  • Objective: This study aimed to provide policy implications by studying the class size of early childhood education institutes. Methods: By looking through researches, the educational influence of class size was examined. By using the latest statistical data, class size standard and status were compared. After class size perception in the field was considered and the main results of advanced researches were summarized and analyzed, the actual condition of class size was diagnosed. Furthermore, the national research trend was analyzed. Results: First, class size was an influencing factor on young children and teachers and its importance was reconfirmed. Second, as for standard in relation to class size in Korea, the maximum class size and teacher-child ratio were not presented together. In respect of overseas standards, infancy has similar standards, but early childhood has a little higher ratio. In the educational fields, there was growing awareness that class size should be modified. Third, there were not enough domestic researches on class size and they tended to be biased in terms of the method, targets, and contents. Conclusion/Implications: It is suggested that it is necessary to establish a class size policy for future early childhood education institutes, to implement a system, and to perform follow-up studies.

  • Silicon nanoparticles are widely studied as a material with great potential for wide applications. For application to present industry, it should be easy to control the characteristics of nanoparticle including the size and structure. In this paper, we investigated the formation of Si nanoparticle using pulse plasma technology. Plasma technology is already quite common in device industry and the size of nanoparticle can be easily controlled according to plasma pulse duration. An inductively-coupled plasma chamber with RF power (13.56 MHz) was used with DC-biased grid $(-200\sim+200\;V)$ installed above the substrate. In order to measure the shape and size of nanoparticle, TEM was used. It was found that the size of nanoparticles can be controlled well with the plasma pulse duration and the collection efficiency is increased with the use of either negative or positive DC-bias.

  • It is well known that the variance of tally is biased in a Monte Carlo calculation based on the power iteration method. Several studies have been conducted to estimate the real variance. Among them, the batch method, which was proposed by Gelbard and Prael, has been utilized actively in many Monte Carlo codes because the method is straightforward, and it is easy to implement the method in the codes. However, there is a problem when utilizing the batch method because the estimated variance varies depending on batch size. Often, the appropriate batch size is not realized before the completion of several Monte Carlo calculations. This study recognizes this shortcoming and addresses it by permitting selection of an appropriate batch size.

  • Critical cryptography applications require the production of an unpredictable and unbiased stream of binary data derived from a fundamental noise mechanism. In this paper, we proposed a RNG with Gaussian noise using filter algorithm. The proposed scheme is designed to reduce the statistical property of the biased bit stream in the output of a RNG. Experimental show that we analysis the loss rate according to window size and propose optimum window size.

  • Using panel data from the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLlPS), we examine the wage differentials between standard and Don-standard workers. To control for unobserved individual heterogeneities, we estimate the fixed effect models. Our results show that the OLS estimates are upwardly biased. We also find that labor unions and firm size are important determinants of the wage differentials.

  • In this paper, we propose a interval censored regression spline model with a variance function (non-constant variance that depends on a predictor). Simulation studies show our estimates from MCECM algorithm are consistent, but biased when the sample size is small because of boundary effects. Also, we examined how the distribution of $x_i$ affects the converging speed of these consistent estimates.

  • The cross-validation is a popular method to select bandwidth in all types of kernel estimation. The maximum likelihood cross-validation, the least squares cross-validation and biased cross-validation have been proposed for bandwidth selection in kernel density estimation. In the case that the probability density function has a discontinuity point, Huh (2012) proposed a method of bandwidth selection using the maximum likelihood cross-validation. In this paper, two forms of cross-validation with the one-sided kernel function are proposed for bandwidth selection to estimate the location and jump size of the discontinuity point of density. These methods are motivated by the least squares cross-validation and the biased cross-validation. By simulated examples, the finite sample performances of two proposed methods with the one of Huh (2012) are compared.

  • The microstructure and thermal properties of the Mn-IriNi-Fe exchange biased multi-layers with various buffer layers and stacking structures have been investigated. The H$_{e{\chi}}$ and the T$_{b}$ depend on the Mn-Ir grain size at the interface between the Mn-Ir layer and the Ni-Fe layer, The (111) preferred orientation of Mn-Ir/Ni-Fe on the Ta buffer layer may promote the values of J$_{k}$ and H$_{e{\chi}}$. The samples which produce the Hex have the epitaxial relationship at the interface between the Mn-Ir layer and the Ni-Fe layer due to the generation of misfit dislocation.

  • In designing the quantizer of a coding scheme using a training sequence (TS), the training algorithm tries to find a quantizer that minimizes the distortion measured in the TS. In order to evaluate the trained quantizer or compare the coding scheme, we can observe the minimized distortion. However, the minimized distortion is a biased estimate of the minimal distortion for the input distribution. Hence, we could often overestimate a quantizer or make a wrong comparison even if we use a validating sequence. In this paper, by compensating the minimized distortion for the TS, a new estimate is proposed. Compensating term is a function of the training ratio, the TS size to the codebook size. Several numerical results are also introduced for the proposed estimate.

  • A numerical study is conducted to investigate the periodically unstable shock induced combustion around blunt bodies in stoichiometric hydrogen-air mixtures. Euler equations are spatially discretized by upwind-biased third order scheme and temporally integrated by Runge-Kutta method. Chemistry model used in this study involves 8 elementary kinetics steps and 7 species. At a constant Mach number, the effects of projectile size, inflow pressure and inflow temperature are examined with Lehr#s experimental condition as a reference. In addition to oscillation frequency, characteristic distances and time averaged values are found from the result to find an relation with dimensionless parameters. As a result, it is found that the effects of inflow pressure and body size are very similar and $Damk{\ddot{o}}hler$ number plays an important role in determining the instability characteristics.
