The use of bed in Korea has increased steadily, however, intensive survey on the general use and consumer's evaluation of their beds have not been performed sufficiently, yet. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the actual use of the consumer and their degree of evaluation for the component of the bed as well as their feeling of discomfort on the various parts of body. More than one hundred users of commercial beds were responded to the survey. The results obtained were as follows: (1) Complaint about the depression of the mattress and the noise from the bed was apparent in the current use of beds. (2) Important physical variable related to the comfortable sensation of the sleeping was the degree of support in maintaining the natural shape of the spine and waist. Durability and the degree of hardness of the mattress were also important physical parameters of bed perceived by consumer. (3) The degree of discomfort on the back and waist during sleep was closely related to the comfort evaluation of the bed.
The methanol extract of Diospyros peregrina bark was studied for its effect on the central nervous system (CNS) using the pentobarbitone induced sleeping time test, the open field test and the hole cross test in Swiss albino mice. The present investigation revealed that the extract, at the doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg, significantly prolonged the pentobarbitone induced sleeping time in mice though the onset of sleep was delayed as compared to the control. In open field test, the depressing effect was prominent from the second observation period (30 min) and persisted throughout the entire experimental period (240 min). In the hole cross test, the depressing effect was observed from the second observation period (30 min) and persisted up to fifth observation period (120 min) for 250 mg dose group and up to sixth observation period (180 min) for 500 mg dose group. These results support the finding that D. peregrina bark extract at the above doses has CNS depressing effects and indicate that D. peregrina bark may contain biologically active constituent(s) having CNS depressant activity.

Objectives: This study investigated how income, duration of illness, social stigma, quality of sleeping, ADL and social participation related to Parkinson's disease(PD) predict depression in a conceptual model based on the International Classification of Functioning(ICF) model. Methods: The sample included 206 adults with idiopathic Parkinson's disease(IPD) attending D university hospital in B Metro-politan City. A structured questionnaire was used and conducted face-to-face interviews. The collected data were analyzed for fitness, using the AMOS 18.0 program. Results: A path analysis showed that the overall model provided empirical evidence for linkages in the ICF model. Depression was manifested by significant direct effects of social stigma(${\beta}=.20$, p<.001), quality of sleeping(${\beta}=-.40$, p<.001), ADL(${\beta}=-.20$, p<.01), and social participation(${\beta}=-.12$, p<.05), indirect effects including income(p<.05), duration of illness(p<.05). These variables explained 45.9% of variance in the prediction model. Conclusions: This model may help nurses to collect and assess information to develop intervention program for depression.
Objectives : Assuming that the characteristic of meridian system has been similar to this of electric potentials in human body and that measurements of electric potential at well(井穴) and sea(合穴) points in branches of the twelves meridians will be representative of measurements of the twelve meridians, to measure the electric potentials in twenty aged(TAG) and fifty aged(FAG) healthy volunteers groups when they were sleeping or awakening respectively, to do significance test for electric potential of meridian system among circadian rhythms(CR) and Sasang constitutions(SC). Methods : We selected who thirty healthy volunteers were diagnosed by a blood test, urine examination and differentiation of syndromes by five viscera among volunteers. When they were sleeping, their electric potentials of well and sea points in branches of the twelve meridians were simultaneously measured by physiograph. After a minute we measured them again, totally 5 times. And then when they were awakening, their electric potentials were measured 5 times by the above method. Results : Measurements were analyzed by statistical ANOVA test, we obtained that some of the electric potentials of TAG at sleeping significantly varied with CR, SC, and at awakening some of the electric potentials of FAG also significantly did with CR, SC.

Ventilation requirement of apartment was mandated according to building equipment standards in 2006. When ventilation unit was considering for indoor air quality maintenance, we needed energy saving and efficiency ventilation control methods. This study carried out experiment of ventilation rate 0.7 adequacy. When we lived in apartment, we assumed that sleeping time was long stayed time in unconsciousness. Experiments carried out ventilation rate 0, 0.1, 0.4 and 0.7 in environment chamber from 22 o'clock to 06 o'clock, the concentration of $CO_2$, temperature and humidity rate measured. Analyzing the results, conclusions are as follows. 1) When we sleep in bedroom, ventilation rate 0.4 meet the requirements of domestic legal standards. Conform fan of similarity law, ventilation rate 0.4 reduced power cost about 80% than 0.7. 2) In generally sleeping time 8 hours, peak point control reduced running time of ventilation unit about 43% than normal control.
Ethanol extract of Gastrodia elata fermented with Lactobacillus brevis was highly effective on the duration of pentobarbital hypnosis in mice. Pretreatment of mice with ethanol extract of the fermented Gastrodia elata (200 mg/kg, p.o.) prolonged markedly the duration of pentobarbital sleeping time and reduced the sleep latency. The mechanism of the extract of the fermented Gastrodia elata was investigated to inhibit the binding of $^3H$-Flumazenil, a selective benzodiazepine receptor antagonist, to benzodiazepine receptor of mice cortices. $IC_{50}$ value from displacement of $^3H$-Flumazenil binding was 62 ${\mu}g/mL$ at the treatment of the fermented Gastrodia elata. Therefore, these finding, such as increase of sleeping time and reduction of sleep latency, was examined by elevated concentration of GABA and parishin C, which were increased by Lactobacillus brevis.

In this paper, we propose a system that collects data from sensors that detect the sleeping environment and adjusts the sleeping environment optimally based on the environment to help you get a good night's sleep. The sleep environment analysis is based on the determination of the sleep stage by detection of twisting through the load cell. In addition, based on data such as temperature, humidity, and illuminance, heat devices, humidifiers, blinds, etc. are controlled to create an environment in which to have a good sleep. The sleep environment control according to the sleep state can reduce fatigue when waking up by inducing a sleep state that is easy to wake up.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of severe early childhood caries and feeding pratices in preschool children. The subjects of study were six hundred and seventy-two preschool children in Iksan city. Severe early childhood caries(S-ECC) was defined as the presence of one or more cavitated, missing due to caries, or filled smooth surfaces in primary maxillary anterior teeth. The caregivers of children were given a questionnaire including age, gender, birthweight, and feeding practices. The prevalence of S-ECC was 34.5%. The prevalence was significantly higher when there were the habit of sleeping while feeding, the habit of feeding sour or sweet content in the bottle, and the habit of using the pacifier. Birth weight, breast-feeding, bottle-feeding, and the sippy cup habit showed no significant association with the prevalence of S-ECC. There were significant positive associations between breast-feeding and sleeping while feeding, between bottle-feeding and the pacifier, between sleeping while feeding and sour or sweet content in the bottle, between sleeping while feeding and the sippy cup, between sleeping while feeding and the pacifier, and between the sippy cup and the pacifier. There were significant negative associations between breast-feeding and the pacifier.
This study was conducted in order to identify the present condition of caffeinated drinks intake including energy drink. Concretely, It was investigated about stress degree, study attitude, sleeping hours by intake degree of caffeinated drinks. Descriptive survey research was designed. A total of 371 students in M university was participated. Data were collected through a questionnaire (from October 22, 2012. to October 26, 2012). Most of students thought caffeinated drinks intake have an effect on their health. Intake time of caffeinated drinks was before or after studying or sleepy. Caffeinated drinks intaked mostly alone. Intake causes of canned coffee or energy drink was sleepy and coffee mix, black coffee, coffee flavored milk and green tea was good taste. Stress degree, study attitude, sleeping hours by intake degree of caffeinated drinks were no significant effects between canned coffee, coffee mix, black coffee, green tea and energy drink. But, stress degree by intake degree of coffee flavored milk was significant low when it intakes more than once a day, sleeping hours was significant long when it was nondrinking.
The present study is designed to provide basic data for the future health promotion projects to be aimed at improving quality of life for the elderly people in the increasingly aging society of Korea by investigating factors related to the yangseng of old people in rural areas. The results of this study are intended to serve as fundamental for efficient approach toward health promotion projects for the elderly in rural communities. For this purpose, a survey by questionnaires was conducted to rural inhabitants from May to June 2004. The replies were analyzed from the perspective of Oriental medicine for yangseng. 1. The average points of health care appeared to be 3.24. In details by sub-areas, morality was 3.79, followed by 3.74 for activities and rest, 3.73 for sleeping, 3.29 for diet, 3.25 for mind, 2.88 for season, 2.12 for exercise and 1.95 for sexual life in sequence, showing that the yangseng of morality was scored highest while the area of sexual life were rated lowest. 2. As for the extent of health care depending on the characters of the subjects, spoused ones, married couples living alone, while the higher educated and the more leisure is utilized, the more the care is paid for yangseng. 3. Concerning the extent of yangseng depending on the general characters of the subjects, men showed more yangseng in activities and rest. The group aged 70 to 74 acquired the highest points in mind yangseng. The group with spouse featured higher concern for yangseng in the categories of morality, diet, activities and rest, sleeping and sexual life. Married couples who are living with no other family members recorded the highest points in the areas of morality, diet, sleeping and sexual life(P<0.05). 4. In terms of socioeconomic characters, the more one is educated, the more he/she is tended to take yangseng in the exercise, sleeping and sexual life. The group with occupation is inclined to take more yangseng in the activities and rest and sleeping. When people have to work for their keep, they usually showed to have highest yangseng for sleeping. People who enjoy leisure showed higher yangseng in all areas except for morality. In case man has religion, he showed more yangseng in the activities and rest, exercise and sleeping(P<0.05). 5. Those who reply they are confident with health showed higher yangseng. No significant difference was found in all areas except for sexual life in which high care is taken for yangseng, as far as one has no disease. Those who are confident with health had highest yangseng in all areas except for season yangseng(P<0.05). As seen above, extents of yangseng by the old people in the rural area are found to have difference depending on the individual and socioeconomic characters, factors which should be seriously considered in the local health promotion projects and projects for the health of the elderly. Particularly important is to launch health promotion programs and to analyze their effects to promote health care particularly in the areas of sexual life, exercise and season yangseng that turned out to be lowest by taking into account of yangseng in each sub-area.
