  • Alkali-activated binder (AAB) is increasingly being considered as an eco-friendly and sustainable alternative to portland cement (PC). The present study evaluates 30 different AAB mixtures containing fly ash and/or slag activated by sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate by correlating their properties from micro to specimen level using regression. A model is developed to predict compressive strength of AAB as a function of volume fractions of microstructural phases (physicochemical properties) and ultrasonic pulse velocity (elastic properties and density). The predicted models are ranked and then compared with the experimental data. The correlations were found to be quite reasonable (R2 = 0.89) for all the mixtures tested and can be used to estimate the compressive strengths for similar AAB mixtures.

  • If cement can be manufactured with industrial byproducts such as granulated blast furnace slag(GBFS), phosphogypsum(PG), and waste lime(WL) instead of clinker as its counterproposal, there would be many advantages, including maximum use of these industrial byproducts for high value-added resources, conservation of natural resources and energy by omitting the use of clinker, minimized environmental pollution problems caused by $CO_2$ discharge, and reduction of the production cost. This research investigates the chemical resistance of NSC mortar added PG and WL to GBFS as sulfate and alkali activators. The result of experiment of chemical resistance, showed that NSC is very excellent in acid resistance and seawater resistanc. Such a reasons are that the hydrate like CSH gel and ettringite formed dense pore structure of NSC matrix.

  • This paper focused on development of geopolymer for wood wool ceramic board. Geopolymer can substitude ordinary portland cement and its accelerator of wood wool cement board as inorganic polymer. In this study, what we would obtain geopolymer's properties such as initial setting time(KS L 5108), flow(KS L 5102) and compressive strength of 3days aged(KS L 5105), was less than 1 hour, more than $110\%$, more than 40Mpa. Geopolymer have three essential materials called filler, hardener and geopolymer liquor. So, We applied filler by quartz, hardener by blast furnace slag powder, metakaoline and fly ash, geopolymer liquor by NaOH, KOH and sodium silicate solution. As result of this experiment, what we could obtain best fitted geopolymer's properties such as initial setting time, flow and compressive strength of 3days aged, was 45min, $116\%$ and 43.6Mpa. This result can be applicable to commercial wood wool ceramic board.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the basic properties of polyester mortars using ground calcium carbonate(GCC), blast furance slag(BFS), fly ash(FA), ordinary portland cement(OPC) as fillers. Particle size distribution, particle shape and resin absorption of GCC, BFS, FA and OPC are checked. Polyester mortars with GCC, BFS, FA and OPC are prepared with various MEKPO content and tested for working life. The flexural and compressive strengths of the polyester mortars with MEKPO content of 0.5phr are evaluated. As a test result, the average sizes of GCC, BFS, FA and OPC are 9.7$\mu\textrm{m}$, 11.6$\mu\textrm{m}$, 21.2$\mu\textrm{m}$, 29.9$\mu\textrm{m}$. Resin absorption of FA is 1.5times larger than other fillers. The polyester mortar with FA at a MEKPO content of 0.5phr has the longest working life and the maximum flexural and compressive strengths.

  • This study is about the rheological properties of cement slurry using admixtures. The variables are the type of cement(Type I, II, IV, V) and the substitution ratio of admixtures such as fly ash and slag. As a result of measuring the fluidity of various types of cement slurry at the early stage, type 2, type 4 and type 5 showed the similar property. The fluidity of type 1 and ternary blended cement was low. it is thought that it is because of the high $C_3$A content. The cement slurries containing mineral admixtures were superior in the property of fluidity retention.

  • This paper describes the sulfate resistance of cement pastes and mortar with or without ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS). Sulfate attack was performed on the cement pastes and mortar, which had been prepared by using a water-binder ratio of 0.45. Variables were the fineness levels of GGBS and the concentrations of two sulfate solution. In this present study, compressive strength and length change were carried out to evaluate the sulfate resistance of GGBS with various fineness levels. From the test results, it can be concluded that the deterioration modes of cement matrix with GGBS were dependent on the exposure solutions. Moreover, the influence of fineness levels of GGBS on the sulfate resistance was somewhat little because of a relative short exposure period.

  • This study is to specify the properties of solidification/stabilization of heavy metals in connection with looking over the hydration features of non-sintering cement using industrial by-products. In this study, we added Cr and Pb to non-sintering cement(NSC), ordinary portland cement (OPC), and Blast-furnace slag cement(BSC) to specify the solidification process. Heavy metal leaching test was carried out to evaluate solidification degree of various cement. Follow result, marking no higher than 0.7% of un-solidified ratio of BSC was the most predominant result when we mixed the materials with Cr. 5.8% for NSCI and 6.2% for NSC2. On the contrary, in case of adding Pb, NSCl and NSC2 made better solidification results than those of OPC(below 0.2%) and BSC(below 0.05%), marking nearly 0%.

  • The rheology properties of cement paste with variation of quantity and type of mineral admixture were investigated. The rheology of the paste was assessed by using a HAAKE Rotovisco(RT 20) rheometer having cylindrical serrate spindle. The results were as follows: The viscosity and the yield stress of cement paste were decreased by the only replacement of 10% BFS(blast furnace slag) or the only replacement of 30% FA(fly ash), whereas SF(silica fume) increased them as the replacement quantity was increased. Increasing the dosage of HRWR(high-range water reducer), the rheology properties were improved significantly in cement paste with the replacement of SF. In addition, rheology properties of two ingredient blended pastes, such as BFS(20%)-SF(5%), FA(20%)-SF(5%), were improved more than those of three ingredient blended paste, BFS(20%)-FA(20%)-SF(5%).

  • Compressive strength, sulfate deterioration factor(SDF) and length change of 5 types of mortars immersed in sodium sulfate solution were observed. As the results of tests, it was found that the sulfate resistance of blended cement mortars were superior to that of portland cement mortars. Pore volume with diameter larger than 0.1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ of 5 types of pastes indicated that the micro-structures of blended cement pastes were denser, due to pozzolan reaction and latent hydraulic properties, than those of portland cement pastes. The XRD, ESEM, EDS and TG analyses demonstrated that the reactants such as ettringite and gypsum were significantly formed in portland cement pastes. Besides, compared with the $Ca(OH)_2$ content of ordinary portland cement pastes immersed in water and sodium sulfate solution, the $Ca(OH)_2$ contents of fly ash blended cement and ground granulated blast-furnace slag cement paste were about 58% and 28% in water, and 55% and 20% in sodium sulfate solution, respectively.
