Purpose: We intended to observe relation between general symptom and the number of uterine myoma. Methods: We surveyed 948 women from 35 to 45 years old who had received Korean oriental medical questionnaires about general symptom pattern and pelvic ultrasonography at Kyung-Hee university medical center from May, 2007 to October, 2008. After we divided women into three groups (Mono-uterine myoma, Bi-uterine myoma & uterine myoma above 3) by ultrasonography result, we compared general symptom pattern according to the number of uterine myoma. For statistics, we used Kruskal-Wallis Test, SPSS 13.0 for windows. Results: In relation to sleep pattern, severity of dreaming & awaking showed statistical significance according to the number of uterine myoma. In relation to digestion pattern, appetite & heartburn showed statistical significance according to the number of uterine myoma. In relation to evacuation pattern, hardening of stool showed statistical significance according to the number of uterine myoma. In relation to sweating pattern, severity of refreshing after sweating showed statistical significance according to the number of uterine myoma. In relation to the other patterns, hypertonicity of nape neck showed statistical significance according to the number of uterine myoma(p<0.05). Conclusion: The result showed that prevalence of uterine myoma had to be considered in respect of sleep, digestion, evacuation and sweating pattern. we need further study based on this preliminary result.

Home Gateway is always on for continuous services of home networks. Ubiquitous home networks are extended. so power consumption of home gateways increases by geometric progression. Our algorithm is for home gateway to sleep, listen or wakeup according to network traffic adaptively, as well as to keep always-on service. To do this, it traces the accumulated average of previous sleep periods. In addition to this basic algorithm, we make the profiles for user's living pattern per the day to reflect network usages in detail and adaptively. As the simulation results by comparing with overall accumulated average and per-day accumulated average, in case of the overall accumulated average, the difference the estimation and real value is distributed from 0.43% to 4%. In contrast of this, in case of the per-day accumulated average is distributed from 0.06% to 2%. From this results, we know the profiling of per-day usage pattern can help reduce the difference of the real sleep period and the estimated sleep period.

In our daily life, quality of sleeping is closely related to happiness index. Whether or not people perceive sleep disturbance as a chronic disease, people complain of many difficulties, and in their daily life, they often experience difficulty breathing during sleep. It is very important to automatically recognize breathing-related disorders during a sleep, but it is very difficult in reality. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a mobile-based non-contact sleeping monitoring for health management at home. Respiratory signals during the sleep are collected by using the sound sensor of the smartphone, the characteristics of the signals are extracted, and the frequency, amplitude, respiration rate, and pattern of respiration are analyzed. Although mobile health does not solve all problems, it aims at early detection and continuous management of individual health conditions, and shows the possibility of monitoring physiological data such as respiration during the sleep without additional sensors with a smartphone in the bedroom of an ordinary home.
Purpose: The study aimed to examine the effects of sleep pattern, stress, and attitude towards menstruation, and behavior that causes a reduction in exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in the course of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in female adolescents. Method: In total, 200 girls attending middle school in K city were recruited via convenience sampling between December 11 and 31, 2018, and 192 subjects were selected for the analysis. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results: Overall, 9 (4.7%), 152 (79.2%), and 31 (16.1%) students had morning-, intermediate-, and evening-type sleep pattern, respectively. The mean scores for school-related stress were highest. Scores for stress regarding relationships with friends were the lowest. The mean score for attitudes toward menstruation was 72.33 out of 147. The mean score for behavior that led to a reduction in EDCs exposure was 56.57 out of 85. The mean scores for PMS severity were 25.30 and 38.39 out of 60. Analysis of factors affecting PMS revealed that severity of menstrual pain (β=.28), use of analgesics during menstruation (β=.17), family history of PMS (β=-.16), stress (β=.19), and behavior that reduces EDCs exposure (β=-.17) exerted significant effects on PMS. The explanatory power of these variables was 37%. Conclusion: The findings propose the necessity of a health intervention program including educational information, which can reduce PMS in adolescents, induce the behaviors which can decrease exposure to EDCs, and activities for managing the stress levels.
Objective : The purpose of this paper is to report the improvement of patient with panic disorder treated by herb medication based on Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system. Methods :, The patient with panic disorder was diagnosed according to 'Disease Pattern Identification Diagnostic System based on Shanghanlun Provisions'. The changing symptom of panic disorder was estimated by BAI(Beck Anxiety Inventory). Results : The patient was diagnosed with yin-yang-yi-cha-hou-lao-fu bing, number 397 provision, and took Jukyeopseokgo-tang herb medication about 113 days. The BAI score changed 37 to 12. Conclusions : The therapeutic intervention and herb medication showed a therapeutical effect on the patient. The anxiety and helplessness of the patient was improved. This patient's panic disorder was associated with poor sleep patterns and sensitivity to minor things and controled by Jukyeopseokgo-tang. The relationships between poor sleep patterns and 陰陽易差後勞復病, shortness of breath when sensitive to minor things and 少氣 need further study.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the sleep patterns of South Korean elementary school children and whether the differences in sleep patterns were related to behavior, emotional problems, attention and academic performance. Method: This study included a community sample of 268 boys and girls from fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade classes in a South Korean metropolitan city from November to December 2010. The primary caregivers completed a questionnaire that included information on demographic characteristics, as well as the Child's Sleep Habit Questionnaire (CSHQ), the Korean version of Child Behavior Checklist (K-CBCL), the Korean version of the Learning Disability Evaluation Scale (K-LDES), the Korean version of ADHD Rating Scale (K-ARS) and the Disruptive Behavior Disorder Scale (DBDS). We conducted analyses on the CSHQ individual items, between the subscales, on the total scores and on the K-CBCL, the K-LEDS, the K-ARS and the DBDS. Results: Based on the findings from the CHSQ, the subjects had significantly higher scores for bedtime resistance ($9.18{\pm}2.17$), delayed sleep onset ($1.32{\pm}0.62$), the sleep duration ($4.19{\pm}1.52$) and daytime sleepiness ($14.10{\pm}3.55$) than the scores from the previous reports on children from western countries. The total CHSQ score showed positive correlations to all subscales of the K-CBCL : withdrawn (r=0.24, p<.005), somatic complaint (r=0.24, p<.005) and anxious/depressive (r=0.38, p<.005). Bedtime resistance was associated with oppositional defiant disorder (r=0.15, p<.05) and a positive correlation was demonstrated between sleep anxiety and the oppositional defiant disorder score (r=0.13, p<.05), night waking and the conduct disorder score (r=0.16, p<.05). Delayed sleep onset was related with low performance on the K-LDES with respect to thinking (r=-0.17, p<.05) and mathematical calculation (r=-0.17, p<.05). Conclusion: The results of this study reconfirm Korean children's problematic sleep patterns. Taken together the results provide that the reduced sleep duration and disruption of sleep pattern can have a significant impact on emotion, behavior, performance of learning in children. Further studies concerning more diverse psychosocial factors affecting sleep pattern will be helpful to understanding of the sleep health in Korean children.
Circadian rhythms have been observed to be disturbed in mood disorders, especially seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Clock related gene variants also have been suggested to be associated with seasonality (seasonal variations in mood and behavior). This study tested the potential association between a length polymorphism of Period3 gene and seasonal variations in mood and behavior. 297 Korean college students were genotyped for the Period3 polymorphism and were for evaluated the seasonal variation by Seasonal Pattern Assessment Questionnaire (SPAQ). The genotype frequencies were 0.76 for 4R/4R, 0.22 for 4R/5R and 0.013 for 5R/5R. The global seasonality score was not different among Period3 gene variants (4R/4R, 4R/5R and 5R/5R) except for 'sleep length' subscore. The 5R/5R genotype showed the higher 'sleep length' subscore than others (p=0.024). The comparison between seasonals (syndromal plus subsyndromal SAD determined by SPAQ) and non-seasonals did not show any significant difference in frequencies of genotypes. These findings suggest that there is a possibility that the investigated Period3 polymorphism may play a partial role in the susceptibility of seasonal variations in a Korean population.

Objective : This study was to investigate the relationship between sensory processing patterns and sleep quality for poor sleepers enrolled in universities. Methods : The participants are 191 students, aged 18 to 25, at the 6 universities located in Busan, Daegu, and other Gyeongsang Provinces. These participants completed the Korean version of Adolescent/Adults Sensory Profile (AASP) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Results : The group with lower sleep quality of this study participants suggested low but positive correlation with sleep disturbance which is one of sleep quality components of the PSQI. Low sensory registration suggested high positive correlation and Sensory sensitivity suggested low positive correlation with daytime dysfunction. Conclusion : We identified that sensory processing patterns and sleep quality may influence each other and sleep quality can be more significantly influenced by specific sensory processing pattern. More studies requires on sleep quality and sensory processing patterns in children, adults, and elders.
The hallmarks of sleep apnea syndrome include daytime hypersomnolence, snoring, obesity, disturbed nocturnal sleep, and apneic episodes. Thyroid deficiency states are now a well recognized cause of sleep apnea. Central, obstructive, and mixed patterns of sleep apnea may be observed in hypothyroidism. A-33-yr-old man was admitted complaining of daytime hypersomnolence, snoring, sleep apnea and obesity. A polysomnogram showed obstructive pattern of sleep apnea syndrome. Physical examination and hormonal study revealed a narrowing of the upper airway and primary hypothyroidism. Dilated cardiomyopathy was diagnosed by echocardiogram. The poctients was treated for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome with nasal continuous positive airway pressure(CPAP) for 2 months and the underlying hypothyroidism with thyroid hormone therapy. This successfully controlled the snoring, sleep apnea, and other apnea-related symptoms. Here, we describe our experience of nasal CP AP and thyroid hormone therapy in a patient with primary hypothyroidism associated with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and dilated cardiomyopathy with review of the relevant literature.
This study was performed to investigate about sleep quality and orofacial pain pattern between experimental and control group. 101 subjects with temporomandibular disorders without any psychologic and neurologic problem were selected from the patients presented to Wonkwang University dental hospital. Routine clinical examination for TMD was carried out, especially for the frequency of headache and the craniocervical muscles were also done by the author in the first visit. All the subjects filled out the questionnaires, that was, for the evaluation of sleep quality using Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI), and for the analysis of behavioral pain scale questionnaires. Data obtained were statistically processed by the SPSS Windows program and the results of this study were as follows: 1. Subjective sleep index, sleep latency, sleep disturbance, global score in control group were significantly lower than 2. Subjective sleep index, sleep disturbance, global score in subject with headache were significantly lower than subject without headache(P<0.05). 3. Medicine taker have sleeping drug. Caffeine drinkers was significantly higher in daytime dysfunction, global score than no drinker. 4. It have more frequent head and neck pain, pain spreading, daily life difficult in poor sleeper than good sleeper.
