minute-by-20-minute box-averaged current vectors show that the basic current pattern composes of: the Kuroshio main stream, which turns eastward toward the Tokara Strait; a northward branch current of the Kuroshio on the ECS outer shelf deeper than 100 m; and an anticyclonic circulation in the northern Okinawa Trough west of Kyushu. The northward branch current sharply changes its direction to the northeast when it crosses a line connecting Cheju Island, Korea and Goto Islands, Japan. The basic pattern of current field changes slightly from winter to summer, and the main axis of the Tsushima Current in the Korea Strait is found to shift seasonally. The drifter experiment does not support the claim that the Yellow Sea Warm Current is separated from the northward branch current on the outer shelf southeast of Cheju Island. We suggest that the use of the term 'Tsushima Current' be limited to the northeast channel flow in the Korea Strait. The new term 'Kuroshio Branch Current' is suggested for the northward branch current on the outer shelf south of Cheju-do, which is separated from the Kuroshio.
