  • The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of the home range and habitat use of Rhinolophus ferrumequinum individuals that inhabit urban areas. The bats were tracked using GPS tags. For analysis of the home rage, Minimum Convex Polygon (MCP) and Kernel Home Range (KHR) methods were used. The landscape types of all positional information were analyzed using ArcGIS 9.3.1 (ESRI Inc.). The average home range of 16 R. ferrumequinum individuals was $68.63{\pm}25.23ha$, and the size of the overall home range for the females ($85.49{\pm}25.40ha$) was larger than that for the males ($51.76{\pm}8.30ha$). The highest average home range for the males was found in August ($61.21{\pm}0.01ha$), whereas that for the females was found in September ($112.27{\pm}5.94ha$). The size of 50% KHR ranged from a minimum of 13.26 ha to a maximum of 31.00 for the males and a minimum of 8.02 ha to a maxinum of 42.16 ha for the females, showing no significant differences between the two sexes. In addition, males and females showed no differences in the size of 50% KHR in the monthly comparisons. However, the females showed differences in the size of their core area between periods before and after giving birth. The comparisons between 100% MCP and 50% KHR showed that the types of habitats used by R. ferrumequinum were mostly forest areas, including some farmlands. In addition, comparisons with a land cover map showed that the proportion of broad-leaved forests was the highest, followed by that of mixed forests.

  • Background: The objective of this study was to underline that litter size as a key trait of sows needs new parameters to be evaluated and to target an individual optimum. Large individual variation in litter size affects both production and piglet's survival and health negatively. Therefore, two new traits were suggested and analyzed. Two data sets on 5509 purebred German Landrace sows and 3926 Large White and crossing sows including at least two parental generations and at least five parities were subjected to variance components analysis. Results: The new traits for evaluating litter size were derived from the individual numbers of total born piglets (TBP) per parity: In most cases, sows reach their maximum litter size in their fourth parity. Therefore, data from at least five parities were included. The first observable maximum and minimum of TBP, and the individual variation expressed by the range were targeted. Maximum of TBP being an observable trait in pig breeding and management yielded clearly higher heritability estimates ($h^2{\sim}0.3$) than those estimates predominantly reported so far. Maximum TBP gets closer to the genetic capacity for litter size than other litter traits. Minimum of TBP is positively correlated with the range of TBP ($r_p=0.48$, $r_g$ > 0.6). The correlation between maximum of TBP and its individually reached frequency was negative in both data sets ($r_p=-0.28$ and - 0.22, respectively). Estimated heritability coefficients for the range of TBP comprised a span of $h^2=0.06$ to 0.10. Conclusion: An optimum both for maximum and range of total born piglets in selecting sows is a way contributing to homogenous litters in order to improving the animal-related conditions both for piglets' welfare and economic management in pig.

  • In order to investigate the influence of the magnetic paticle size and its properties on the particulate magnetic material, we evaluated the dispersion of magnetic particles and the electromagnetic properties in magnetic tape made from the magnetic paints by use of each magnetic particles witch were different from particle size and its propertis. The dispersion of magnetic particles depends on the surface chemical properties rather than particle size. As particle size is smaller, the packing ratio of magnetic particle and the magnetic flux density in tape increase. The output levels in playing back of tape incerase in wide frequency range from 315 Hz to 10 kHz and the noises decrease. It is very important to choose the size, the shape, the surface chemical properties and the magnetic properties of the magnetic particle in producing the high quality magnetic tape.

  • In this paper, a novel MBE (Model Based target size Estimator) is presented for SDIIR (Strap Down Imaging Infrared) seekers. The target tracking requires the target size information for which residual range between target and missile should be provided. Unfortunately, in general, the missile with passive sensor such as IIR (Imaging Infrared), CCD (Coupled Charging Device) cannot obtain range information. To overcome the problem, the proposed method enables the SDIIR seeker to estimates target size by using target size model and track the target. The performance of proposed method is tested at IIR target tracking of target intercept scenario. The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm has the relatively good performance.

  • The log-normal size distribution theories developed recently for aerosol coagulation are reviewed. The analytical solutiosn to Brownian coagulation developed recently for various particle size regimes are reviewed. In order to describe the evolution of the size distribution of a coagulating aerosol over the entire size range, the analytical solutions developed individually for the free-molecule regime, the transition regime, the nearcontinuum regime, and the continuum regime have been combined. The work described here represents the first analytical solution to the aerosol coagulation problem covering the entire particle size range.

  • Lately, over 4K high definition and high dynamic range (HDR) display devices are popularized, various interpolation and HDR methods have been researched to expand the size and the dynamic range. Since most of the legacy low resolution (LR) images require both an interpolation and a HDR tone mapping methods, the two processes should be subsequently applied. Therefore, the proposed algorithm presents a HDR up-scaling algorithm using undecimated wavelet transform and Retinex method, which transfers a LR image of low dynamic range (LDR) into the high resolution (HR) with HDR. The proposed algorithm consists of an up-scaling scheme increasing the image size and a tone mapping scheme expanding the dynamic range. The up-scaling scheme uses the undecimated version of the simplest Haar wavelet analysis for the 8-directional interpolation and the change region is extracted during the analysis. This region information is utilized in controlling the surround functions' size of the proposed tone mapping using MSRCR, to enhance the pixels of around the edges that are dominant feature of the subjective image quality. As the results, the proposed algorithm can apply an up-scaling and tone mapping processes in accordance with the type of pixel.

  • This paper proposes a real-time dynamic storage allocation algorithm QSHF(quick-segregated-half-fit) that provides various memory allocation policies. that manages a free block list per each word size for memory requests of small size good(segregated)-fit policy that manages a free list per proper range size for medium size requests and half-fit policy that manages a free list per proper range size for medium size requests and half-fit policy that manages a free list per each power of 2 size for large size requests. The proposed algorithm has the time complexit O(1) and makes us able to easily estimate the worst case execution time(WCET). This paper also suggests two algorithm that finds the proper free list for the requested memory size in predictable time and if the found list is empty then finds next available non-empty free list in fixed time. In order to confirm efficiency of the proposed algorithm we simulated the memory utilization of each memory allocation policy. The simulation result showed that each policy guarantees the constant WCET regardless of memory size but they have trade-off between memory utilization and list management overhead.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the actual status regarding the size selection for jackets, skirts, and slacks among the ready-to-wears worn by adult women, and to examine the physical measurements of major parts for the women wearing each dress size. The data collection was made through the questionnaires obtained from 699 adult women of 20 to 59 years of age. The questionnaire is composed of the sizes of ready-to-wears worn and physical measurements of the respondents. The data analysis was conducted through description statistics, Crosstabs, ANOVA. The findings are as follows. 1. The differences were found in the sizes of ready-to-wears worn by adult women along the age ranges. 2. The ratios of correspondence for the sizes of jackets and skirts and for the sizes of jackets and slacks were as high as 77.3% and 78.3%, respectively. 3. The differences were found in every physical measurement item of the jacket wearers by the size. The girth items showed an increase with the larger sizes of jackets, whereas the height was the largest for the wearers of Sizes 55 and 66, regardless of the jacket sizes. The differences in the physical measurements by the age range, among the jacket wearers of the same size, were found in the height and the waist girth. The height was lower and the waist girth was larger, with the older age. In addition, the differences in the wearers' physical measurements, by the jacket size of the same age range, were found in every item including the height among those in their 20's, and in every item excluding the height among those in their 30's or the above.

  • The characteristics of atmospheric aerosols were investigated as a function of particle size and water solubility. The atmospheric aerosols were sampled with classifying into 12 size ranges by the use of Andersen low-pressure impactor. Collected aerosol particles were extracted by ultrapure water and filtered to be separated into water-soluble and insoluble components. The concentrations 12 elements in both components were determined by PIXE analysis. And the concentrations of 8 ions in the soluble component were analyzed by ion chromatography. In general, the mass size distribution of particulate matter was represented as a bimodal distribution. The mass size distributions of S$(SO_4^{2-}), K(K^+), Zn and NH_4^+$ skewed to the smaller size range and those of Si, Ca$(Ca^{2+}), Fe, Na^+ and Mg^{2+}$ skewed to the larger size range. They had roughly one peak in the fine and coarse particle region, respectively. On the other hand, the mass size distribution of Ti, Mn, Ni, Cu, $Cl^- and NO_3^-$ were represented as the bimodal distribution. Fe and Si in the aerosol particles extracted into pure water are existing in high insoluble state. Conversely, almost the whole of S is dissolved in water.

  • The large size electromagnetic flowmeter was tested to investigate the variation of its error characteristics in the range of low velocity under 0.6 m/s using flowmeter calibration system. For the two case of valve opening rate 100 % and 50 %, these tests were undertaken three times each for twelve velocity condition from $0.05\;^m/s\;to\;0.6\;^m/s$ with increment of $0.05\;^m/s$. It is shown that error characteristic of electromagnetic flowmeter was stabilized within ${\pm}0.4%$ of rate both higher than $0.25^m/s$ of velocity condition and 50 % of valve opening position. But, measurement deviation of flowmeter for ${\Phi}400mm\;and\;{\Phi}600mm$ was out of expected deviation range. It is necessary to correction with calibration. In conclusion, error characteristic of electromagnetic flowmeter wasn't changed proportion to its size.
