Overtourism in Jeju Island: The Influencing Factors and Mediating Role of Quality of Life

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how the problems caused by overtourism affect the quality of life of Jeju residents and their perceptions of the overtourism phenomenon by exploring related factors for future policy implications. In the research model, each independent factor related to tourists affects the quality of life of residents, and the mediation variable (QoL) ultimately agrees with overtourism. This study uses Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), which is less influenced by the sample size. The research is based on 360 questionnaires. The test results showed that cultural factors affected the QoL statistically at 1% significance level, and economic factors were significant at 5%. The quality of life variable affects the agreement of overtourism (p-value 1% significance level). An indirect effect analysis on whether each independent factor affects the overtourism factor through the parameter of the QoL of the residents showed that the cultural factor at 5% level statistically affected it, and economic factors were significant at 10%. In conclusion, we recommend implementing both economic and cultural factors to reduce the negative perception of overtourism for the policy planning. Further research in multiple aspects should be continued to overcome the vulnerability of the Island destination tourism.

광학센서를 이용한 알약계수기의 계수알고리즘 향상에 관한 연구 (Research for enhanced counting algorithm of optical pill counting machine)

  • It is fundamental to count and pack the pills in the medicine manufacture field but those tasks are time and labor consuming. Thus, the need fur automation of those tasks is necessarily getting increased in order to get effective mass production. It Is significant to perceive pills quickly and precisely. There were many trials for this processing but the performance of the existing counting machines varies about size, shape and dispersion tendency of pills. In this paper, the authors try to improve the counting performance of a pill counting machine that has optical sensors with the neural network. The passing signal of pill is acquired with optical sensor and the passage signal of the pill is extracted as input patterns. The gradient and integration of signal during passing time and the time keeping the pill interrupt the light from the LED are used as characteristic feature. The back propagation and perception algorithm are used for training. Experimental results with several pills show that the designed algorithm is a little bit effective to reduce the noise effect which is generated from interference among the machine components and unreliable environment.

Contractors' Perception towards Safety and its Consequences on Construction Workers in Cape Coast Metropolis

  • The construction environment has been declared as a hazard prone area due to high number of accident and death. The study aims to identify influential factors that contribute to poor safety practices and its consequences on construction workers in Cape Coast Metropolis. Seventy respondents were taken as the sample size for the study. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data obtained from the field. Findings show that poor site management, working without safety gadgets, failure to use their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and negligence of workers were the main causes of accidents on sites. Poor site management had the highest ranking among the seven variables. Effects of poor safety practices on building construction site and delays in work execution were due to injury of workers, extra cost due to payment of compensation to injured victims, not motivated due to injury of worker and declined reputation of firm. Management team should motivate workers for safe work done, provide adequate PPE for their workers on site and have documented health and safety policy on site. Site authorities and management team should be on site regularly to ensure proper safety practices on construction site.

소비자의 UCC 참여 유형과 참여동기 분석 (Consumer's Types of the Participation and the Motivation for the UCC Services)

  • This study identifies key determinants and types of participation in UCC Services. The research examines the how the major factors in perception of social presence, fun and entertainment, self-expression, arousal, human relations, positive feedback, information sharing, monetary business opportunity, and user friendliness of web structure contribute to participation in UCC Services. The data used in this study were collected by a web-based survey so that 629 internet users were available for analysis. Some of the practical implications of the results are follows. We have categorized that the type of people participating in UCC Services were readers, modifiers, remixers, and creators. Digital consumers directly connected with other consumers by producing their own digital contents. Multiple regression analysis among the creators group was not included due to small sample size. Self expression, fun and joy and the convenience of the web interface showed strong positive significant impacts on the UCC Service participation of all participation types. Information sharing, other's positive reputation and arousal showed a positive significant impact on the modifiers or remixers type groups. Monetary business opportunity and human relations were not significant in any UCC type group.

LEARNING PERFORMANCE AND DESIGN OF AN ADAPTIVE CONTROL FUCTION GENERATOR: CMAC(Cerebellar Model Arithmetic Controller)

  • As an adaptive control function generator, the CMAC (Cerebellar Model Arithmetic or Articulated Controller) based learning control has drawn a great attention to realize a rather robust real-time manipulator control under the various uncertainties. There remain, however, inherent problems to be solved in the CMAC application to robot motion control or perception of sensory information. To apply the CMAC to the various unmodeled or modeled systems more efficiently, it is necessary to analyze the effects of the CMAC control parameters on the trained net. Although the CMAC control parameters such as size of the quantizing block, learning gain, input offset, and ranges of input variables play a key role in the learning performance and system memory requirement, these have not been fully investigated yet. These parameters should be determined, of course, considering the shape of the desired function to be trained and learning algorithms applied. In this paper, the interrelation of these parameters with learning performance is investigated under the basic learning schemes presented by authors. Since an analytic approach only seems to be very difficult and even impossible for this purpose, various simulations have been performed with pre specified functions and their results were analyzed. A general step following design guide was set up according to the various simulation results.

비선형 스케일링 함수를 이용한 어안 영상의 원근 변환 (Conversion of Fisheye Image to Perspective Image Using Nonlinear Scaling Function)

  • 어안 렌즈 카메라로 촬영한 어안 영상은 일반 카메라 영상보다 화각이 크다. 반면 영상에서 피사체의 왜곡이 커서 사용자의 인지가 어려우므로 원근 영상으로 변환이 필요하다. 기존의 Ishii 방법[1]은 등거리 투영을 사용하므로 피사체가 변환 영상에서 크기와 기하학적 왜곡이 생기는 문제점을 가지고 있었다. 본 논문에서는 스케일링 함수를 이용한 어안 영상의 원근 영상 변환 방법을 제안하였다. 실험에서, 제안한 방법은 스케일링 함수를 적용함으로써 크기 왜곡과 기하학적 왜곡이 감소되었다.

초속경 라텍스개질 콘크리트의 균열발생 특징분석 (Analysis of Crack Pattern of Very-Early Strength Latex-Modified Concrete)

  • Concrete is a material that will crack during its service life by its very nature. For bridge decks this is especially significant as these cracks allow accelerated ingress of chlorides and the subsequent corrosion of the reinforcing steel and deck deterioration. Very-early strength latex-modified concrete (below ; VES-LMC) was developed in order to realize early-opening-to-traffic bridge deck concrete. Although there has been little research to document the degree of cracking in VES-LMC overlay, there has been a general perception among highway agencies that overlay cracking of VES-LMC, particularly early-age cracking, is a one of problems which should be solved. The purpose of this study was to analyze the cause of map, transverse and longitudinal cracking in VES-LMC and to provide a control methods for minimizing the occurrence of cracks. The proposed prevention against map and transverse cracking was verified by field applications. VES cement was modified, the unit cement contents was reduced into $360kg/m^3$ from $390kg/m^3$, the maximum size of coarse aggregate was increase into 19mm from 13mm, wire mesh and steel fibers were incorporated in concrete mixture.

Genetic Algorithm을 이용한 부분방전 패턴인식 최적화 연구 (A Study on Optimization of Partial Discharge Pattern Recognition using Genetic Algorithm)

  • 본 논문은 부분방전(PD: Partial Discharge)의 패턴인식 확률 극대화를 목적으로 신경망(NN: Neural Network) 파라미터 중에서 은닉층 뉴런의 수, 모멘텀(momentum)의 Step size와 Decay rate 를 최적화하기 위하여 유전 알고리즘(GA: Genetic Algonthm)을 적응하였다. 실험적 연구의 대상으로서, GIS(Gas Insulated Switchgear)사고의 주요 원인으로 보고되어있는 결함들을 인위적으로 모의한 16개 Test cell을 이용하여 부분방전을 발생시켰다. 부분방전 신호는 본 연구팀이 개발한 센서를 이용하여 검출되어 데이터베이스가 구축되어 그로부터 추출된 학습 데이터들의 학습에 다음과 같은 5가지 신경망 모델이 적응되었다: Multilayer Perception (MLP), Jordan-Elman Network (JEN), Recurrent Network (RN), Self-Organizing Feature Map (SOFM), Time-Lag Recurrent Network (TLRN). 유전 알고리즘 적용 효율성을 분석하기 위하여 동일한 데이터를 이용하여 다음과 같은 두 가지 방법을 적용한 결과를 상호 비교하였다. 우선 상기 선택된 모델만 적용하였고 다근 하나는 상기 모델과 Genetic Algorithm이 동시에 적용되었다. 모든 모델에 대하여 학습오차와 패턴 분류 확률을 비교한 결과, 유전 알고리즘 적응 시 부분방전 패턴인식 확률이 향상되었음이 확인되어 향후 신뢰성 있는 GIS 부분방전 진단기술에 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

Small size IoT Device Monitoring System Modeling applying DEVS methodology

  • In this paper, we propose a Designed and Developed home router management system. Through the fourth industrial revolution and development of IoT technology, now people can experience a wide range of IoT related services at their workplace or daily lives. At the industrial site, IoT devices are used to improve productivity such as factory automation, and at home, IoT technology is used to control home appliances from a remote distance. Usually IoT device is integrated and controlled by the router. Home router connects different IoT devices together at home, however when security issues arise, it can invade personal privacy. Even though these threats exist, the perception for home router security is still insufficient. In this paper, we have designed and developed home router management system using DEVS methodology to promote the safe use of home router. Through the DEVS methodology, we have designed the system and developed the mobile application. This management system enables users to set up security options for home router easily.

의료시설 디자인의 복잡성과 필요전문지식의 인식 (Perception of Healthcare Design Complexity and Specialized Knowledge in Need)

  • Healthcare design has been considered as one of the most complex design types. In this study, healthcare design complexity is analysed by the following categories: (1) function; (2) medical technology; (3) scientific knowledge; (4) aesthetics; and (5) interest group complexity. The central questions here are: (1) What is the impact of specialized knowledge on the professional practice; and (2) What are the relationships between design complexity and specialized knowledge. To answer these questions, this study utilizes two approaches, including mail-out questionnaires survey and in-person and focus group interviews. This study found that healthcare design architects emphasize the technical component of specialized healthcare design knowledge. Thus they perceive that architectural research, as a tool to increase specialized healthcare design knowledge, is beneficial to solve the technical components including medical technology and functional problems. In the professional practice, however, architectural research is hardly conducted due mainly to the lack of money and time for it. Different perceptions regarding healthcare design complexity and architectural research among the firms exist, depending on the firm size. These results imply that the knowledge management strategy of large firms can be more efficient to the organizational growth than the small firms.
