This paper presents the fundamental study on rational manufacture of Ultra High Strength(VHS) concrete using industrial by-products as like silica fume, slag and fly ash. In this study, we had tested various mixing cases to manufacture the UHS concrete(target compressive strength : over $1,000kgf/cm^2$) which is easily workable (target slump flow : $60{\pm}10cm$). The main variables are studied: 1) to find the optimum replacement ratio of mineral admixture. 2) to find a rational water-binder ratio and a proper binder content. 3) to find the method for reduction of slump loss. From the test results, it is concluded that the rational mix design can be made by using 40% slag, 10% silica fume. We found that compressive strength of UHS concrete increases according to decreasing W/B ratio but in W/B ratio 18~20%, the difference is vague and the compressive strength does not necessarily increase according to increasing binder content over 700kg.
This study was designed to evaluate the feasibility of direct application of quenched slag, as a silicate fertilizer byproduct of iron and steel industry. A field experiment was conducted on a low silica content paddy soil and its effect was compared to over corresponding air-cooled slag of milled commercial silicate fertilizer on rice plant growth and yields. The yields of rice were slightly higher in the commercial air-cooled slag than in the quenched slag, however, there was no significant statistical difference. The silica content of rice plants at harvest was higher in commercial silicate fertilizer than that of quenched slag. The available soil silica was high in quenched slag at the early growing stage, however, at harvest higher in air-cooled slag, which meant that the quenched slag might release silica quickly in soil. This results indicated that the slag could be considered resource as a silicate fertilizer.
Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) is a special class of the new generation of high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites (HPFRCC) featuring high ductility with relatively low fiber content. In this research, the mechanical performance of ECC beams will be investigated with respect to the effect of slag and aggregate size and amount, by employing nonlinear finite element method. The validity of the models was verified with the experimental results of the ECC beams under monotonic loading. Based on the numerical analysis method, nonlinear parametric study was then conducted to evaluate the influence of the ECC aggregate content (AC), ECC compressive strength ($f_{ECC}$), maximum aggregate size ($D_{max}$) and slag amount (${\phi}$) parameters on the flexural stress, deflection, load and strain of ECC beams. The simulation results indicated that when increase the slag and aggregate size and content no definite trend in flexural strength is observed and the ductility of ECC is negatively influenced by the increase of slag and aggregate size and content. Also, the ECC beams revealed enhancement in terms of flexural stress, strain, and midspan deflection when compared with the reference beam (microsilica MSC), where, the average improvement percentage of the specimens were 61.55%, 725%, and 879%, respectively. These results are quite similar to that of the experimental results, which provides that the finite element model is in accordance with the desirable flexural behaviour of the ECC beams. Furthermore, the proposed models can be used to predict the flexural behaviour of ECC beams with great accuracy.

Strength experimental on mortar which use Quenched Blast-Furnace Slag as aggregate was carried our for a fundamental study of application possibility of Quenched Blast-Furnace Slag as aggregate. It gives the following results. The strength of mortar use Quenched Blast-Furnace Slag is decrease as substitution rate is higher. As W/C rate increase, the strength decrease, but the strength decrease of fine aggregate rate 1:3 is lower than 1:2. The relation with fine aggregate is that the amount of fine aggregate is inversely proportional to strength. Th relation with age is proportional to strength and strength rate of going is lower than general mortar in 28 age the change of strength proportionately with W/C rate is that as W/C rate increases, th strength is drop ; it shows that it has same tendency as general mortar sand or crushed sand, but while W/C rate increase the strength is as high as general mortar. The reason can be assumed that water content per unit needed to Quenched Blast-Furance Slag is more than in case of sand. In addition, the relation with substitution rate is that the strength is the strongest at substitution rate 25% and 50% ; that is , sometimes it is higher than mortar which use sand 100%. In addition, long age strength of mortar which use Quenched Blast-Furnace Slag as aggregate is about to be studied in the last.
To improve the chloride ingress resistance of concrete, slag is widely used as a mineral admixture in concrete industry. And currently, most of experimental investigations about non steady state diffusion tests of chloride penetration are started after four weeks standard curing of concrete. For slag blended concrete, during submerged chloride penetration tests periods, binder reaction proceeds continuously, and chloride diffusivity decreases. However, so far the dependence of chloride ingress on curing ages are not detailed considered. To address this disadvantage, this paper shows a numerical procedure to analyze simultaneously binder hydration reactions and chloride ion penetration process. First, using a slag blended cement hydration model, degree of reactions of binders, combined water, and capillary porosity of hardening blended concrete are determined. Second, the dependences of chloride diffusivity on capillary porosity of slag blended concrete are clarified. Third, by considering time dependent chloride diffusivity and surface chloride content, chloride penetration profiles in hardening concrete are calculated. The proposed prediction model is verified through chloride immersion penetration test results of concrete with different water to binder ratios and slag contents.

This paper reports the effects of coarse and fine recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) on fresh and hardened properties of self-compacting concrete (SCC) containing ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) as cement replacement. For this purpose, three SCC mixes groups, were produced at a constant water to binder ratio of 0.38. Both fine and coarse recycled aggregates were used as natural aggregates (NA) replacement at different substitution levels of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% by volume for each mix group. Each group, included 0, 15% or 30% GGBFS as Portland cement replacement by weight. The SCC properties investigated were self-compactability parameters (i.e., slump flow, T500 time, V-funnel flow time, L-box passing ability and sieve stability), compressive strength, capillary water absorption and water penetration depth. The results show that the combined use of RCA with GGBFS had a significant effect on fresh and hardened SCC mixes. The addition of both fine and coarse recycled aggregates as a substitution up to 50% of natural aggregates enhance the workability of SCC mixes, whereas the addition from 50 to 100% decreases the workability, whatever the slag content used as cement replacement. An enhancement of workability of SCC mixes with recycled aggregates was noticed as increasing GGBFS from 0 to 30%. RCA content of 25% to 50% as NA replacement and cement replacement of 15% GGBFS seems to be the optimum level to produce satisfactory SCC without any bleeding or segregation. Furthermore, the addition of slag to recycled concrete aggregates of SCC mixes reduces strength losses at the long term (56 and 90 days). However, a decrease in the capillary water absorption and water permeability depth was noticed, when using RCA mixes with slag.
Oxygen equilibrium and the solubility of MgO have been measured in the $CaO-Fe_tO-MgO-SiO_2({\leq}5mass%)-{\Sigma}M_xO_y$ slag in equilibrium with liquid iron in the temperature range of 1550 to $1700^{\circ}C$. The effect of oxides on the MgO solubility, and a method for calculating the solubility of MgO using slag composition and temperature, were discussed. The solubility of MgO is increased with increasing temperature and $Fe_tO$ content, and with decreasing basicity (C/S). The effect of ${\Sigma}M_xO_y$ on the solubility of MgO is a dilution effect due to the increase in slag volume. The activity and activity coefficient of $Fe_tO$ decreased with increasing basicity (B). The effect of temperature on the activity was negligible. The value of ${\rho}=Fe^{3+}/Fe^{2+}$ increased with the increase of the slag basicity (B") and the decrease of the $Fe_tO$ content in the slag.

The purpose of this paper is to compare free-chloride content with water-soluble chloride in blast furnace cement(BSC) paste. The content of free-chloride in cement paste measured by pore solution analysis and water-soluble chloride measured by ASTM. The result of this study are as follows: 1. The concentration of chloride ion in pore solution of BSC-solidified matrix is almost as low as 43-71% compared to that of OPC-solidified matrix containing the same chloride content in cement paste. 2. The binding capacity of specimens, OPC Pl-P5, are 93.5-77%, but the binding capacity of specimens, BSC Pl-P5 are 97.1-86.1%, which is to be as high as 2-9.1% compared to OPC containing the same chloride content. 3. In terms of water-soluble chloride content in BSC paste are 15-31.7 percent of chloride addition but free-chloride content in pore solution are 2.9-13.9 percent of chloride addition. The free-chloride content in pore solution is 19.3-43.8 percent lower for the water-soluble chloride content in cement paste.
3D printing cement-based materials (3DPCBM) is an innovative rapid prototyping technology for construction materials. This study is tested on the rheological behavior, printability and buildability of steel slag (SS) content based on the extrusion system of 3D printing. 0, 8 wt%, 16 wt%, 24 wt%, 32 wt% and 40 wt% SS was replaced cement, The test results revealed that the addition of SS would increase the fluidity of the printed paste, prolong the open time and setting time, reduce the plastic viscosity, dynamic yield stress and thixotropy, and is beneficial to improve the pumping and extrudability of 3DPCBM. With the increase of SS content, the static yield stress developed slowly with time which indicated that SS is harmful to the buildability of printing paste. The content of SS in 3DPCBM can reach up to 40% at most under the condition of satisfying rheological property and buildability, it provides a reference for the subsequent introduction of SS and other industrial solid waste into 3DPCBM by explored the influence law of SS on the rheological properties of 3DPCBM.
EAF processed slag which contains about 20 ~ 35 weight percent FetO is poured to slag pot and cooled. If we recover Fe from molten slag by the reduction, we will improve steel yield rate and reduce slag quantity poured from the furnace. Usually, carbon is used as a reductant and slag foaming agent in the EAF process. In this experiment, after melt the metal in induction furnace and then add slag with carbon and Al dross powder as a reductant, we investigated the reduction of FetO from slag and change of Phophorus content. As the result, when we use Al dross as a reductant, recovery rate is two times more than carbon. Phosphorus pick up is less than 50ppm with reduction of EAF slag.
