Diesel, DME, Bio-diesel 연료가 실제 도로 주행 조건에서 입자상물질 배출에 미치는 영향 파악 (On-road Investigation of PM Emissions according to Vehicle Fuels (Diesel, DME, and Bio-diesel))

  • To measure the traffic pollutants with high temporal and spatial resolution under real conditions, a mobile emission laboratory (MEL) was designed. The equipment of the mini-van provides gas phase measurements of CO, NOx, CO2 and THC (Total hydrocarbon), and number density & size distribution measurements of fine and ultra-fine particles by a fast mobility particle sizer (FMPS) and a condensation particle counter (CPC). The inlet sampling port above the bumper enables the chasing of different type of vehicles. This paper introduces the technical details of the MEL and presents data from the experiment in which a MEL chases a city bus fuelled by diesel, DME and Bio-diesel. The dilution ratio was calculated by the ratio of ambient NOx and tail-pipe NOx. Most particles from the bus fuelled by diesel were counted under 300 nm and the peak concentration of the particles was located between 30 and 60 nm. However, most particles in the exhaust of the bus fuelled by DME were nano-particles (diameter: less than 50 nm). The bus fuelled by Bio-diesel shows less particle emissions compare to diesel bus due to the presence of the oxygen in the fuel.

지반보강재로서 폐타이어 사용에 따른 환경영향 분석 (Environmental Characteristics of Waste Tire for Use as Soil Reinforcement)

  • 본 연구에서는 지반보강재로서 폐타이어 사용에 따른 환경영향을 평가하기 위하여 실내실험 및 현장시험시공을 수행하였다. 실내실험을 통하여 폐타이어의 용출특성에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 폐타이어의 입경과 배수조건을 변화시켜가며 유출수의 pH, 탁도, TOC, Zn 농도를 분석하였다. 또한, 현장시험시공을 통하여 폐타이어를 이용한 보강토 옹벽 시공 후 하부 집수정의 수질을 분석하였다. 입경에 따른 용출실험 결과 폐타이어 입경이 증가할수록 용출농도가 감소하는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이는 비표면적의 차이 때문으로 판단된다. 배수조건에 따른 용출실험 결과 배수조건인 경우 시간이 경과할수록 용출농도가 감소하여 주변 환경에 큰 영향을 미치지 않을 것으로 판단되나, 비배수 조건인 경우 시간이 경과할수록 용출농도가 증가하는 현상을 발견할 수 있었다. 1년간의 현장모니터링 결과 폐타이어로 보강된 옹벽으로부터 발생되는 침출수는 전반적으로 용출농도가 높지 않은 것으로 나타났으며, 침출수 발생 초기에 농도가 증가하다가 이후 점점 감소하여 원수인 우수와 비슷해지는 경향을 나타내었다. 따라서 폐타이어를 지반보강재로 사용함에 따라 발생하는 환경적 영향은 무시할 수 있는 수준임을 알 수 있었다.

Changes in the Ångstrom Exponent during Aerosol Coagulation and Condensation

  • In this study, the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent for polydispersed aerosol during dynamic processes was investigated. Log-normal aerosol size distribution was assumed, and a sensitivity analysis of the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent with regards the coagulation and condensation process was performed. The ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent is expected to decrease because of the particle growth due to coagulation and condensation. However, it is difficult to quantify the degree of change. In order to understand quantitatively the change in the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent during coagulation and condensation, different real and imaginary parts of the refractive index were considered. The results show that the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent is sensitive to changes in size distribution and refractive index. The total number concentration decreases and the geometric mean diameter of aerosols increase during coagulation. On the while, the geometric standard deviation approaches monodispersed size distribution during the condensation process, and this change in size distribution affects the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent. The degree of change in the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent depends on the refractive index and initial size distribution, and the size parameter changes with the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent for a given refractive index or chemical composition; this indicates that the size distribution plays an important role in determining the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent as well as the chemical composition. Subsequently, this study shows how the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent changes quantitatively during the aerosol dynamics processes for a log-normal aerosol size distribution for different refractive indices; the results showed good agreement with the results for simple analytic size distribution solutions.

Amphiphilic graft copolymers: Effect of graft chain length and content on colloid gel

  • A series of amphiphilic graft copolymers were synthesized by varying the number of graft chains and graft chain lengths. The polarity of the hydrophobic graft chain on the copolymers was varied their solution properties. The glass transition temperature of the copolymers was in the low-temperature region, because of the amorphous nature of poly (trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC). The surface morphology of the lyophilized colloid gel had a bundle structure, which was derived from the combination of poly(N-hydroxyethylacrylamide)( poly(HEAA)) and PTMC. The solution properties were evaluated using dynamic light scattering and fluorescence measurements. The particle size of the graft copolymers was about 30-300 nm. The graft copolymers with a higher number of repeating units attributed to the TMC (trimethylene carbonate) component and with a lower macromonomer ratio showed high thermal stability. The critical association concentration was estimated to be between $2.2{\times}10^{-3}$ and $8.9{\times}10^{-2}mg/mL$, using the pyrene-based fluorescence probe technique. These results showed that the hydrophobic chain of the graft copolymer having a long PTMC segment had a low polarity, dependent on the number of repeating units of TMC and the macromonomer composition ratio. These results demonstrated that a higher number of repeating units of TMC, with a lower macromonomer composition, was preferable for molecular encapsulation.

기계발골 계육으로부터 닭고기 수리미의 제조 (Surimi Preparation from mechanically Deboned Chicken Meat)

  • The mechanically deboned chicken meat(MDCM) has several limits in using for in using for in processed meat products as a main material because of poor color and textural properties, chance of microbial contamination and lipid oxidation. There has been a growing interest all over world in the application of MDCM to the surimi process. The surimi made from MDCM contains a high concentration of myofibrillar protein since this processing involves repeated washing processes with an aqueous solution in order to remove heme pigments, fat and other undesirable substances. The quality of the surimi made from MDCM is affected by various processing factors, such as kinds of wash solution, ion strength, washing cycle, temperature, pH changes, composition, part of muscle, particle size, and rigor state etc. A number of researchers havee investigated the effect of the various washing conditions on the properties of surimi gels. A fuller information of all the factors affecting surimi processing and gel formation by heat-induced gelation has not been known yet.

가로림만 표층 퇴적물 내 미량금속 분포 특성 (Trace Metals in Surface Sediments of Garolim Bay, Korea)

  • 가로림만 퇴적물에서 미량금속의 인위적인 영향을 평가하기 위하여 2010년과 2015년 총 77개의 표층 퇴적물 시료를 채취하여 물리적 특성 요소(입도 및 비표면적)와 지화학적 요소(주성분(Al, Ca, Fe, K, Ba) 및 미량금속(Mn, Cs, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pb), 유기탄소 및 탄산칼슘)들을 분석하였다. 가로림만 표층 퇴적물의 평균 입도는 0.51-5.58 Ø(평균 3.98 Ø) 범위였으며 외만에서부터 내만으로 증가하였고, 수로에서 육지 방향으로 증가하였다. 일부 원소를 제외한 대부분의 금속 농도는 입자의 크기가 작아지고 비표면적이 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. 미량금속의 농도를 조절하는 요인을 추정하기 위하여 요인분석(factor analysis)을 실시하여, 총 3개의 요인을 추출(총 변이의 92.7%) 하였다. 요인 1은 총 변이의 71.3%를 설명하였는데 입도 요인이었고, 요인 2는 총 변이의 14.2%를, 요인 3에서는 총 변이의 7.2%를 설명하였다. 배경농도를 이용하여 농축인자를 계산하였다. 농축인자가 1.5 이상인 금속과 그 시료 수는 Cr 4개(정점 1, 16, 27, 39)와 Pb 1개(정점 39)였으나 이 들 금속에 대한 용출 금속 농도에서는 타 시료와 차이가 없었다. 가로림만의 총 금속 농도에 대한 1M HCl 용출 금속 농도의 백분율은 Pb~Co>Cu>Zn~Mn>Ni>Cr 순서로 감소하였으며 Pb은 입도에 따른 변화를 보였으나 다른 금속들은 모래를 제외하면 매우 일정한 값을 보였다. 이 값을 오염된 지역 및 청정 해역과 비교하면 모든 지역에서 Cu, Zn 및 Pb의 농도 수준과 관련없이 금속별 백분율이 유사하였다. 이는 1M HCl 용액과 퇴적물 구성 성분 사이의 반응 여부에 따른 결과라고 판단되고, 농축 정도를 판단하는데 이 용출 비율을 사용하는 것은 한계가 있음을 나타낸다.

가스터빈 연소기내의 선회분무연소 특성 (The Characteristics of Swirl Spray Combustion in Gas Turbine Combustor)

  • The present study conducted experimental study of spray combustion to investigate the effect of the inlet conditions of fuel and air on the flame structure, the flame stability and the characteristics of emission in the can-type model of a gas turbine combustor. In the experiment, the diameter of fuel droplet was measured using Malvern particle size analyser and temperatures in the combustion chamber were measured with R-type shielded thermocouple. In addition, flame structure was taken picture with camera and analysed. Gas analyser was also used to analyse the concentration of each components of exhausting gas. The experimental results showed that the flame condition was optimal with swirl number, 0.63 and equivalence ratio, 0.5 for controlling the flame stability, the combustion temperature and the NOx concentration. The present study concluded that both the flame structure and the emission formation were strongly affected by the swirl intensity, which selection was found as an important parameter for either stabilizing flame or lowering the quantity of NOx.

Performance assessment of HEPA filter to reduce internal dose against radioactive aerosol in nuclear decommissioning

  • The thermal cutting of contaminated or activated metals during decommissioning nuclear power plants inevitably results in the release of radioactive aerosol. Since radioactive aerosols are pernicious particles that contribute to the internal dose of workers, air conditioning units with a HEPA filter are used to remove radioactive aerosols. However, a HEPA filter cannot be used permanently. This study evaluates the efficiency and lifetime of filters in actual metal cutting condition using a plasma arc cutter and a high-resolution aerosol detector. The number concentration and size distribution of aerosols from 6 nm to 10 ㎛ were measured on both the upstream and downstream sides of the filter. The total aerosol removal efficiency of HEPA filter satisfies the standard of removing at least 99.97% of 0.3 ㎛ airborne particles, even if the pressure drop increases due to dust feeding load. The pressure drop and particle size removal efficiency at 0.3 ㎛ of the HEPA filter were found to increase with repeated cutting experiments. By contrast, the efficiency of used HEPA filter reduced in removing nano-sized aerosols by up to 79.26%. Altogether, these results can be used to determine the performance guidance and replacement frequency of HEPA filters used in nuclear power plants.

$n$-Dodecanol 용액에서 저밀도폴리에틸렌 마이크로 입자 결정화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Crystallization of Low Density Polyethylene Microparticles in $n$-Dodecanol Solution)

  • In this study, we are crystallized to the low density polyethylene (LDPE) micro-particles in $n$-dodecanol solution by thermally induced phase separation(TIPS) method. The Low density polyethylene micro-particles is used in a wide variety of polymer coatings and industrial application. The utility of that for a particular application depends on a number of factors such as the particle size and distribution, and chemical composition of the materials. However, there are still needs for new methods of preparation which will provide the structure with unique sizes. The widely used processes for micro-size particles are crystallization method and thermally induced phase separation. TIPS process based on the phase separation mechanism was performed for the LDPE system which undergoes liquid-solid phase separation. Effects of various operating parameters were examined on the structure variation of the particles. Professionality, take-up speed and crystallization rate depended on temperature and concentration of polymer in solution.

High Time-resolution Characterization of PM2.5 Sulfate Measured in a Japanese Urban Site

  • The high time-resolution monitoring data are essential to estimate rapid changes in chemical compositions, concentrations, formation mechanisms, and likely sources of atmospheric particulate matter (PM). In this study, $PM_{2.5}$ sulfate, $PM_{2.5}$, $PM_{10}$, and the number concentration of size-resolved PMs were monitored in Fukuoka, Japan by good time-resolved methods during the springtime. The highest monthly average $PM_{2.5}$ sulfate was found in May ($8.85{\mu}g\;m^{-3}$), followed by April ($8.36{\mu}g\;m^{-3}$), March ($8.13{\mu}g\;m^{-3}$), and June ($7.22{\mu}g\;m^{-3}$). The cases exceed the Japanese central government's safety standard for $PM_{2.5}$ ($35{\mu}g\;m^{-3}$) reached 10.11% during four months campaign. The fraction of $PM_{2.5}$ sulfate to $PM_{2.5}$ varied from 12.05% to 68.11% with average value of 35.49% throughout the entire period of monitoring. This high proportion of sulfate in $PM_{2.5}$ is an obvious characteristic of the ambient $PM_{2.5}$ in Fukuoka during the springtime. However, the average fraction of $PM_{2.5}$ sulfate to $PM_{2.5}$ in three rain events occurred during our intensive campaign fell right down to 15.53%. Unusually high $PM_{2.5}$ sulfate (> $30{\mu}g\;m^{-3}$) marked on three days were probably affected by the air parcels coming from the Chinese continent, the natural sulfur in the remote marine atmosphere, and a large number of ships sailing on the nearby sea. The theoretical number concentration of $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ in $PM_{0.5-0.3}$ was originally calculated and then compared to $PM_{2.5}$ sulfate. A close resemblance between the diurnal variations of the theoretically calculated number concentration of $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ in $PM_{0.5-0.3}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ sulfate concentration indicates that the secondary formed $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ was the primary form of sulfate in $PM_{2.5}$ during our monitoring period.
