  • This paper describes an analytical study on the design approach of PC system with continuous connections at member ends. In multi-ribbed moment resisting slab (MRS) system, double tee members are connected continuously over inverted tee beams with the continuous reinforcements placed within topping concrete. Thus, negative moments are concentrated within the narrow connection area. In order to propose a design method, experimental results of the companion study were examined using detailed nonlinear analysis. Then nonlinear static analysis was used to evaluate the partial continuity effect and the moment redistribution mechanism. Material and cross sectional properties were obtained from experimental results of the companion study. Plastic hinge properties for nonlinear static analysis were modeled with cracking moment, nominal moment, corresponding member deformations, etc. The analysis results showed that a large amount of negative moment of MRS slab can be reduced by applying partial continuity and moment redistribution in MRS joint.

  • Concrete bridge constructed in metropolitan cities has different superstructure members like slabs and girders, and their carbonation depths vary with different design strengths and local environmental conditions. In this paper, 54 concrete cores were obtained from prestressed concrete girders and the related tests were performed for compressive strength and carbonation depth measurement. Referred to the specified compressive strength of 24MPa for slab and 35MPa for I-type girder, the strengths from cores were evaluated to 82% and 73% of design grade, respectively. For carbonation depth, the slab member showed 30.6mm of average with 32.9% of COV(Coefficient of Variation) and I-type girder showed 16.7~17.0mm with 22.8~33.6 of COV. The I-type girder has much lower carbonation depth and COV compared to slab member, however it has higher COV than column structures.

  • The equivalent frame method (EFM) is widely used for the design of two-way reinforced concrete slab structures, and current design codes of practice permit the application of the EFM in analyzing the flat plate slab structures under gravity and lateral loads. The EFM was, however, originally developed for the flat plate structures subjected to gravity load, which is not suitable for lateral loading case. Therefore, this study, the first part of series research paper, proposed the structural analysis method for the flat plate slab structures under the combined gravity and lateral loads, which is named as the unified equivalent frame method (UEFM). In the proposed method, some portion of rotation induced in the torsional member is distributed to the flexibility of the equivalent columns, and the remaining portion is contributed to that of the equivalent slabs. In the consecutive companion paper, the proposed UEFM is verified by comparing with test results of multi-span flat plate structures. Also, a simplified nonlinear push-over analysis method is proposed, and verified by comparing to test results.

  • The problem of reducing the self-weight of reinforced concrete structures is very important issue. There are two approaches which may be used to reduced member weight. The first is tackled through reducing the cross sectional area by using voids and the second through using light weight materials. Reducing the weight of slabs is very important as it constitutes the effective portion of dead loads in the structural building. Eleven slab specimens was casted in this research. The slabs are made one way though using two simple supports. The tested specimens comprised three reference solid slabs and eight styropor block slabs having (23% and 29%) reduction in weight. The voids in slabs were made using styropor at the ineffective concrete zones in resisting the tensile stresses. All slab specimens have the dimensions ($1100{\times}600{\times}120mm$) except one solid specimens has depth 85 mm (to give reduction in weight of 29% which is equal to the styropor block slab reduction). Two loading positions or cases (A and B) (as two-line monotonic loads) with shear span to effective depth ratio of (a/d=3, 2) respectively, were used to trace the structural behavior of styropor block slab. The best results are obtained for styropor block slab strengthened by minimum shear reinforcement with weight reduction of (29%). The increase in the strength capacity was (8.6% and 5.7%) compared to the solid slabs under loading cases A and B respectively. Despite the appearance of cracks in styropor block slab with loads lesser than those in the solid slab, the development and width of cracks in styropor block slab is significantly restricted as a result of presence a mesh of reinforcement in upper concrete portion.

  • In this study, the tests were performed on a series of reinforced concrete strip specimens to investigate a cracking behavior of reinforced concrete voided slab bridge. Also, the mid-span deflections, the crack widths and failure mode of reinforced concrete strip specimens were studied. It was found that serviceability of cracking and deflection at reinforced concrete voided slab bridge which were constructed and designed under verifying serviceability as design criteria are lower than common reinforced concrete member. On the basis of the experimental results, it is more reasonable concrete to evaluate crack occurring $f_r=2.0\surd{f_{ck}}$ rather than modulus of rupture of concrete, $f_r=0.8\surd{f_{ck}}$

  • Post-tensioning is an effective way to reduce both the depth and reinforcement contents for the reinforced concrete member. In this research, we applied post-tensioning to transfer slab in shear wall type apartment building to reduce depth and reinforcement of transfer slab.

  • Recently the construction of railway sections passing the central area of cities and stations under railway lines are increasing, and then it is urgently required to take the countermeasures against the railway vibration and the second-phase noise radiated from it. The most efficient countermeasure, out of technologies developed up to now, is the floating slab track which is the track system isolated from the sub-structure by springs. In other countries, the source technologies for anti-vibration design and vibration isolator - one of key components - have been developed and many installation experiences have been accumulated. However, in Korea, since the system design technology and technologies for key components are not yet developed, the foreign system are being introduced without any adjustment, and the key component, vibration isolator, depends on imports. In this study, floating slab was divided into three spans, $k_{dynamic}$ use by examining reactions and member forces was to ensure safety.

  • The design process of RC Slab includes multiple procedures such as structural analysis, member design, the production of calculation sheets, CAD, and itemized statements of quantities. The objective of this study is to develope an integrated design system that includes all the steps needed for RC Slab design, and as a result, to improve the quality and efficiency of the design process. In this study, the design steps are divided into structural modules and database, and each module and database is systematically combined for the complete design process. The developed design system is based on Web environment. Therefore it can be used in real time and reduces the design work time and space.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the response of the high-strength concrete beam-column-slab subassembly with the response of a normal-strength concrete specimens. Four assemblies were designed 2/3 scale beam-column-slab joint(fc'=240kg/cm2 fc'=700kg/cm2) and tested to investigate seismic behaviour. From the test results 1) flexral cracks emerge to inside of bean deeply for high strength concrete member 2) the high-strength specimens represented stable hysteretic behaviour for the displacement ductility 5.5 but degradation in stiffness and strength and unstable hysteretic behaviors were observed owing to the brittleness of high-strength concrete beyond its range.

  • When using the light-weight form with polystyrene on slab, as a result of reducing the weight of slab, the span was increased or size of supporting member for slab was decreased. But capacity of punching shear resistance on the slab using the polystyrene form with plat plate system was deteriorated at critical section around the column. But standard for estimate of internal force did not exist, and established study was insufficient. This study performed the experiment on the punching shear for understanding punching shear force at the slab-column connection using the slab with polystyrene form. The principal variable was size of column, arrangement of polystyrene form and existence of shear reinforcement, and we planned four specimens. From the test, we analysed the crack, failure mode, road-displacement graph and punching shear strength, and capacity of punching shear resistance for slab using the polystyrene form was understood.
