  • The purpose of this paper was to study of blast furnace slag cement of high early strength and replacement ordinary portland cement. we prepared the specimens of cement and concrete with various mixing proportions of elementary materials. For example, clinker, gypsum(1~10%), fineness $4, 000~6, 000cm^2/g$ of blast furnace slag(30~50%), limestone etc. As a result of this study, fineness $(4, 000cm^2/g)$ blast furnace slag was of used replacement ordinary portland cement and fineness $(6, 000cm^2/g)$ blast furnace slag was of used blast furnace slag cement of high early strength.

  • The effect of the mixing ratio of compounds in a slag-OPC-Gypsum system on the physical properties of Slag cement is investigated in this study. $Na_2SO_4$ was used as an alkali activator. Blast furnace slag cement was prepared from a mixture of blast furnace slag, ordinary Portland cement and anhydride gypsum. The fluidity and the compressive strength according to the ratio of each mixture were analyzed in statistical analyses in order to discover the parameters influencing the fluidity and compressive strength. The results showed that the hydration of blast furnace slag took place with the addition of $Na_2SO_4$ and that column-crystalline ettringite was created as the main hydration product of the blast furnace slag. In addition, it was found that the compressive strength of blast furnace slag cement tends to increase when the ordinary Portland cement content is higher up to three days. However, it is known that the compressive strength tends to increase as the blast furnace slag content becomes higher with increases in the level of OPC after 28 days. As a result of this analysis, it is believed that the ordinary Portland cement content influences the initial compressive strength of blast furnace slag cement, and that in later days this is highly influenced by the slag content.

  • Converter slag has some compositional similarities to portland cement. But it has no hydration properties due to it's quite high concentrations of FeO(20-35%), MnO(4-6.5%). So it is needed to reduce the concentrations of iron and manganese of converter slag to use as cement additives by enhancing it's hydration properties. In this study, converter slag was modified it's composition by mixing of silica, alumina and quenched BF slag and reduced in induction furnace and quenched in running water. The hydraulic properties and structures of modified and quenched converter slag are significantly changed depend on the amount and kinds of additives. The addition of alumina up to 10% and BFQ slag up to 20% by weight on converter slag was effective to enhance the hydraulic properties of modified and quenched slag. The addition of reduced and quenched converter slag up to 20% by weight in replacement of portland cement in mixing of concrete mortar were shown higher compressive strength than 100% cement concrete mortar.

  • In this study, rheological properties of cement pastes containing ground Finex-slag (4000, 6000, 7000 c$m^2$/g) were investigated bymini-flow test and coaxial cylinder viscometer. And also blast furnace slag(4000, 6000, 7000 c$m^2$/g) were used for comparison. According to the experimental results, Finex-slag and blast furnace slag showed very similar trend in the rheological properties of the cement pastes. The fluidity of cement pastes blended Finex-slag and blast furnace slag powder were improved by high replacement ratio. In the relationship of plastic viscosity and yield stress appeared the tendency of the proportion greatly. And in the relationship of plastic viscosity, yield stress and mini-flow appeared the tendency of the inverse proportion.

  • The alkali-slag-red mud(ASRC) cement belongs to clinker free cementitious material, which is made from alkali activator, blast-furnace slag(BFS) and red mud in designed proportion. This study is to investigate strength and pore characteristics of alkali-activated slag cement(NC), clinker free cementitious material, and ordinary portland cement(C) mortars using polymer according to red mud content. The results showed that the hardened alkali-activated slag-red mud cement paste was mostly consisted of C-S-H gel, being very fine in size and extremely irregular in its shape. So the hardened ASRC cement paste has lower total porosity, less portion of larger pore and more portion of smaller pore, as compared with those of hardened portland cement paste, and has higher strength within containing 10 wt.(%) of alkali-activated slag cement(NC) substituted by red mud.

  • The enhanced slag fineness and the batch water of low water-to-cement ratio(W/C) were employed in order to improve the early strength of blast-furnace slag blended cement at low temperature. A grinding aid was used to grind the blast-furnace slag into the fineness of 6,280$\textrm{cm}^2$/g (Blaine), and this fine slag was then homogeneously mixed with the ordinary Portland cement to produce the blast-furnace slag blended cement containing 40% slag by weight composition. On the other hand, the batch water could be reduced from W/C=0.50 (KS L 5105) to W/C=0.33 through a commercial, naphthalene type superplasticizer. Through the method mentioned above, the early strength of the blast-furnace slag blended cement at low temperature could be enhanced even somewhat higher than the Portland cement strength. And the microsturcture of the cement was studied by both the pore structure analysis and the A.C. impedance measurement.

  • Reduced and modified converter slag was ball milled and sieved to -200/+325 mesh. CaO,$SiO_2$, $Fe_2$$O_3$ was added to slag powder and mixed to make it similar to the composition of normal portlant cement. The pellet made of this powder was heated from $1250^{\circ}C$ to $1450^{\circ}C$ for 15 min~45 min. Most feasible condition for making slag cement clinker is the heating more than 20 min at $1450^{\circ}C$. The compressive strength of the mortar made of this slag cement clinker was better than that of normal port-lant cement in long time curing.

  • Light-weight foamed concrete using cement as a raw material consumes a lot of energy and generates $CO_2$ because of the high temperature firing process in the manufacturing process of cement. This study was carried out to evaluate the use of blast furnace slag through the properties analysis by substituting a certain amount of blast furnace slag as an industrial by-product as a substitute for cement. The experimental results showed similar characteristics to those of using only cement when the blast furnace slag fine powder was used in an appropriate amount. Therefore, if a certain amount of cement is replaced with blast furnace slag powder, it can maintain similar quality, reduce natural resources and energy consumption, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

  • In an effort to improve the mechanical properties of the belite cement active belite cement clinker was synthesized. Properties of the clinker were characterized by a XRD, FT-IE optical microscopy and SEM. The additive effects of slag on the hydration properties were investigated by the measurement of compressive strength heat evolution and SEM. The experimental results exhibited that the 3wt% borax was effective in stabilizing $\alpha$'-C2S and the addition of 5wt% anhydrite and 40wt% slag wee effective in the hydration.
