Toes socks are used widely for the health of feet. However, discomfort is one of the major complains from toes socks users. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of functional fibers on the physiological response and wearing sensation of toes socks. For experiment, two different toes socks with cotton/warm fiber(WS) and cotton/chitosan fiber(CS) were knitted automatically by a computer controlled flat knitting machine. The control toes socks with cotton/nylon/polyurethan(TS) were prepared to compare the properties. Experiments were conducted in a climate room of $16\pm2^{\circ}C$, $50\pm5%$ R.H. The results of this study were as follows. The change of heart rate, pulse rate, and mean skin temperature showed no difference among three different socks. However, skin temperature of TS was evaluated higher than that of WS and CS. After exercise wearing WS both instep temperature and sole temperature of women tend to higher compared to men. Wet sensation and overall comfort sensation of toes socks were significantly influenced by different fiber contents. Subjects evaluated WS and CS more comfortable than TS.

The study was performed to optimize the processing conditions (alkali concentration, extraction time, and temperature) for rockfish skin gelatin based on yield using response surface methodology and comparison of the physicochemical properties with those of rockfish skin gelatin pretreated and extracted under ordinary conditions (alkali treatment concentration: 1.0 M; extraction time: 2 hr; extraction temperature: $60^{\circ}C$). Predicted maximum gelatin yield of 19.1% and gelatin content of 87.8% were obtained by extraction at $106.6^{\circ}C$ for 69.0 min after pretreatment with 1.1 M calcium hydroxide. Yield of gelatin extracted under high temperature/high pressure (G-HT/HP) was 54% higher than that extracted under ordinary temperature/time (G-OT/T). However, G-HT/HP was inferior in gel strength and gelling point to (G-OT/T), but comparable in transmission. Based on the physicochemical properties, G-HT/HP was unsuitable for use in products requiring higher physical properties, but could be useful for health-functional foods.

Hot spring water is underground water which naturally flows out to the earth's surface or is drilled for artificially and the water temperature should be higher than the region's average temperature for the year or underground water temperature of the earth's shallow strata of the region. Our nation stipulates that hot spring can be called if it is over $25^{\circ}C$. Generally, it is widely know that hot spring water has an effect on blood circulation, pain alleviation, soothing, and skin care and that its efficacy is mainly due to water temperature and a variety of minerals contained in water. The Onyang springs are the oldest spring district in our country and one of the most typical hot springs in this country. The current study found that there's no skin irritation through the skin irritation test applying hot spring water to cosmetic formulas, and that products using Onyang hot spring water showed an increase of 8.56% in epidermal water rate and a decrease of -67.74% in relative transepidermal water loss(TEWL), which indicates that cosmetics using Onyang hot spring water has an effecton skin improvement.

In order to establish the diagnostic indices of skin diseases, some physiological and pathological concepts of interstices(腠理) were researched based on , and western dermatology with etymological analysis. As physiological indices for diagnosis of skin diseases, measurement of epidermis and dermis using ultrasonogram in the zhongwan and dachui's location. And for grading looseness and fineness of interstices with 3 unsound groups, measuring numbers and sizes of sweat pores in each point's 1 cm diameter circular area using comparative method and palpation assessment. Another index is superficial temperature. As pathological indices for diagnosis, validating volumes of dead skin cells and grading degrees of atrophy and degeneration of skin lesion. And as supplementary measures, absorptive degrees of cosmetics on face should be recorded according to 3 grades. These diagnostic indices can contribute to establishment of standard pattern identification and prescription of skin diseases through converting anatomical cognizance into classical concepts of interstices objectively.

This study evaluates wear comforts of water-vapor-permeable (WVP) garments through a measurement of various parameters such as skin and rectal temperatures, microclimate between skin and clothing, sweat rate, and subjective sensations (thermal, wet and comfort sensations) to correlate the physiological responses of the human body with its comfort feeling. Wear comfort during a specific exercise on a treadmill in a climatic chamber (temperature T = $20{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity H = $50{\pm}10%$) were studied using eight men wearing seven sportswear outfits (a long sleeve shirts and a long pants) made with seven different WVP fabrics. A comfort sensation was found to be highly correlated with skin T (p<.001), microclimate (T and H) between skin and clothing (p<.001) and sweat rate (p<.05). A regression model correlating comfort sensations and physiological responses obtained from wearer trials could be established: Y = 14.167 - 0.362 ${\times}$ X1 + 0.424 ${\times}$ X2 - 0.238 ${\times}$ X3 - 0.561 ${\times}$ X4 + 0.253 ${\times}$ X5 + 0.214 ${\times}$ X6 - 0.393 ${\times}$ X7 + 0.023 ${\times}$ X8 - 0.043 ${\times}$ X9. (Y = comfort sensation, X1 = forehead skin T, X2 = forearm skin T, X3 = hand skin T, X4 = thigh skin T, X5 = T of chest microclimate, X6 = T of thigh microclimate, X7 = chest sweat rate, X8 = H of back microclimate, X9 = H of thigh microclimate. The regression model obtained in this work can be used by manufacturers to objectively estimate the comfort sensation of sportswear before it is introduced to the consumer market. This study provides salient information to sportswear manufacturers and sportswear consumers.
This study has intended to suggest fundamental data to develope and choose appropriate shoes for upland farming in order to prevent health deterioration of women workers and improve work effectiveness and reduce fatigue by wearing appropriate shoes. During 1995. 4. 28 - 5. 10, Fifty women workers in hot pepper farming were observed and major shoe types, which were rubber shoes, walking shoes, slippers, and rubber boots, were selected for the study. During 1995. 10. 9 - 31, two subjects were tested by wearing those shoes in the laboratory where the temperature was 24$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity 50$\pm$5%RH. And the temperature & humidity on sole and in the shoes, the rectal temperature, skin temperature, blood pressure, pulse, lactate concentration of blood, Flickers' value and subjective sensation were measured. The results were as follows : 1. 84% of women workers mentioned that they need shoes improvement and the order of most frequent shoe types to be worn was rubber shoes, walking shoes, slippers, rubber boots. 2. The rate of women who were unsatisfied with shoes for upland farming is 38 percentages. The reason of unsatisfaction was that feet were in a sweat and alien substances were let into shoes. 3. The temperature & humidity on sole were the lowest in rubber boots during experiment(p<0.01). 4. The relative humidity in the shoes was the highest in rubber boots by 90% and the lowest in walking shoes by 72% during rest And the humidity in slippers and walking shoes were significantly low in experiment(p<0.001). 5. Rubber boots showed the highest rise in rectal temperature by 0.2$^{\circ}C$ showing increase of core temperature (p<0.05). 6. The mean skin temperature during experiment was highest in rubber boots by 33.8$^{\circ}C$(p<0.001).
The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of the thermal environment, and to analyze the relationship between the thermal reactions and the skin temperatures in the lying position in the radiant floor heating system. The results are as follows: 1) The globe temperature was nearly equal to the operative temperature in the room. 2) The floor surface temperature and the globe temperature were 26.4$^{\circ}C$ and 23.6$^{\circ}C$, respectively when the whole body temperature was at neutral point. 3) The mean temperature of the six skin parts was 31.3$^{\circ}C$ (cold thermal environment); 34.1$^{\circ}C$ (neutral thermal environment); 35.1$^{\circ}C$ (hot thermal environment).

Background: The diagnostic criteria of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) have mainly focused on dichotomous (yes/no) categorization, which makes it difficult to compare the inter-patient's condition and to evaluate the intra-patient's subtle severity over the course of time. To overcome this limitation, many efforts have been made to create laboratory methods or scoring systems to reflect the severity of CRPS; measurement of the skin temperature asymmetry is one of the former, and the CRPS severity score (CSS) is one of the latter. However, there has been no study on the correlations among the CSS, temperature asymmetry and subjective pain score. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether there is any correlation between the CSS, skin temperature asymmetry and subjective pain score. Methods: Patients affected with CRPS in a unilateral limb were included in this study. After making a diagnosis of CRPS according to the Budapest criteria, the CSS and skin temperature difference between the affected and unaffected limb (${\Delta}T$) was measured in each patient. Finally, we conducted a correlation analysis among the CSS, ${\Delta}T$ and visual analogue scale (VAS) score of the patients. Results: A total of 42 patients were included in this study. There was no significant correlation between the ${\Delta}T$ and VAS score (Spearman's rho = 0.066, P = 0.677). Also, the CSS and VAS score showed no significant correlation (Spearman's rho = 0.163, P = 0.303). Conclusions: The ${\Delta}T$ and CSS do not seem to reflect the degree of subjective pain in CRPS patients.

To figure out an appropriate pressure level for a body warming base layer, human responses were observed when the pattern reduction of base layers varied. Under the condition of $2^{\circ}C$, 60% RH, 0.1m/s, ten male subjects participated in the experiment with four sizes of experimental vests where heating pads were attached. The subjective evaluations of the heating vests with different sizes were reported using 7 or 9 point scales. We simultaneously observed chest, abdomen and scapula skin temperatures and microclimate humidity. It was found that the tight pattern as in the case of A or B provided a warmer subjective sensation and skin temperature than C or D; however, there were no differences in skin temperature at the chest. Eventually, the chest temperature decreased after about 30 mins of heating; however, temperature of abdomen increased and indicated that heating with two commercial pads used was inadequate for whole body warming. The pressure sensation of 'tight' was improved after warming the abdomen in a cold environment. Overall, the gaps beyond the original circumference of the abdomen, as in C or D, were not desirable for the local heating of abdomen under the conditions of this experiment where walking was included in the protocol. The experiment garment B with nude waist circumference was the best, and D with the largest ease, was the worst for a comfortable warming vest.

We investigate the transient temperature response in biological tissue whose surface is exposed to alternately varying sinusoidal oscillation. Based on the Pennes bio-heat equation, we apply numerical analysis using a finite element method to find the effects of the physical properties of the skin layers. Three layers of tissue-epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous-are considered as the solution region. We investigate the effects of different properties of the skin layers on the temperature profile. We also investigate the effects of the perfusion rate for the dermis, which is the most sensitive layer. The results show that the temperature profile of tissue depth has a discontinuous point when different physical properties are used.
