The temperature-rasing sintering method was used in this study to fabricate the aggregates of uniform pore size and distribution containing reject ash occurred in the thermal power plant. The spheric green aggregates made of reject ash were put into the box furnace of 800~$1000^{\circ}C$, heated with a heating rate of 5~$15^{\circ}C$/min to 1200~$1275^{\circ}C$, sintered for 10 min and then discharged out of the furnace to the room temperature. The input temperature, heating rate and sintering temperature increased the bloating phenomenon of the specimen, and the sintering temperature among them was the most effective factor. The aggregate manufactured at $1275^{\circ}C$ had the specific gravity of about 1.0 and water absorption of 1~2%, and the pores of 500~1,000 ${\mu}m$ were uniformly distributed across the whole specimen. Especially, the aggregates fabricated using the temperature-rasing sintering method in this study showed an excellent bloating properties and uniform microstructure without black core phenomenon which is typical for the bloated ceramics synthesized by direct sintering method.

Two types of CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 (CAS) glass powder applied spray coating on the surface of sintered Al2O3 were researched for sintering behavior; (1) Si-rich, glass containing high content SiO2, (2) Ca-rich, containing high content CaO. Foaming of bubbles remaining inside the Ca-rich glass was produced at a viscosity of approximately 107~109 poise, resulting in decreasing shrinkage (interfering with sintering) and increasing surface roughness. In case of Si-rich glass, there was no serious foaming bubbles phenomenon like Ca-rich below 1000℃, however cristobalite crystals with low density occurred at 1200℃ and then produced re-foaming of bubbles, resulting in abnormal sintering behavior. These phenomenon is considered to be a decrease in viscosity due to an increase in the Ca content of the glass according to the formation of low-density cristobalite crystals. Therefore, in case of CAS glass, it is necessary to consider the increase of surface roughness and the sintering interference because of foaming bubbles phenomenon at low temperature sintering. Especially, when containing high SiO2 content, abnormal foaming phenomenon due to crystallization at high temperature should be predicted.
Sintering behavior of 2xxx series Al alloy was investigated to obtain full densification and sound microstructure. The commercial 2xxx series Al alloy powder. AMB2712, was used as a starting powder. The mixing powder was characterized by using particle size analyzer, SEM and XRD. The optimum compacting pressure was 200 MPa, which was the starting point of the "homogeneous deformation" stage. The powder compacts were sintered at $550~630^{\circ}C$ after burn-off process at $400^{\circ}C$. Swelling phenomenon caused by transient liquid phase sintering was observed below $590^{\circ}C$ of sintering temperature. At $610^{\circ}C$, sintering density was increased by effect of remained liquid phase. Further densification was not observed above $610^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it was determined that the optimum sintering temperature of AMB2712 powder was $610^{\circ}C$.}C$.
Change of sintering shrinkage in alumina-based multilayer ceramics was observed in various lamination condi-tions and binder burnout (BBO) temperatures. It was found that the linear shrinkages in X and Y directions were nearly the same with the BBO temperatures but a large shrinkage difference in Z direction was observed. However this phenomenon was diminished when BBO temperature was increased. A linear relationship between the laminated density and the sintering shrinkage was found and the slope was independant on the BBO temperature but dependant on the shrinkage direction.
The predominant sintering mechanisms of low firing temperature ceramic substrate which consists of borosilicate glass containing alumina as a filler are the rearrangement of alumina particles and the viscous flow of glass powders. In this system, sintering condition depends on the volume ratio of alumina to glass and on the particle size. When the substrate contains about 35 vol% alumina filler and the average alumina particle size is 4 $\mu\textrm{m}$, the best firing condition is obtained at the temperature range of 900∼1000$^{\circ}C$. The extensive rearrangement behavior occurs at these conditions, and the optimum sintering condition is attained by smaller size of glass particles, too. The formation of cristobalite during sintering causes the difference of thermal expansion coefficient between the substrate and Si chip. This phenomenon degradates the capacity of Si chip. Therefore, the crystallization should be prevented. In the alumina filled borosilicate glass system, the crystallization does not occur. This effect may have some relation with aluminum ions in alumina. For aluminum ions diffuse into glass matrix during sintering, functiong as network former.
In a ceramic green body, some degree of nonuniformity in density always presents. These differences in green density will appear as nonuniform shrinkage after sintering takes place. For the complex ceramic bodies with various curves and angles, therefore, it is quite difficult to foresee the final dimensions precisely after sintering. This simulation study shows that, considering the sintering process as a thermal shrinkage phenomenon, the use of NASTRAN enables to predict the precise shape of a sintered body. Based on this result, 'the reverse engineering technique' has been developed that can unfold the exact dimensions of a green body to have the desired shape after sintering. This approach will provide a simple and useful tool for ceramic engineers to fabricate complicate bodies with tight dimensional tolerances.

The Principal deficiency of the existing notion about the sintering-mixtures consists in the fact that almost no attention is focused on the Phenomenon of alloy formation during sintering, its connection with dimensional changes of powder bodies, and no correct ideas on the driving force for the sintering process in the stage of establishing chemical equilibrium in a system are available as well. Another disadvantage of the classical sintering theory is an erroneous conception on the dissolution mechanism of solid in liquid. The two-particle model widely used in the literature to describe the sintering phenomenon in solid state disregards the nature of the neighbouring surrounding particles, the presence of pores between them, and the rise of so called arch effect. In this presentation, new basic scientific principles of the driving forces for the sintering process of a two-component powder body, of a diffusion mechanism of the interaction between solid and liquid phases, of stresses and deformation arising in the diffusion zone have been developed. The major driving force for sintering the mixture from components capable of forming solid solutions and intermetallic compounds is attributed to the alloy formation rather than the reduction of the free surface area until the chemical equilibrium is achieved in a system. The lecture considers a multiparticle model of the mixed powder-body and the nature of its volume changes during solid-state and liquid-phase sintering. It explains the discovered S-and V-type concentration dependencies of the change in the compact volume during solid-state sintering. It is supposed in the literature that the dissolution of solid in liquid is realised due to the removal of atoms from the surface of the solid phase into the melt and then their diffusicn transfer from the solid-liquid interface into the bulk of liquid. It has been shown in our experimental studies that the mechanism of the interaction between two components, one of them being liquid, consist in diffusion of the solvent atoms from the liquid into the solid phase until the concentration of solid solutions or an intermetallic compound in the surface layer enables them to pass into the liquid by means of melting. The lecture discusses peculimities of liquid phase formation in systems with intermediate compounds and the role of the liquid phase in bringing about the exothermic effect. At the frist stage of liquid phase sintering the diffusion of atoms from the melt into the solid causes the powder body to grow. At the second stage the diminution of particles in size as a result of their dissolution in the liquid draws their centres closer to each other and makes the compact to shrink Analytical equations were derived to describe quantitatively the porosity and volume changes of compacts as a result of alloy formation during liquid phase sinteIing. Selection criteria for an additive, its concentration and the temperature regime of sintering to control the density the structure of sintered alloys are given.
A theoretical model describing the behavior of isolated pores during liquid phase sintering was developed and the experimental results obtained by the $80MgO-CaMgSiO_4$ specimens were given. Most of isolated pores once formed in the interior of specimen were not eliminated because the pressure of trapped non-diffusable gas in the pore like $N_2$ increases very rapidly with pore volume contraction. As sint-ering time increase it was observed that the number of pores decreases whereas the average size of pore increases. This phenomenon was interpreted in terms of the MgO growth during sintering which results in the coalescence of isolated pores. The increase of pore size resulting from pore coalescence was attributed to the main cause of the overfiring phenomena ; the higher sintering temperature or a long time sintering leads to a decrease in density.

In this paper, we have investigated the sintering of the organometallic silver electronic ink. We have changed the sintering temperature from 100 to $300^{\circ}C$ in the various atmospheres. The sheet resistance was abruptly changed at the temperature range between 115 and $120^{\circ}C$, due to the f of the crystalline silver resulting from the dissociation of Ag complex, which phenomenon has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction. The grain sizes of Ag films were about 50nm and 70nm at the sintering temperatures of 115 and $150^{\circ}C$, respectively.
Effects on the sintering of zircon by minor additives such as $Al_2O_3$, MgO and CaO were studied at $1450^{\circ}C$~$1550^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. Shrinkage, compressive strength, bulk density and apparent porosity of sintered specimens were measured in relation to content of minor additives and temperature. Mineral constitutions of the sintered specimens were idenified with X-ray diffractometer. And microstructures of the sintered specimens were observed by scanning electron microscope. The results obtained were as follow. 1) Effect ofthe minor additives such as Al2O3, MgO and CaO on the sintering of zircon was related to reaction between added oxide and silica by dissociation of zircon. 2) Zircon did not dissociate at $1550^{\circ}C$, but it did slightly on the specimen added by Al2O3 5 wt% at $1550^{\circ}C$. 3) Sintering of zircon was promoted by the addition of MgO, $(Al_2O_3+CaO)$ and (MgO+CaO), then, this phenomenon was due to the formation of liquid phase.
