Clinical Research Trends on Precocious Puberty and Sleep (성조숙증과 수면에 관한 임상연구동향)

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is understanding the trend of clinical researches on the correlation between precocious puberty and sleep. Methods 18 papers were searched by using keywords 'Precious publicity' and 'Sleep' in Pubmed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and those were analyzed for this study. Results Children aged 6 to 18 were participated in longitudinal studies and questionnaire surveys. Hormone levels and EEG were also measured in those children. This study had placed emphasis on the sleeping time and sleep quality, and sex hormones secretion during sleep and changes in the hormone secretion related to the sleep cycles. Historically, oriental medicine studies have demonstrated that there were correlations between precocious puberty and sleep. There are studies from China showed the importance of lifestyle management in preventing and treating precocious puberty, especially with light exposure during sleep. Conclusions Sleep is closely correlated with precocious puberty and it is an important factor to be considered in the prevention and treatment of precocious puberty.

  • In this research, we design and perform experiment to investigate whether neuronal activity patterns elicited while solving game tasks are spontaneously reactivated in during sleep. In order to recognize human activity EEG-fMRI signals are used at the same time. Experimental results shows that reward for the success of tasks performed before sleeping have an effect on sleep brain activity. The study uncovers a neural mechanism whereby rewarded life experiences are preferentially replayed and consolidated while we sleep.

  • Purpose. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function, depression, and institutionalized elderly activity. The goal is to improve the quality of life through early intervention in the sleeping problems of the elderly hospitalized in the nursing home. Method Twentythree patients who were diagnosed with CDR (clinical dementia grade) 0.5 ~ 2 stages by a psychiatrist from September 3 to 30, 2017 were measured for sleep status, depression, cognitive function and activities of daily living at the same time once a day. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS (v.21, IBM, USA) program. Results The correlation between sleep status and cognitive function, depression, and activities of daily living was not statistically significant, and there was a moderate correlation between cognitive function and depression. Conclusion The results of this study suggest that the development and application of a program that activates the cognitive function that is institutionalized with a positive correlation between cognitive function and depression will be effective in decreasing depression in the elderly patients hospitalized in the nursing home.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to measure health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and investigate the relevant factors for middle aged women using the 2014 Korea Health Panel data. Methods: The Korea Health Panel data 2014 were collected from February to August 2014 by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs and the National Health Insurance Corporation and included 2,075 people who responded to the questionnaire. Using SPSS WIN program, the data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Limited activity was the most influential factor for the health-related quality of life of middle-aged women. For health behavior, the factors affecting HRQoL were drinking, sleeping time, and physical activity. For physical health, factors affecting HRQoL were vision problems, eating problems, and hearing problems. For mental health, the factors affecting HRQoL were suicidal impulse, stress, and frustration. Conclusion: These results indicated that to improve HRQoL for middle-aged women, limited activity and suicidal impulses should be addressed.

  • With the drastic growth of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry, global energy consumption is exponentially increased by mobile communications. The huge energy consumption and increased environmental awareness have triggered great interests on the research of dynamic distribution of cell user and traffic, and then designing the energy efficient cellular network. In this paper, we explore the temporal and spatial characteristics of human mobility and traffic distribution using real data set. The analysis results of cell traffic illustrate the tidal effect in temporal and spatial dimensions and obvious periodic characteristics which can be used to design Base Station (BS) dynamic with sleeping or shut-down strategy. At the same time, we designed a new Cell Zooming and BS cooperation mode. Through simulation experiments, we found that running in this mode can save about 35% of energy consumption and guarantee the required quality of service.

  • We empirically verified whether there are different educational investment behaviors according to university admissions, using the Korean Education and Employment Panel data. The results are as follows; the average annual private education cost and the average amount of time spent studying alone per week of rolling admission type were lower than those of regular admission type. Also, rolling admission applicants had longer leisure and sleeping hours, such as watching TV and using computers. These results show the possibility that the university admission system will change the educational investment behavior. Furthermore, there is a possibility to induce the human capital investment to be made efficiently.

Behavioral characteristics of Hanwoo (Bos taurus coreanae) steers at different growth stages and seasons

  • Objective: This research analyzed behavioral characteristics of Hanwoo (Bos taurus coreanae) steers during each season and growth stage to enable measurement of the animals' welfare level for precision livestock farming. Methods: A hundred-eight beef steers were divided into three equal groups at a Hanwoo farm according to their growth stage: growing stage (GS), 8 months; early-fattening stage (EFS), 19 months; and late-fattening stage (LFS), 30 months. Twelve behavioral categories were continuously recorded for 13 day-time hours in each four seasons with three replications. Results: Time spent standing was found to be significantly longer in summer at all growth stages (p<0.05). Hanwoos at the GS spent significantly longer standing time in spring and summer than those at the EFS and LFS (p<0.05). Lying time in summer was the shortest for all growth stages (p<0.05). Steers at the LFS spent significantly longer lying time than that at the GS (p<0.05) in summer. For GS and EFS, time spent eating in spring and autumn were longer than in summer and winter (p<0.05). Eating time was the longest for the GS in spring, autumn, and winter, excluding for the LFS in winter (p<0.05). Regarding ruminating, steers at the LFS spent significantly shorter time than those at other stages in all seasons (p<0.05). GS and EFS steers showed the longest walking time in summer compared with other seasons (p<0.05). At GS and LFS, drinking time in summer was the longest of all seasons (p<0.05). Sleeping time was significantly shorter in summer compared with the other seasons (p<0.05). Self-grooming time was the longest in winter for all growth stages (p<0.05). Conclusion: Steers were found to have more variable behavioral patterns during summer and the GS and less active behaviors during the LFS, thus extra care seems necessary during the GS, LFS, and summer period.

A Modification of The Fuzzy Logic Based DASH Adaptation Algorithm for Performance Improvement (성능 향상을 위한 퍼지 논리 기반 DASH 알고리즘의 수정)

  • In this paper, we propose a modification of fuzzy logic based DASH adaptation algorithm(FDASH) for seamless media service in time-varying network conditions. The proposed algorithm selects more appropriate bit-rate for the next segment by the modification of the Fuzzy Logic Controller(FLC) and reduces the number of video bit-rate changes by applying Segment Bit-rate Filtering Module(SBFM). Also, we apply the Start Mechanism for clients not to watch the low quality videos in the very beginning stage of streaming service and add the Sleeping Mechanism to avoid any buffer overflow expected. Ultimately, we verified by using NS-3 Network Simulator that the proposed method shows better performance compared to FDASH. According to the experimental results, there is no buffer underflow/overflow within the limited buffer size, which is not guaranteed in FDASH on the other hand. Also, we confirmed that mFDASH has almost the same level of average video quality against FDASH and reduces about 50% of number of video bit-rate changes compared to FDASH in Point-to-Point network and Wi-Fi network.

Effect of Earthing Mat on the Quality of Sleep (어싱매트가 수면의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: Using as a sleep evaluation tool the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), this paper studied the effects of earthing on the amount and quality of sleep by examining a patient population of people who used and did not use earthing mats and a group of general healthy people. Methods: From September to November 2019, 30 patients who voluntarily used an earthing mat, 40 patients who did not use an earthing mat, and 40 healthy people who did not use an earthing mat were selected. A questionnaire applying the PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) after being translated into Korean was distributed starting November 29, 2019 to 110 subjects. Out of them, 101 subjects who completed the questionnaire were examined. All statistics used SPSS 25.0. Results: The first overall score showed that all three groups had problems sleeping, with five points or more, but the general population had better sleep quality than the patient group. It also showed that the using matgroup had better quality of sleep than the ones that did not use the earthing mat In addition, the analysis of the third group through the variance analysis showed significance at >0.05 for the general population and the patient group. Based on this, a multi-comparison analysis of the third group showed significantly less than 0.05 in patients who do not use an earthing mat compared to the public. First of all, there are no statistically significant differences between the three groups in subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, and sleep time, but an analysis of multiple comparison analysis with the general population group showed that the quality of sleep was worse compared to those that used the mat. In addition, sleep efficiency, sleep disorder, sleeping pills, and daytime dysfunction were found to be less than >0.05 in the three groups. Conclusions: These results suggest that if you ground your body to Earth during sleep, the secretion of cortisol will decrease night levels, sync more with the natural 24-hour circulation rhythm profile, and that when you sleep, sleep is better and pain and stress are associated with the study. While the preceding study cannot confirm that contact with the ground affects the quality of sleep, it suggests that it is relevant as shown in this paper.

A Study on the Relations between Yangseng Level and Stress in Industrial Workers (근로자(勤勞者)의 양생수준(養生水準)과 스트레스와의 관계(關係))

  • This study aims at grasping the relativity between laborers' yangseng level and stress so as to present the groundwork for preventive oriental medicine approach in industrial health. The researcher prepared the questionnaire on general character, health-related yangseng level and chose 632 people to execute Autonomic balance test through heartbeat change. The collected material was analyzed by SPSS and tested by T-test, ANOVA. The general yangseng level average is 3.27, morality yangseng 3.91, sleep yangseng 3.39, mind yangseng 3.32, sex life yangseng 3.29, exercise yangseng 3.14, activities and rest yangseng 3.07, diet yangseng 2.95, seasonal yangseng 2.84. The highest is morality yangseng and seasonal yangseng is the lowest. In the aspect of yangseng level : Having a spouse, Non-smoking, Non-drinking, Regular exercising, Sufficient sleeping have higher yanseng levels. In Autonomic balance test, age from 35 to 40 has the highest autonomic activity and job period from 5 years to 10 years has the highest stress resistance. Non-smokers have high autonomic activity and stress resistance. Further, have low autonomic balance, stress index and fatigue strength. In the case of regular exercising person, he/she has high autonomic activity and stress resistance with low stress index. Regarding sleeping time, autonomic balance is the highest when he/she sleeps less than 6 hours. Stress resistance is the highest when he/she sleeps 7 hours and stress index is the highest when he/she sleeps 6 hours. After comparing the relativity between yangseng level autonomic balance test, only exercise yangseng has plus factor on autonomic activity and stress resistance and minus factor on stress ind ex and fatigue strength. Yangseng level has been affected by individual character and daily habits. Also stress is more influenced by daily habits than by individual character. We can find the relativity of exercise yangseng between yangseng and stress which suggests that we need to take measures to win over stress in individual health in the near future.
